You Love The Dark

“I did not see her. She’s not at her work place nor in her apartment. Her phone is switched off as well. I do not know what to do anymore. We need to get those informations she has and give it to my father. While we burn up the evidence she has against my father. That way Lanre could be safe fromu father and also receive his protection”. K said to Christian. This was after he left Lanre’s beauty parlour.

Christian looked at K questioningly. He asked K if he only thinks of covering up his father’s mess.

“What do you mean?” K asked Christian.

“What do I mean? Like, Lanre is doing the right thing. It will be good exposing Adewale Adekunle and other corrupt ministers including senator Ojo. But how could that be possible when the bad ones are used to take the bad ones off the road and are pledged allegiance to? You keep making me sick with your bullshit trying to cover up your father’s smelling anus. If you want to have Lanre then you should stop. I don’t mind doing anything to protect her. But giving those evidence to your father and destroying the ones that could ruin him is not a good idea. You are only doing the one thing Lanre hates most, controlling her”. Christian said to K.

K told Christian he was getting it all wrong and that his only intention is to protect Lanre and not to exercise control over her.

“Women are fragile creatures and needs to be protected”. K said. Christian told him to stop trying to fit two repellants in the same box. They still would not make a whole.

“I just want the best for her and my baby!” K said.

“And I am willing to sacrifice the best for her anytime. Can you sacrifice family for her?”

“Family is family Chris. Nothing ever changes that”. K said to Christian.

“Then I guess you father would not hurt me since I’m his sister’s son”. Christian said. K asked him what he meant by that but he just walked away telling K he guessed he was also in the dark and it may take a long time for him to come out of it seeing he loves the dark.

K watched silently as Christian disappeared out of view. Has he been wrong all these while, even up until now? He thought he was doing right now. Why does it seem like he and Christian can never be good friends again as they use to be? He was losing his best friend and it was not something he had bargained for. All the while they fought and all the while he wanted so much to separate Christian from Lanre, he did not really think this through. He did really think about how it will be like for them if they can’t communicate as before. He felt Christian does hate him now, so much.

“Lanre, where are you? I think I can only find solace in you right now”. K muttered.
