19 It is time... (6)

The night was far from young and the wind blew harder than it had in a few months. Being a valley city surrounded by mountain ranges, Dark City wasn't accustomed to having such strong winds. Bang, Bang. The tree's knocked on Kavira's window alarmed her, she could here the cries of pain they wailed yearning for the displeasing noise to stop.

Kavira felt too heartbroken to sleep. She lay in bed, her eyes were glued onto the ceiling hoping that the wind would stop eventually when she heard footsteps creek closer to her room door. She hastily lifted herself up on her shoulders ready to attack the intruder.

Clain had slept the entire evening and most of the night. He didn't realize when he fell asleep just that he suddenly did while waiting for Kavira to arrive. He was bitter that the General didn't bother to wake him when he knew how important it was for him to see her. She had saved his life and in returned she asked him to remember her. He wanted to welcome her back with open arms but sadly he was away when her eyes first flew open.

Many nights Clain would slip into Kavira bedroom to watch over her as she slept. When he opened her door he expected her to be asleep but hoped she would be awake, never would he have predicted that as soon as he opened the door she would freeze him solid.

"Oh no. Clain?" Kavira jump out of her bed. "Oh no.. I'm so sorry. I thought you were an intruder or something. What do I do?"

She knew his name. As frozen as he was his eyes followed her worried expression as she walked around his frozen body trying to find a way to unfreeze him. It was his second time seeing the girls emerald eyes, she had really grown to be a beautiful.

Clain needed to stop her from making noises, she was freaking out and if the General woke up he would fix the situation and not leave the two to speak in peace. He wasn't sure if what he was about to do was a good choice but he owed this girl his life. If he couldn't trust her, he couldn't trust anyone.

Clain closed his eyes feeling a burning sensation flow throughout his body. First his hands turned into flames and then his entire body followed suit. Kavira stood in place shocked by the burning Clain that stood before her. How did he do this? She saw his body turn into flames but she didn't wince, scream, panic, it felt natural.

She moved in closer to the man touching his burning chest. "How? How did you do that?" Her glistening eyes looked into Clain's honey eyes, he took one step closer to Kavira and his flames dispelled leaving his body completely naked. Kavira looked over her hand that was now laying on his bare rugged chest.

"I have spent years wondering the same thing. Ever since the day I met you I have been able to do this." His tall body towered over Kavira's and he took her hand off his chest, he moved his gaze from her eyes to the palm of her hand. "The day you saved me, you gave me so much more than just saving my life. No one knows about my powers, I have kept it hidden in order to protect you."

Kavira nodded in understanding. She focused her magic at the palm of her hand, flames erupted and Clain smiled. "How is this possible?"

Clain went into his room shortly after to dress himself. The two stayed awake for a few hours discussing possibilities of what may have happened, Clain talked about the night she had appeared five years ago with as much detail as he could remember. They fell asleep side by side on Kavira's bed at the break of dawn.

"Are you ready to start training?" Clain and Kavira were eating breakfast when the General hopped into the dinning room in lovely spirits. He was pleased to see the girl was growing up in his care, she was already cultivating magic at an alarming rate according to Cindy, now all she needed was to learn to fight well so that she didn't have to use her powers unless it was a last resort.

"I guess I've never been more ready." Kavira smiled, taking her finished plate to Ms. Folly who was cleaning up in the kitchen.

"We'll head out and be back for dinner. If you need us we'll be at the Fei sandpit." Clain typically informed the General about his schedule, he was grateful to the man for taking care of him and teaching him to be the true warrior he was today. He made sure to be as diligent and open with him as he could.

Kavira witnessed the interaction and bid farewell to both Ms. Folly and the General before following Clain out the back door of the General's house. Why won't he tell the General about his powers? Maybe the General wasn't the kind man she thought him to be but if that were the case then Clain wouldn't respect him the way he does.
