154 A Contract of Misfortune (3)

"I'm not interested in you or what you have to say. Clearly all the noble, honorable stories told about you are lies." Leena wanted to leave, there was no point in her being here. Whatever this man was up to can't be any good.

"Well if you're not interested, I'll tell you regardless." Jax moved closer to where Leena stood. She wanted to run but instead she stood her ground. This man wasn't going to scare her away, if he wanted to hurt her he would have already. "You see, I wanted to be seen as a good and noble king. I hated my wife, the only good thing she ever gave me were my children. Unfortunately, I couldn't treat them equally. Petina was the worthy one, however, her brother would never accept it."

Jax say down on his golden colored coach and offered Leena a seat opposite of him. She hesitated but in the end her accepted the offer.

"The only thing more powerful than my love for my children was the love for my throne. They would have ruined me and my image if I hadn't done that Contract of Misfortune."

"Contract of Misfortune?" Leena had a confused expression, she was unsatisfied with anything he was saying but this.. She had never heard of.

"It's a binding contract that allows you to make a wish of anything you desire but after your wish is granted misfortune will follow you as well as your close relatives."

"Why would you do such a thing?" There was so much to what he said that didn't make sense. Why would you grant yourself Misfortune? What good would that do to anyone?

"You see... I wanted eternal glory. My children... They would have battled it out to see who got the throne, I would have been left looking like a fool." Jax smirked at Leena. Had it not been for her already broken heart, this man would have made her waver. Though she had already seen Kizuato's real face, this man was much more daring and dangerous.

"So you did all of this for eternal glory, but how are you still alive?" They were immortal, him and his children.

"That was a gift from my wife..." Jax's eyes wondered off into the distance. It was almost like he was day dreaming. Leena remained silent but when he mentioned his wife there was unsettling pit in her stomach.

"There's no point in screaming. No one is going to hear you." Brenda turned around to look at the Pixie next to her. "How can you just stay calm when you're locked up in a dungeon?"

The pixie had sky blue skin with purple eyes similar to Cindy's. "I've been here for a few years now.. When I first came here I was just like you. Screaming... Desperate to leave, but no one came."

Brenda's emotions turned from anger to sadness. Empathy... This person was just like her yet she suffered more than she had. "Don't worry. My friends will come for me and you can leave this place with me."

The pixie shook her head. "I can't."

Brenda furrowed her eyebrows. "Why not?"

"I created 'A Contract of Misfortune'. If I leave the person that contract is bound to then I die along with them." Brenda had heard about such contracts but she had never known of anyone to do it.

"Well you can't stay here. This is cruel." Brenda wanted to argue with the Pixie but it seemed rather useless, she was more afraid for her life than her freedom. "What is your name?"

"My name is Hera."
