Did He Cheat On You?

Sharon decided to use English as instructed by Lanre. She told Lanre the details of all that happened, from when the woman came in looking like someone who had just returned from a fight yet ready for more fight. And how she requested for a perfect make over that will make her look less than her age. And when they told her they could do it, she asked for their madam. According to her, she has seen their madam’s photo, and none of them looked like her. Then she told them to call her, but they could not reach her because her number was not available.

Lanre faced palm herself. She had left her phone on on “Do not disturb”. And she had set it in a way she could only send and receive messages but not a call. She apologised to Sharon and asked her if the woman was still in the shop. Sharon told her she was in the other room and Aaron was trying to pacify her.

“I guess our celebration will begin later than now. Put the ice-cream in the fridge. I will go see her”. Lanre said. Then she went into her office first before going to the other room to meet with the said lady.

“Good day ma!” Lanre greeted once she got into the room. She asked Aaron to bring a bottle of wine while she sat on a chair. The woman who seem to have been lashing out on Aaron and Sharon seemed too quiet for Lanre to believe Sharon’s report. But there was nothing Sharon would benefit from lying to her. So she believed. If she had lied, then Chidinma would have said so.

“Are you the one who wants a makeover?” Lanre asked. The woman immediately answered rudely telling Lanre if she saw any other person there aside from her. Lanre just flashed her a forced smile. She was trying to condole the woman’s attitude. She wouldn’t want to drive away her customer even before she get to hold her.

“I’m sorry if I wasn’t so smart”. Lanre said. Then she told the woman they will start once she was relaxed. According to Lanre, the woman was not relaxed enough. She wouldn’t work under pressure of another person’s discomfiting countenance.

“Please make me look really beautiful so that of my husband sees me, he won’t look at any other girl again”. The woman said to her. Lanre who had just stood up to leave stopped in her track.

Could it be that the woman had caught her husband with another woman younger than her? Is that why she came lashing out on her workers. She turned and looked at the woman.

“Did he cheat on you?” Lanre asked. The woman began to cry. “After all these years with him. We suffered together, he forgot all these things. He is going after small small girls because they look like maami water (half human and half fish females rumoured to be extremely beautiful). This man called me old and ugly”. The woman said.
