16 To Find Something (2)

(A/N: About why Kathyln trusts Alex so much is because it was obvious. Why do you think she asked Alex about his master? Because she knew who Alex was, she knew that an S-Rank Mage disciple won't do her any harm

Chapter is a bit earlier than usual, it was because tomorrow I'll be busy so I decide to publish this chapter now)

Alexender's POV:

How has it come to this? To think that this simple journey to find something has led to this. But it was my own fault, and I paid the heavy price for it.

My left eye is now blind. I can't see anymore. I can feel that it will take time for me to adjust to only having half of my vision... which isn't the best thing that has happened.

"Damn it, how will my parents react to this." I frowned as I grumbled.

"A-Alex..." Kathy called me out.

"What is it?" I turned my face to her.

She looked down when I stared at her... Right, my scar burn must be ugly. Not that I care about my pretty face but my parents will say otherwise.

"I am sorry..." Kathy suddenly apologized.

"What's for?" I asked, feeling confused.

"It's my fault... I shouldn't bring us here and if only I keep my mouth shut about the Legend, we wouldn't be here right now." Tears ran through her eyes.

She is feeling guilty? Suddenly, tears escape from her eyes. The moment I see her cry, it's frustrating... because it was not true.

I hold Kathy's hand and wiped the tear from her cute face, I let out a low sigh.

"It's not your fault... I'm the one who was so careless that I paid a heavy price. Besides, I was the one who took the initiative that we should go out. Technically, I'm at fault here that you witness my ugly scar." I chuckled sadly as I said the last part.

Kathy suddenly shouted, "That's not true! Even with that scar, you still look amazing!"

I was silent for a moment. I wonder if I really have become a pessimist. Maybe she is the one who judges a person not by their appearance but by their heart. I felt my heart skip a beat.

What the hell just happened? Did I get embarrassed by a little girl? A former adult... Oh, this is... forget it.

"Right, yeah... maybe, right..." I awkwardly scratched my cheek. Not the left side since it's hurt.

"Let me patch your left side." She grabbed my robe and ripped it apart to make a bandage. She... have some strength. Well, pretty scary for a little girl.

"Water, please." She held out the cloth that she ripped, and I gladly poured some water onto the cloth.

"Don't move." She gently patched my left side, which covered my left eye and the burn scar.

One would say that she is would make a great housewife which I can agree with but she is a princess. Princess being a housewife is a really funny thought for me.

"Thanks..." I muttered.

I thought I was supposed to be the mature one, but I guess... there is time I don't need to be one and it felt nice.

* * *

We continued our journey to find a device or portal that would bring us back to the surface. But not without a challenge that seemingly looked like a trial for me.

[Burst Flame]

I do really like naming my moves with 'Burst', huh? Well, it was simple and effective. Bursting hot flames from the hand took a lot of mana, but it was a very effective move against these wood golems.

They are weaker and smaller in comparison with Stone Golems, but their numbers are what bother me. Thankfully, they are wood, and I don't need to stab their core all the time since the wood will burn.

They do regenerate, but with a fire burning them? They'll die either way and turn to ashes.

Being a quadra-elemental augmenter is nice. At the very least, if they have a weakness to elementals, you could easily counter them.

I deflected the wood spear that was shot from the golem's hand. They are quite persistent since they didn't die quickly, but they don't have a sense of pain so don't blame them.

Enveloping my body in mana, I sprang from my spot and dodged all the wood spears that were targeting me. I closed my eyes.

[Calm Breathing]

I let out a calm breath. When your vision isn't working, then you should be using your instinct and senses. Be calm or you will lose focus on your senses. Don't be rash or panicked.

Feel the air, vibration, and sound.

That is what master always said, but it wasn't easy.

I opened my eye (since my left eye... is blind... no plural, only singular... well that was surprisingly depressing to talk about). I widen my eyes and redirect the wooden spear upward.

"Damn it, how did master do it easily? She could fight me with closed eyes... she's a monster." I muttered to myself.

I tried to imitate my master but it wasn't easy, her moves are unpredictable... As if she has been fighting mages for a long time. Always mysterious my master is but that's her charm, I guess.

The wood golem charged and I clicked my tongue. I darted forward from my spot and focused mana to envelop my dagger to make sure it won't break.

3rd POV:

Alex's green eye glowed as he flashed and dodged all the wooden spears, the wooden golem's reaction is too slow.

Alex suddenly ran to a huge rock that is shielding him. The wooden golem stayed vigilant as the golem prepared to shoot Alex down.

But a few seconds later, there a no sign of Alex going out of his cover. The golem took a step but it was all it took before it came to destruction.

"Behind you." A whisper can be heard.

A shadow with an eye glowing appeared behind the golem.

Not even a second later, the sound of a glass being stabbed can be heard echoing throughout the area.

. . .

Alex wiped his sweats as he sat on the ground. Kathyln approached Alex. She had been hiding the whole time. She isn't a mage yet, but she wants to be useful in the situation they are in.

"Alex, you are okay?" Kathyln asked.

"Yeah, but my mana reserve may be running low." Alex grimly said, he knew that he has been fighting for an hour.

He tried to not depend on his magic continuously if it wasn't serious, but it was hard to beat the golems with only physical strength. His child's body has been his worst enemy, and he knew that sooner or later, his child's body would break if he kept up with this style.

"Shall we find a resting spot?" Kathyln suggested.

"Yeah, good idea." Alex nodded.

. . .

Finding a safe place to rest was difficult, as all of the golems awoke from their slumber. It was possibly because of Alex and Kathy's presence that all of the security defenses were activated.

They finally found a safe-looking area to rest, and they sat on the floor side by side.

"How long have we been here?" Alex asked.

"...3 or 4 hours."

"Haa... That's long? This place is big that I don't remember how long have we been stuck here." Alex let out a low sigh.

As Alex and Kathy stared at the roof, they couldn't help but marvel at this technology. The stars look like are only the light source to light the area, but they are pretty as a night sky.

From Alex's memory, there are three areas: First is the entrance area. It was just a hallway to the main area, and statues could be seen when you passed the entrance area.

The main area is a ruined place where golems are lurking everywhere. The golems appeared to be guardians of some sort of treasure, and it was clear that they were guarding something precious. If that's not the case, why did they attack Alex and Kathy?

Then the safe area or safe zone There are no golems or anything that seems to be dangerous lurking in the safe area. It was a good place to rest as the stars in the sky seemingly erase tension.

Kathyln's POV:

Kathyln has some interest in Alex; there is something intriguing about him. A pretty boy who has a powerful teacher, not anyone could be S-Rank mage's disciple, but a boy who is not a noble appeared to be S-Rank mage's disciple.

The carefree Alex made Kathyln more and more intrigued. She was bored with noble kids. She wanted someone that wasn't too impolite or overly polite. A true friend was what she wanted.

She was a bit hesitant at first, and accepting the offer was a bit hard. She wants to explore the outside world, but her status as a princess always makes her isolated from the outside world... She is a stoic princess on the outside, but on the inside, she is just a normal girl who is curious about many things.

After they got trapped in the tomb, she could only watch from the sideline. She couldn't do anything but... she was amazed as she watched Alex's fight.

A kid the same age as her can defeat a golem... It was an envious sight to see, but she also realized that being strong doesn't mean you are invincible.

. . .

Alex suddenly fell asleep on Kathyln's shoulder. He was exhausted and could no longer fight. His mana reserve was already low, and forcing himself to continue would be suicide.

Kathyln moved Alex's head to her lap to make him sleep better. Kathyln found out that Alex's hair was soft and silky.

She caressed his hair. She was surprised at how soft his hair was and that it was quite addicting. Kathyln unconsciously smiled. She was a bit glad that she could be useful to Alex. She let Alex rest as she continued caressing Alex's hair.

"I want to know more about you." she whispered.
