Congratulations

K just hummed rather than replying Ify. Then he focused on eating his food in peace. Just then another couple walked in. They were being led by the manager of the restaurant himself. It seems they were the couple who already had the table reserved. Ify’s face was down and her eyes first saw the lady’s legs.

“This leg!” She said in her head. It did look like it belongs to someone she has known for quite a long time even if she wouldn’t say she did know the person.

“Oh! Kehinde, you are here!” It was Christian. He placed a hand on K’s shoulder knowing fully well that K gets irritated when someone place a hand on his shoulder while he is eating. K grunts inwardly.

“Sister Ify, you are also here! Wow! Are you guys here for a business transaction or it’s a date? The both of you barely sit together”. Christian said while Lanre stood lazily by his side with her head rested on his shoulder, his other hand wrapped around her waist possessively.

“Chris, do you want us to join them now? I’m tired and need to sit now!” Lanre said to Christian who seemed happy to oblige to her every request, even that which didn’t come out as one. Christian apologised for making her stand and carried her in his arms.

Ify could not help but wonder if this was just a façade or Christian has actually fallen for Lanre. But if that be the case, then Christian would be doing her a good favour by keeping Lanre off the market. If she stays with Christian, it only means she would neither be a part of her family nor take away her fiancé.

“Are the two of you now dating? Lanre hates being bothered around, and you seem to have a talent for it”. Ify said directing her question to Christian. Christian wore one of his sweetest smile which turned into a blush.

“Thanks to that talent, my sweetheart accepted my proposal”. Christian said taking Lanre’s hand and kissing the back of her palm. Lanre gave off a smile. Ify felt it was odd for Lanre to give off a genuine smile. But it seemed real enough, convincing enough to make Ify believe their union’s real. But it seems quite too early. Or did Lanre actually cheat on Christian with K? Ify thought.

“Congratulations you two! Lanre I always knew you will pull off a big fish. Nice hook!” Ify said. K clasped his cutlery passing all the anger in him to the innocent cutlery. Was Christian deliberately doing everything to annoy him these days?

“Chris, you met us eating. And I don’t see any reason why you should keep the lady with you waiting. Don’t you think her tiredness came from her being hungry?” K said to Christian. It was obviously to tell Christian that he was not welcome at their table. Ify immediately offered that they sit on the same table. But Christian opted out.
