The Ordinary

"SO you're really a trash ordinary thing, huh?" The girl suddenly spoke to Gaia as she accompanied her towards the dorm room at the academy. They were the only ones in the hallway at that time since it was still class hours.

"Ah, yes..." The girl with ash-colored hair stopped walking and turned to look at Gaia, who was following her. She tossed a key that Gaia caught. They were now in front of Gaia's room.

"This will be your room, the two of you will share it. Good luck if you can survive this year at the Academy," she said emotionlessly to Gaia before leaving her alone. Gaia stood in front of a white door that matched the color of the walls. After a moment, she decided to enter.

The room she entered was not too spacious. She noticed two doors, indicating her room and her roommate's room. Gaia closed the door and then focused on the interior. There was a two-seater sofa and a mini glass table in the middle. There was also a TV, which pleased Gaia somewhat.

Gaia headed towards the sofa and sat down. While the outside was painted white, the interior walls were peach-colored. Gaia glanced at one of the doors of the two rooms. There was a sign that read— Keep Out on one of the doors.

Then Gaia concluded that it was her roommate's room since there was no label on hers. Carrying her bag and handbook, Gaia went to the front of the door of her room. She turned the doorknob, and it opened immediately. Gaia frowned when she noticed a familiar suitcase on the bed. She confirmed that it was hers. Gaia wondered if her mother had arranged for it to be delivered. She also thought her mother might have decided not to let her go home. 'What's new? She hates me,' Gaia said in her thoughts.

"Oh, you're here already," Gaia turned when she heard a voice from behind her. A beautiful girl with a cheerful face was standing outside her door. Gaia hadn't noticed her entering.

"H-hello," Gaia greeted with a hint of awkwardness. The girl smiled at her. Gaia wondered if that smile was genuine.

"Can I come in?" she asked Gaia with a smile, which Gaia immediately nodded to. The girl entered and extended her hand.

"I'm Zeira Algar, and I will be your roommate from now on." Gaia shook her hand and introduced herself.

 "I'm Gaia Moraitis, nice meeting you," Gaia greeted her with a smile, but Gaia quickly wiped the smile off her face when Zeira's eyes suddenly glowed pink.

"Hmm, I can't enter your mind. What's your ability?" Her eyes glowed pink, indicating that she was in the Supreme Tier.

Gaia let go of her hand and answered, "A-ah, I'm just ordinary." Gaia blinked as the light disappeared from Zeira's eyes, and she raised an eyebrow at Gaia's response.

"Are you serious?" There was a tone of disbelief and doubt in her voice. Gaia just nodded in response. Zeira, still not believing Gaia, continued to ask, "How did you manage to enter Loufnorths Academy, then? As far as I know, the Academy doesn't accept ordinary people."

Gaia sat on the bed before answering, "I excelled in every subject in my school, and they said that my intelligence is beyond normal. They considered me as unordinary even though I don't have an ability. My former school passed my card and high remarks to Loufnorth, and surprisingly, they accepted me." Gaia looked down while answering, not sure if Zeira believed her.

"Wow, that's new! Are you really sure you want to be here?" Gaia looked at Zeira's reaction and saw a trace of concern on her face— or maybe it's just a façade, Gaia thought. "I can handle it," was Gaia's only response, and she heard Zeira sigh.

"Loufnorths is at the top among unordinary universities in our country. The students here are almost delinquents; they can't be stopped if they want to hurt someone. And knowing you, who don't have an ability, you'll be an easy target here. But don't mind it, since you're my roommate now and will be my friend. So, don't worry if I'm around." Sincerity was seen in Zeira's smile, but Gaia still had doubts. She needed to learn her lesson. 'Friend? Really?' Gaia said in her thoughts, while countless memories flashed through her mind.

"Hey? Aren't you gonna say something?" Gaia shrugged away the train of memories from the past and smiled at Zeira. "Thank you, Zeira," was her only response, which seemed to disappoint Zeira. Maybe Gaia is still not used to other people, she thought. So, Zeira decided to leave her for now. "Alright, just knock on my door if you need something or want to ask something, okay?" Zeira reassured her that everything would be alright, and then she left Gaia's room and closed the door.

Gaia sighed in relief and lay down on the bed. She stared at the ceiling and thought about her decision. She came here to study, and she came here to be herself.

"This is for the best," Gaia said to herself.
