The Chronological Ageing

Tick Says The Clock!

"So teach us to number our days. That we may gain a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12 KJV

Yes! Nobody will remind you that you'll be that age next year. Growing old is always responsible in setting this automatic alarm for you annually. Your chronological age is the amount of time that has passed from your birth to the given date. It's your age in terms of years, months, days, etc. This is the primary way people define their age. Chronological age is your actual age right from birth regardless of developmental or biological level. It is the measure of time a person has spent out of the womb interacting with the environment. Although, it is inseparably with biological growth and experience. As humans, we have two different types of growing old—Chronologically and biologically.

Chronological age is the number of years a person has been alive, while biological age refers to how old a person seems. Biological age, also referred to as physiological age, takes many lifestyle factors into consideration, including diet, exercise and sleeping habits, to name a few. Succinctly, chronological growth is to age in the number of your years. While biological growth is to age in accordance to your body development.

How we grow old is really beyond our control. It is primarily influenced by genetics, but research sheds light on how aging can be affected by external factors, including diet, exercise, stress, and smoking. Many gerontologists believe chronological age to be an incomplete figure because it doesn't take these external factors into consideration. When we say physical ageing, we relate or talk about the body and it development, whilst physiological ageing, refers to the body functions. Both physical and physiological characteristics are important in understanding development, effects, addictions and traits among humans and all other species. Nevertheless, we can still most times, predict someone's age with the physical appearance and not necessarily the physiological state. That's why it is very possible for a lady of 26 years of age to possess the breast of an 11 year old. Physically, she's mature, but physiologically, she's not. Because the hormones responsible for the growth and development of her breast are not been produced sufficiently. And that doesn't still mean can judge her chronological age to be that of an 11 year old female child. Also the same way you cannot use physiologically use people's height to accurately determine their chronological age.
