2 The Magic Academy

A large explosion went off as the shockwaves rumbled the academy.

"Magical Power calculated: 190,000! Next contender!"

A group of students was all lined up outside of Magic Academy, taking the most important trials for them to find their rankings in the academy. The rankings were simple: Blue was the Novice rank, Red was the Standard rank, Black was the Elite Rank, and Gold was the Master Rank.

"Kyto is up on the list, please step forward to calculate your magical power."

The Headteacher Takami was in charge of calculating and determining one's magical power. Once she called Kyto up to the front, he hesitated at first but still made his way forward.

"Alright, now that you're up, use your full power on the Dummy in front of you. Don't worry about destroying anything, they have a magical barrier erected around the area just in case."

Kyto looked toward Takami and blinked a few times in confusion.

"But that's for the outside... what about the students behind me?"

Takami tapped her Pen onto the notepad she held in the other hand, being impatient with this young boy.

"If they cannot protect themselves or are stupid enough to stand close range to your attacks, then it's their fault for joining Magic Academy. Even the weakest of Mages can use a magical barrier. Are you some sort of pacifist?"

Kyto sighed to himself and would hold up his hand, mana gathering in the middle of his palm whilst forming a magical circle.

"I'm no pacifist, my power is just... different from the others."

He mumbled underneath his voice as the magical circle started to grow in size, finally casting his spell—

"Fire Magic: Annihilation Inferno!"

Coming from the magical circle was a torrent of flames that covered the dummy whole, incinerating even the space around it while the magical barrier was even pierced through, leaving his flames to scatter across the fields outside of the magic academy, turning trees and anything in its way into ash.

"...!!!"

Takami was taken aback by this, some of her hair even lit up in flames which she had to pat out with her palm.

The students were all shocked to see such a display, some even stepping back toward the exit.

"M-Maybe I'll do the trials another time! I'm not ready for this!"

Some random student yelled out loud, making his way to the exit whilst several dozen followed him.

"Looks like we have some... powerful students this year..."

Takami cleared her throat soon after and had her eyes light up in Crystal Blue.

"Let's see... by analyzing the control of the magic and area of effect, I can give a rough estimate of, 500,670 magical power."

The teacher's eyes would now return back to normal.

('That's... equal to one of the Black Ranked teachers who's been here for decades. That's incredible.')

Takami rubbed underneath her chin in thought, internally saying these things to herself.

('His power is already equal to that of a Black rank. He needs to receive special attention immediately.')

Takami risen her arm into the air.

"Kyto will be submitted into the Black Rank division of mages!"

The other students who stayed in the trials all began to clap in sync, praising Kyto for his strength.

"Incredible, we had a Black Rank mage among the group the entire time."

One of the students spoke to her friend next to her, both of them giggling at each other.

"I-I'm submitted into the Black Mages?"

Kyto questioned the teacher.

"Yes. I'm certain that your magical power is enough to triumph over everyone here combined. You are indeed powerful enough to be a Black Mage!"

Takami smiled at the new Black mage, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"Listen closely, as a Black Mage, your privileges in the academy is most generous. You will now serve magic academy as one of the most powerful mages, and your name will even be written on the Leaderboards of highest magical power."

Kyto smiled, rubbing the back of his head.

"I'm an outsider from this country, most of the people in my hometown are even stronger than me... so I didn't really expect this-"

Takami cluelessly blinked at his words.

"Even stronger than you? I see, your clan must be a strong one, no?"

Kyto tilted his head to the side.

"Well, I'm a Cyrodel from Desmoybia."

The students all looked in disbelief at his words.

"Is it true... is he really a Cyrodel? But that's impossible right...?"

Some random brunette began whispering to the one beside her.

"Yeah, that's impossible, what would a Cyrodel be doing way out here? And for what reason?"

Kyto turned around hearing their whispering loud and clear.

"No, I'm telling the truth."

He responded back to their comments even though they were quiet as a church mouse.

"How did he hear us...?"

Another student mumbled.

"He must really be that of a Cyrodel. He has super enhanced hearing just like them..."

The Brunette said.

"...Ummm excuse me, what exactly is... a Cyrodel?"

Some short girl who wasn't seen in the crowd risen her hand up for an answer. She was so... small, standing at a height of 4'11, you wouldn't believe it until you see it.

"Oh my, you don't know what a Cyrodel is? Were you born yesterday?"

Some redhead mocked the small girl in the middle of the crowd.

"A Cyrodel, also translating to Demi-Gods in Ancient Tongue..."

Someone with the appearance of a petite young girl of short height, pale skin, and long, Snow-white colored hair tied into two short frontal braids had spoken.

Her eyes almost looked sleepy-like. Her outfit consisted of a magician's hat and robe on her.

"Cyrodel's are Demi-Gods; the combination of a human and a God makes a Demi-God, also known as Cyrodel's. Once gods migrated here into Midgard, they began mating with humans and creating Cyrodels, but it's forbidden now, so the Cyrodel population is slowly decreasing."

The mysterious mage had given more information to the class than even their parents.

"...You really did your research..."

Takami replied back to the unknown mage.

"I have just been around the world studying for a long time, Miss Takami."

The Mage smiled gently.

"Oh okay I see now, so Kyto is a Cyrodel. Doesn't that mean he'll be executed...?"

The short and clueless girl spoke again, but this time bringing up a serious topic.

"...I mean she has a point."

The brunette mumbled.

"We will not talk about that right now! At the moment we're determining everyone's magical power! Let's not get off topic and follow in my lead!"

Takami risen her arm out to the class, pointing to the next contender.

"Excuse me, what is your name?"

Approaching the mysterious Mage was the short girl who was petite, and invisible to the crowd.

"My name...?"

The unknown mage looked down at this girl. The mage herself was short, but this girl was shorter than her.

"Yes, your name!?"

"My name is... Grimhild Yorgana."

The mage finally gave her name, whilst her lazy look remained plastered on her face.

"Ooohhh that's a cool name~! Mine is Elizabeth, nice to meet you!"

The short female expressed her excitement towards Grimhild.

"Likewise."

Grimhild gave a one-word reply, focusing back on the trial in front of her. As of now, they were in the back of the line, unseen by the other students.

"~Say, Grimhild. You said you've been studying stuff for a long time right? Right right, right~?"

Grimhild glanced at Elizabeth whose hyperactive tone of voice drew attention to their conversation.

"Yes."

Grimhild responded in another one-word reply. Elizabeth had an idea in the back of her head she wanted to let out, but her excitement seemed to be rushing her body fast enough to the point she lost track of thought.

"Crap I forgot what I was gonna say!!!"

Elizabeth was pacing about while slapping her head a few times.

"Okay, I remember now! Grimhild, I want you to teach me about the Cyrodel's more! You've given such an amazing speech and more information than what all of these students know! I would be happy if you taught me more!"

"...Why are you asking me when you can ask the Cyrodel themself...?"

Grimhild replied, her voice mellow.

"Uuuuu. You're right, I didn't think of that. Aren't Cyrodel's kinda violent though?"

"That's racist."

Elizabeth widened her eyes, waving her hands back n' forth.

"Wait no no no! I didn't mean it like that!!!"

"...Yes you did?"

"No seriously! I didn't mean it like that!"

Elizabeth's hyperactive attitude made her voice louder than sound magic, she was a walking embodiment of attention.

"What's going on over here...?"

Kyto was suddenly behind Elizabeth.

"WAAAAAAAHHHHH!!! DON'T KILL ME! DON'T KILL ME! I'M SORRY CYRODEL SIRRR!!!"

Elizabeth nearly jumped out of her skin, hiding behind Grimhild.

"W-What...?"

Kyto was taken back by the sudden action—

"...Ignore her, she thinks Cyrodel's are a violent race, and she's scared of you."

Kyto sighed, placing his hands on his hips.

"This is why I didn't exactly want to tell anyone I was a Cyrodel. I knew this type of treatment would come to me sooner or later."

Elizabeth still hiding behind Grimhild would clear her throat, standing back up.

"I-I apologize Kyto! My parents just told me many stories on the Demi-Gods... s-so I was worried for my safety."

Grimhild staring ahead at the trial seemed to be ignoring their conversation now.

"Next Contender, Grimhild Yorgana!"

Now it was time for the mage to go up. She made her way past the students and walked to the side of the crowd, coming up to the front in order to test her magical power.

"I'm certain you know what must be done, Ms Yorgana?"

"Yes, I know of the rules. Go full power and fire. The end."

Takami scratched her cheek.

"I-I guess if you put it that way, it makes things sound so silly. Ahahaha!"

Grimhild grinned, it was small but nonetheless, it was a grin.

"I have done many difficult tests in my life, this is nothing more than a warmup."

The mage would hold up her staff, pointing it at the dummy.

"To limit the area of effect, I'll be condensing my magic, is that fine?"

Takami would look in shock.

"You are able to condense your magic...? I-If that's the case then go ahead."

Condensing one's magic takes Masterful levels of control that only Master ranks can do. Once someone's magic is condensed, it becomes more denser and concise, thus amplifying its effects over Ten Times.

"Water Magic: Wave of Poseidon."

The wind began to pick up astronomically. A large magical circle appeared underneath the dummy before an outline surrounded it, resembling that of a bubble, which slowly started to be filled with water.

"Incredible, such masterful control of magic! This is unreal!"

One of the students shouted in awe.

"The Wave of Poseidon is a High-level magical spell that traps the target in a condensed bubble of water and increases the velocity of the wind around it. Once they're trapped, the wind picks the bubble up and spins the target around in a spiral until the target is forced to lose their sense of direction and drown simultaneously."

The Dummy was shown doing the same thing that Grimhild said; picked up by the winds and forced to spin around in a spiral in the sky, however, it only lasted a second as dummies were inanimate objects and couldn't necessarily lose their sense of direction nor drown.

Takami after witnessing this had her hair blown back. The students behind her were even in disbelief...

"...Can you begin the calculation now?"

Grimhild said out loud.

"R-Right."

Takami's eyes lit up in crystal blue once more.

"B-By masterful control of magic and performing condensed magic, Ms Yorgana's magical power is well over.... 15,670,800."

"...I see."

Grimhild responded.

"That's not right... how is she that powerful? Isn't that above the head Academy's leader's magical power level?"
