5 Lettuce like you've never seen before

The morning noon light seeped through the golden leaves, creating patches of light on the grassy ground and illuminating the figure beneath.

Riya sat under a large Oak tree, hugging her knees to her chest. This was her favourite place in this forest. When she was first sent here almost two weeks ago, she found a strange attraction to this particular spot, and she had come here often since then.

This whole place was a punishment of some sort, for a mistake she believed wasn't really something she could be blamed for.

Back in her family's residence, the huge palace that was her family's living quarters stood so high, she had to crane her head up when she first walked outside its perimeter to get a good look at it. Domes and spires made out of pure and brilliant precious stones encompassed her field of vision. It was like nothing she had ever seen before, only heard of in magical stories told before bed time.

The walls of the structures had all been beautifully and ostensibly decorated. Each carved with magical symbols, that glittered and even moved as if they were alive, seeping from the walls to doors and to windows.

Riya had already come to one conclusion since her first few days out of the cradle; this was either some alternate world or a time long before her life as Abdo. The second option semed much more probable as it was instantly evident, that she was living in a place where the old egyptian gods in ancient mythology actually existed.

It was a baffling concept to absorb and digest. In her life as Abdo, even though he was egyptian, Abdo never cared for historical nonsense or myths of gods, cause all knew those were silly beliefs of an older less educated time.

"Why would you believe in something when you can believe in nothing and live your life out as you like" That was his life's motto before, as he played video games every waking day of his secluded life.

But as Riya wondered around her family Mansion and observed the so called Gods around her, tt was clear that the history of the Gods had more than a few bits of truth into them.

Her Mother Inui was A Nile Goddess, but a lesser one, since there wasn't just a single River Nile deity in Egypt. There were lesser and elder gods. Her mother was a lesser Goddess, while her father was an elder God as far as she knew. All the other gods she had seen till now bowed in respect to her father's will, which made her think he was probably quite important.

After her first time meeting her parents, she had never spoken to him again. All her needs were taken care of by the Priests which served her parents. Her mother called on her only a few times, and was quickly more and more disappointed by her daughter's mundane behavior and her refusal to carry herself as a deity. Riya insisted on just hiding in her room and loiter in corners away from contact for the first few days of her new life.

It was on the fourth day that she had finally summed up her courage, and decided to go speak to the highest author she can find, and to ask for an explanation for her condition. They were gods after all weren't they?

So she snuck out of her lavish chambers, and made her way to where she believed her father's wing of the mansion was. She had been forbidden to venture anywhere near it by her mother and the priests when she asked, but she knew the general direction.

So she made her way there quietly.

She should have suspected something was going on when no servants or priests took notice of her or even appeared around this area of the palace. But she just thought she was that good at being sneaky. A ninja Goddess she thought she might be with pride, as she stumbled across the palace awkwardly.

When she reached and spotted a huge set of doors carved from smooth black stones, she knew she found what she was looking for.

The towering double doors expanding before her view as she got closer, seemingly untouchable and glowing in an ominous way. The whole area near the door gave off a strange feeling of dread to anyone who looked upon it. Two large statues stood on either sides of the doors facing one another. Each resembled a man with the head of a Jackal. Anbuis or something, Riya recalled to herself from a distant memory.

She slowly approached the large door, and found to her pleasant surprise that it was ever so slightly ajar. Just enough for her to slip through.

So she did.

Inside, the room hung in an unnatural silence and stillness. as if time passed differently for her when she stepped inside. The room was not as lavish or extravagant as her rooms or others she has seen, but it pulsated with and aura and energy the likes of which she had never felt before. The walls glowed with a dark green hue, and long winding lines that resembled scales were carved all long in convoluted patterns.

In the middle of the room a transparent curtain hung in silence, behind which she could see the silhouette of a person pacing back and forth. "Its now or never." Riya thought to herself, before moving towards the curtain and pushing it aside with her eyes cast down in respect.

"My dear father, I'm so sorry to bother you, but please do not kick me out. I have to tell you something important, I'm not a God actually. I think i'm some sort of...uh.. A time traveler" She mumbled quickly in an improvised speech, hoping to blurt out as much as she could before he threw her back into her rooms..

"Is that right?" The unexpected reply came almost instantly to her.

"Yes! You should know since you are a great God and stuff, things like this probably happen often. I may look like this, but I am, or at least I was, a guy called Abdo from a far future. I think." she said in doubt, laying everything down in hopes of getting answers

"Oh the future, I see" he replied in pleasant tone of surprise. She felt a shadow looming over her as she stood with her head bowed down to the ground. "Yes yes, you actually get it?" she said in shock looking up to meet her father's eyes. He finally seems to have softened up to her and understands her concerns.

But the face she saw was not her father's. Before her she stood the most unpleasant looking person she had ever seen in her life. His face reminded her of a green decaying corpse, and he smiled at her in a way that made a shudder run down her spine. He was like the result of what would happen if a green Sci-fi alien and an egyptian mummy, had a one night stand while severely drunk.
