The Scarlet Fields

Author's POV

As she accepts her death, she was surprised when she woke up in a familiar place. She groans slightly as she sat up on the bed, her eyes quickly lands on a familiar figure beside her.

"Mother?" her eyes widened.

The woman beside her wakes up and smiles warmly towards her, she pulls Helena tightly to her chest. "Helena, don't be stubborn you still have a fever."

"i-is it really you mother?" she starts to cry. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry i couldn't protect you." she hugs her mother even tighter.

"What do you mean? how could a small child like you protect us?" she giggles towards her daughter, assuring her to stop crying.

But her cries didn't stop, Helena felt so much pain and relief being with her mother that all she wanted right now was to embrace her. "I did my best Mother, even though it wasn't good enough."

"Seriously." Her mother sits up. "Helena, i would never get angry with you even if you lost to Ophelia."

Then it hit her. "What? lost to what?"

Suddenly the door swings open and her two brothers came into view. "Sis, don't be sad. You didn't lose to that girl! your body was too weak to even join in that competition." Charles says, my Older Brother.

"yeah, you have much more magical powers than that girl anyway." Arthur agrees.

She suddenly realized that there was something wrong at how her brothers looked and how they talked about the Winter competition that took place 10 years ago, that she decided to get down on the bed and hurried towards a mirror.

"I.. traveled back in time?" Helena says confused as she looked to her younger self. "No way!" after becoming known as a mage in the Goharith tower, she changed her appearance by magic to conceal her background and protect her family.

But her family was still killed anyway. She frowns as she remembers the events .

"Uh, sis you okay?" Arthur asks worriedly.

"Yeah." she replies.

For Helena, the thought of going back in time was a miracle, as if the heavens is on her side. Even though she hasn't completely comprehended what was happening, but she did know that someone helped her on her last moments, someone lent mana and activated a magic time circle for her.

"i don't know who you are, but I'm plenty thankful." she whispers.

She turns back and looks at her mother and brother, she smiles and embraces them. "I love you guys!"

Her mother and brothers looks at her weirdly.

"I think the fever did something to her brain." Charles says in a suspicious tone.

She never felt as happy as she was right now, having her family in her arms made her happy so much that she promised herself that she would spend more time with them as she didn't back then.

"Where's papa?"

"He's in Tower." Her mother smiles at her.

"i want to see papa!" she demands.

Her mother sighs and pats her on the head. "Papa is currently attending the 2nd celebration for the birth of the 3rd prince. He can't entertain you if you go there since he would be managing the guest as the head of the tower."

"That's right now?!" Helena unbelievably exclaimed. She remembered that it was on that day where the emperor rose suspicion towards our family, it was the assassination of the 3rd prince.

"Instead of worrying about the celebration, you should practice more on your mana control." her mother says standing up and dragging the two boys with her. "i don't want you to get hurt by your own mana ok?" she smiles and leaves.

she nodded in return.

she sat on the bed and looked towards the clock beside her. "The assassination would take place tonight, i have to get father to leave." she sighs

She closes her eyes and tried to analyze her mana, she was then relieved that her mana was no longer bound by some artifact and her body was in full condition as the great ArchMage she was before. Unfortunately, she also realized that exposing her huge amount of mana to others would make her too suspicious since she was only just about 12 years old, so she decided to conceal 3/4 of her powers.

"Now let's see.. what happened back then."

The only people in her family that has mana would be Helena and her father. Her mother was an ordinary duchess and her brothers took the path of knighthood. Before time went back, Helena lived her whole life studying and discovering inheritances to become more powerful that's why she became the most powerful Archmage in the history of the Goharith tower, and the biggest enemy of the Abuneian Empire.

At age 15, she was able to enter the tower with no difficulty. She was the youngest mage in history that could enter the tower, so alot of of people envied her, especially her seniors. She was arrogant enough as she hold the youngest title of an renowned mage in the tower. As she grew stronger, her bond with her family slowly disappeared, she focused more on her goals to achieve something greater. Little did she know, that her family was executed by the emperor for treason. Yet even though she knew at some point, she still chose the power she holds and turned a blind eye to it. Unfortunately, she could never have expected that Ophelia would know of her background, thus using her as a bait to kill the crown princess.

Helena's eyes grew darker as she remembered those events. "Ophelia."

Helena held onto that hatred before using spatial magic to transport to the nearest area outside the protective barrier of the palace.

As she hid behind the tree, she saw a carriage going inside the palace so she quickly transports on top of it, her body fitting in since she had a small body

She goes down when she no longer senses someone nearby, immediately using magic to transform her nightgown into a ballgown afterwards.

She stopped, realizing that she was standing on the very place where she was killed.

The Scarlet Fields.

And just to her luck, the holy sword grazes on her neck as the man who stood behind her says. "Who are you?"
