Legal heartbreak

He was no longer a child for me to treat him as such. I would treat him as a grown human. He was going to have that fight he was craving to have.

Of course not a physical one since he was stronger than I was and he was a very strong hunter, but we were going to dance that legal battle together.

My phone buzzed as I looked at it to find it to be from my friend who was also the company lawyer. He handled things I didn't like to handle.

"Not now Marcus," I muttered before picking up the call.

"Mr Kane?" The man's friendly voice cracked over the phone. I wouldn't say that I liked the man because he was always on my wife's side whenever a decision was to be made legally, no matter how wrong it was. There was nothing to like with that kind of behavior.

"Yes?" I responded lazily.

"It has come to my understanding that your wife moved every share in both your names to that of her name and a mister Ron. I presume that's your brother."

My heart broke at the sound of that. Who did she think she was doing that to me? Why would she do that kind of thing?

"I'm sure there is some misunderstanding somewhere," I chuckled nervously. "You see, my wife would never do that because she would… she would need my signature for any action committed. I hope you understand."

"Mister, if you doubt me then you should come into my office today. Let's talk about this."

I was ready to take that offer. There was no way Ron would do that. I was still her legal husband. For her to move that, then she would need to take me out of her legal contract as her husband and take away the shares given to me, not the profits. I would still have a ton of money. But to send everything to my brother's name was too much.

I had to check in with the lawyer and hear what he would say.

"Give me a few minutes," I said, cutting the call to run and have my bath, before running out to change into my old outfit.

I had not had the chance to take out a better outfit for myself so I was going to wear the old outfit I had.

It reeked of sweat and an old perfume smell from the other day. But since I didn't have any choice of outfit I would wear what I had.

I looked around to see that my phone was on the table, which I grabbed and ran out of the room, heading for my car.

"Mister, we thank you for…" the receptionist's voice trailed off in the distance as I ran out of the hotel and got into my car.

While there, I took in deep breaths, readying myself for the news I was about to encounter from the lawyer. She had to have made a mistake in the things she was doing.

I drove through the slow traffic that morning and headed for the lawyers office.

Right in front of me, a portal opened up and swallowed a car as five demons emerged from it, killing everyone on the street.

I watched the demons massacre people as my heart pounded in my chest.

I felt like I was about to die and for a few seconds I forgot about my shares and focused on staying alive.

One of the demons saw me and immediately rushed for the car, swinging its tiny knife just as a large hammer smashed into it.

I held my chest and tried my best to control my breathing. Just then, a woman dropped before my car while flinging her hair backwards as she released a torrent of flames to the demons, burning them to nothing.

I could see from her armband that she was definitely B rank.

More low level hunters jumped down beside my car as they all rushed into the portal with her before I heard sirens behind me.

I didn't want to answer any questions so I diverted the car and drove it on the sidewalk, breaking traffic laws and heading for the lawyers office.

When I got to the office, I saw so many people staring at me, but I knew it was because of the outfit I had on. I looked like a mess. If only they knew what had happened.

When I got to the office, I barely knocked before getting into the office.

There at his desk was Mr Marcus, the lawyer in his black suit. He looked up to see me and smiled to his feet.

"Welcome," he said, pointing to a seat before his desk. "Are you okay? You seem… stressed."

"Yes," I sighed, falling into the chair. "I am stressed and tired but here to talk with you."

"On the issue?" he asked.

"Yes. That is why I am here. I couldn't quite hear you clearly on the phone because I didn't believe that my wife would do what she did. So I ask again, what happened? Was her account hacked or robbed or…"

"Actually her account is fine," he sat down, straightening his suit. "She has one of the finest security in the country so there is no way her account can be hacked."

"So what happened?"

"Like I said over the call, she moved all of your shares which were in your name and her name to her name and a mister Ron."

"Ron is my brother. Don't act like you don't know who he is."

"Apologies, sir. I was only trying to make sure and not make assumptions. But yes, she changed your name and replaced it with that of your brother's."

I was fuming and mad at this new development. What was going on?

I stood up to excuse myself as I ran out of his office hiding the tears from passersby.

Running nonstop while my vision was blurred by tears, I ran into my car, driving straight for my parents.
