3 Chapter 3: Active and passive magic

"Magic is a word describing a powerful force used to fight monsters as well as humans. Its power exceeds any martial art. Magic is being researched since countless days ago. Magic is an essential for any adventurer. Any of you who want to become an adventurer have to learn magic at least to the D-Rank. There are four types of magic: Active magic, passive magic, enchanting magic, and healing magic.

I recommend you to chose only one of those, eventually two, as learning magic isn't an easy process. We will now go to the practice room and try out what magic suits us. Keep in mind that any magic can be learned, however learning the one/ones that suit you is a lot easier and takes less time. For example the magic that suits me is active magic." - Teacher explained.

That's when the teacher ordered everyone to follow him. They walked downstairs and went though the hallway leading to a massive pair of doors. As he opened the doors, students peeked inside and saw a massive hall looking like a gym, except it was way larger. There was a shooting range, training dummies, obstacle courses, and many more. It was both Kenso's and the whole class's first time entering the practice room.

The teacher stood next to the shooting range and said:

"So here we are. That's where you will be practicing your magic abilities. Does anyone know the magic that suits you?" - He asked, but no one said a thing.

"No? That's fine. We are now going to be testing that. Let's begin the practice lesson number one: Finding the suitable magic! Miss Aria, could you go first? - Teacher gently asked Aria.

"Yes, sir!" - She answered.

"To check our suitable magic, we simply have to try casting spells of the four types of magic. Let's say that Aria tries to cast Lightning Bolt and she succeds at the first time. It means that active magic suits her. If the spell wasn't casted properly, but somehow triggered, it means that active magic would suit Aria, but not as good as it would suit her if the spell was casted properly. Well then, could you start off with Lightning Bolt, Aria?"

Aria focused on the target. She made her hands face the targets. As she built up the mana in her hands, a purple orb of Lightning started growing infront of her hands. She was about to cast the spell by holding it with her right hand and facing it at the target, but as soon as she let the orb go off her left hand, the orb faded away.

Teacher looked at the worried Aria and explained - "The spell wasn't triggered, you were able to concentrate the mana in a stable orb, which means you have the potential to become a great healer."

"I see, so the active magic doesn't suit me." - Aria was relieved, but worried at the same time.

"Who is the next one to try casting active magic?" - Teacher asked with a smile.

"I'll try." - Ezark answered.

Ezark started off the same way Aria did. He concentrated mana in order to create a lightning orb and managed to hold it in his right hand. He faced the orb towards the target and shot a Lightning Bolt. The moment he shot, the orb caused a little lightning explosion.

The teacher was amazed by Ezark's skills. "Amazing, Mr. Ezark! Your active magic skills are perfect! The explosion means the Lightning Bolt was powered up by your own mana! You are the first student to ever control active magic at this level! Unbelievable!"

Ezark blushed.

"So the next one is... Come here, Mr. Kenso! Now it's your turn." - Teacher stated.

Kenso walked on the pedestal, faced his sight at the targets, took his right hand up, and... Asked - "How do i do this?"

Everyone looked at him with a dissapointed expression.

"Dear Kenso." - Teacher started explaining.

"Have you ever used magic?"

"No, i didn't." - Kenso answered calmly.

"Is that thing attached to your belt a sheath for a sword? And it has a shape of a katana... Are you willing to become a swordsman? Are you aware that swordsmanship is an outdated martial art exceeded by many other ones?

Eh, why do i even bother asking, im sure you know this, but you probably have your reasons. Anyway, if you are a swordsman you should focus on the passive magic and the enchanting magic. Since you can't control active magic, you won't be able to control healing magic neither, so we should only check the remaining two. Start off with passive magic. Close your eyes and imagine that your body turns into lightning. Then focus on turning your imagination into reality." - Teacher explained to Kenso.

"Like... This?" - Kenso asked as he closed his eyes and the area around him started electrifying. As he opened his eyes, the area he electrified started transfering the electricity into Kenso's body. A split second after the process started it got to an end. Lightning sparks started to ocassionaly travel around Kenso's body.

Teacher said - "I'm... Impressed." - with a shocked facial expression.
