1 The Arrangement

Luna was the princess of Ava. Her father, King Philly ll of Ava, always said he wanted a son to hand his kingdom to. But when his wife, Queen Carolin of Ava was assassinated his dream of a little boy was demolished. Luna was an only child and heir to the throne and King Philly refused to marry again.

Even though Princess Luna was heir to the throne the law forbade her to rule without a king. So she had to marry. But Luna was never interested in romance. She rather have spent her time to herself and whatever freedom the kingdom walls allowed her.

On Luna's sixteenth birthday her father called her to his private study.

"Luna! My darling, how are you this most wonderful evening?" said the King.

"Father. You seem quite cheerful. What news has done this to you?" Princess Luna asks.

"As you know," he starts. "I am getting old. Someone must soon take the throne. You are the only heir, but you are a woman. You can't run a country without a king-"

"Says who?" she interrupts. He ignores her and continues.

"This means you have to marry. All of your body guards say you don't have love. Is that true? Is there a problem I don't know of?"

"I beg your pardon?" she explaims. "Are you saying I'm heartless?"

"No. I'm simply asking if you are in love or capable of learning to love."

"I'm not in love with anyone, but I'm sure that one day I will be."

"Tomorrow is your sixteenth birthday celebration. I have invited the royals of the Hologast kingdom." King Philly replies. "The King and Queen of Hologast signed a contract with me when your mother died. The arrangement we made was for you to marry their son Prince Adem so our countries can be united together. As of today you are engaged to him. You are not required to marry him until either I die or five years have passed. Whichever may come first. During that time you are allowed to try and find love and marry the love you find. You do not need to be devoted to him until you have tied the knot. But remember we are doing this for our people."
