1 A Void Mage

KABOOM!

The ground shook after a strange explosion. I recollected myself and found out that I have been knocked out for a few hours after doing an experiment. "Tch! To think that it's still a failure. Curse this godforsaken body! Why in the world did I have to be reincarnated in such a useless body when there are hundreds of kids my age around the world?!"

I cursed at myself. This is just an ordinary day in my life. After I reincarnated into this world, a world where most of the people on Earth would want to be brought here after their deaths, I realized something just a few days after seeing the world for myself.

It is the ultimate heaven! I was baffled by what I have seen, people flying in the sky, playing with fire with their bare hands, people shooting lightning bolts in the sky. I was certain, that this world is filled and crawling with mages, a magical world.

The shock left me speechless for a few days, my heart throbbed so hard that I thought I was getting a stroke that would probably be ridiculous for a kid my age, but I was overwhelmed.

Every kid around ten years of age needs to undergo a test that would determine their magic's nature. Fire, wind, water, and land(earth). These are the basic natures of magic that most common people would have.

There are also rare ones which are a combination of either two or three natures. And the rarest and only appears once in every thousand years, are natures that far exceed the rest.

Common nature wielders are called Primal Mages. Mages that have two or more natures are called Prime Mages. Lastly, the rarest ones that only appear only in a thousand years are called, Primordial Mages.

You must be wondering which group I belong to. Don't ponder about it too much. I don't belong to any of that.  Every now and then, there are ill-fated kids like me throughout the years. I have no nature, they call our kinds, Void Mages. The name is sick, but that's just a front. In reality, we are not even considered mages. We are seen as failures.

I ponder over what went wrong in my life. I love magic more than anything on Earth to the point that I could not live through a day without watching anything that involves magic. Be it cartoons, movies, or anime. I'll watch them excitedly like I am seeing them for the first time.

"Ah, shit. This really gets on my nerves." I stood up and pat the dirt on my clothes.

I'm already 14 years old and the test I had 4 years ago still left a deep wound in my heart. "Void mage, what in the world does that even amount to when I can't even perform a basic spell properly!" out of frustration, I kicked the stone lying on the ground and end up injuring myself.

CRACK!

"What the hell-?!" I am already frustrated as it is, and it seems like bad luck will haunt me for the rest of my life. It turns out that the stone was a part of an even larger rock or a boulder. Kicking it hoping to send my frustrations flying only made my mood worse.

"This is just ridiculous." I thought to myself as I got up. I turned in the direction of our house and saw a silhouette of my mother waving at me, telling me to come home.

If it was me in the past, I would have accepted the results easily. It is already a great deal for me to be reincarnated in such a magical world, but my parents in this world granted me everything. They gave me everything I need without asking for anything in return.

After we heard the results, I was devastated and I turned to them and saw the smiles on their faces as if they are relieved that I turned out to be a Void Mage. It turns out that the true owner of my body has had an accident that left him unconscious for a long time.

What they want is evident, they don't want me to be in danger like what every mage will be facing later in life, but even so, they still supported me when I said that I will take the test. I could not even begin to wonder how painful it must have been for them. One thing is certain, they love me no matter what. And not giving up on being a mage is the best response I can offer.

"Look at your clothes. You're all dirty again. William, dear. Do you really want to be a mage that badly even if it hurts you every time?" She asked as she hover her hand above my head, and my injuries disappeared.

My mother is a healer, she is a Primal Mage with the nature of water. Her healing spell is the most common of all the spells for water natures, it's a no-brainer spell.

"I can't just give up that easily after coming this far." My mother gently pats my head, I can feel her comforting gaze even without looking. She is gentle, the most gentle person I have ever met in my entire life. The people on earth can be considered barbarians in her presence. "Very well, then. If that is what you want then I will not stop you. But before you become a mage, you need to at least have – a healthy  body."

"-a healthy body. I know, Mom." I went straight to the bathroom to wash up after all the dirt I got showered with earlier.

"Still hasn't changed his mind, huh?" Alfred Pierce, William's father asked Agatha, his wife. "That's normal. He took it after you, what were you expecting?" she said as a joke. Alfred chuckles after hearing her reply. "That's just how a man should be. A good sword is not forged within a day." He retorted as William cuts in their conversation. "Dad, do we still have that? You know, that thing?"

His father's eyes immediately sparkled and maliciously walk toward his son. "Boy, we really are alike." He said with a huge smile on his face. He and William, stare at a book about swordsmanship instructions. It is a passion that they both share.

Swordsmanship is also a common thing in their world, just as there are masters of spells, there are also masters of the way of the sword.
