2 The Miracle in Green

It's been hours since Jeremiah and Direla left their daughter in the forest. She's been crying non stop, begging for something to make her feel better. Food, warmth, love, anything, just please, help this child.

It seemed like life had given up on this child. She would soon join so many other souls to heaven. She'll never be able to grow up nor take her first steps. She'll never say her first words or make her first friend in school. Hopefully, she'll be able to have a better life and get to do all these things. The baby waved her hands weakly as more minutes passed by, inching her closer to darkness. The light at the end of the tunnel seemed to far away to run back to. Her cries eventually drowned away and joined the cold wind. She was too hungry to have the energy to call out for someone to save her.

A better life was coming soon, but it would not be death's doing. Heaven had sent an angel in a small, green package.

There, as the legends told, a bright green glow flashed through the forest, circling branches and stopping to smell the flowers, occasionally stopping to get a drink. The green figure stopped as it eyed something on the ground. What was it? A thick log? No, something's coming out of the "log." Worms? No, it was too big to be worms. The small figure flew closer down to the ground. As it began to land, it's body glowed. It glowed until it grew larger. The glow finally disappeared and there appeared a green Indian Ringneck. The bird inched closer to the bigger figure. It was pretty tall but nothing it's wings can't fly up to. The bird flapped its wings and at the same time, jumped, almost knocking the car seat with its weight. Inside was a baby. The baby cried once more, feeling someone, or something there. The ringneck examined the baby. Surely, it couldn't leave her here.

The Indian Ringneck made its move. The glow from its body returned as it returned to it's original shape of a green hummingbird; the Benedictio fugae! The legends were true! The hummingbird inched closer until the baby and bird came face to face. The hummingbird slowly came closer to the baby until finally, they touched, beak to nose.

A blinding flash swallowed both beings in its light. Before, it seemed like there was no life other than insects but from all angles, animals came by to see this exceptional sight. Finches and sparrows perched across branches, having an exclusive view of the interaction. Rabbits stood on their hind legs, checking for a blind spot to see better.

The light shrank around down until nothing was left. The hummingbird flapped away from the car seat. The Benedictio fugae flew down and turned into a hawk, waiting. What happened? What did it do to her?

Seconds passed. Out emerged an energized arm. Compared to the weak arm from earlier, this baby was a completely different baby. She reached out and giggled. Something was tickling her face, something soft. The baby moved around in her car seat until she accidentally jumped out from her car seat, face first into the dirt. The other animals stepped back with fear naturally. The baby pushed herself up and sat up, examining the life around her. What are these things? She looked in front of her at the hawk. Both stared. It's that bird who poked her nose! She yelled out in happiness as she reached out for the bird. The hawk walked close. The baby patted it's beak, fascinated. They seemed to bond immediately.

Movement behind her caused everyone to look back. Feathers? Wings! The baby looked behind her as she felt something soft rub her almost bare back. The wings were on of a macaw's in human-size. The wings flapped as they carried the baby up little by little from the ground. The hawk watched and followed, helping her as her guide. They made up their mind; they wanted to help this baby and make it part of their flock.

The rest of the animals on the ground watched. The birds joined in and circled the baby, congratulating her and accepting her into the avian family. The baby laughed in excitement. This was fun...

The hawk flew behind her and pushed her forward from where they came from. The baby enjoyed the air as she left her car seat, a reminder of her past that she will hope will stay behind her. Onwards to a new life.
