Chatper:6

Flying high above the spine towards Carvahall, I contemplated my next moves. Roran was a man of honor, a noble soul to whom the idea of unearned benefits might prove disagreeable. So, I decided to use my Sharingan on him, gently manipulating his perception to believe that he earned whatever aid I offered. A necessary deception, one I hoped wouldn't backfire.

Our flight had been swift, and we arrived earlier than expected. From the snippets of conversation drifting up from the village below, I deduced that Roran had just secured a job at the mill. This gave me some time to strategize.

Sky, my faithful dragon companion, gracefully descended towards a secluded spot in the spine. "Remember, we must remain unseen by Saphira," I gently reminded her.

"Grrrr, I'm not a hatchling. I know better than that," she retorted.

"Oh really?" I teased, "Who was it then that got stuck in that cave over a deer?"

She huffed indignantly, "That deer should have known its place and just let me eat it."

I sighed, "Right," realizing once again that Sky had an uncanny knack for selective hearing.

I maneuvered through the village stealthily, implanting memories in the villagers' minds. They now remembered Sloan, the local butcher, betraying Roran because he didn't want his daughter to marry him. With this subtle manipulation done, I retreated, only to find an unexpected visitor - Saphira.

"Sky! What on earth..." But before I could finish, she turned towards me, her large eyes looking surprisingly puppy-like. My anger evaporated like morning dew under the sun. How did she manage that?

Saphira broke the silence, "You're real. You both are. I'm not dreaming. There are others like me out there. I'M NOT ALONE ANYMORE."

So that's where Sky got the idea for those irresistible eyes. I sighed, "No, you're not alone, Saphira. But you must promise not to tell your rider about us yet. It's too dangerous to let the world know about two more dragons, especially since you're still very young and Sky's only three years old."

She seemed to understand, "You promise you'll show yourself to my rider?"

"Yes, in a couple of months, we will. For now, we're searching for an artifact rumored to be somewhere in the Spine," I reassured her.

"Very well, but if you haven't come in six months, I will tell my rider about you," she warned us.

"That's fair," I replied, "See you soon, Saphira." And with that, we took to the skies again.

Our next step was to ensure Roran's journey to the Varden would be easier. So, we waited until Roran and the miller made camp for the night. Under the cover of darkness, I cast a spell on Roran while also using my Sharingan to ensure that when the news of his father's death reached him, he would remember a noble's generosity, making his path to the Varden less burdensome.

After that, Sky and I headed towards Gil'ead to lay low until Eragon made his move.

"OPEN STATUS," I commanded, and my system stats were displayed:
