15 Chapter Fourteen. (The Secrets Emerge.)

After everything had calmed down, Hailey joined Jake and Amelia downstairs.

“Look, I’m sorry for reacting the way I did. I really do not know what came over me, I just snapped. I’m really sorry, Jake I –.”

“It’s not me that you have to apologise to Hailey.” Jake said to her.

“Right” she said as she looked to the ground. “Please forgive me Amelia.” She said as she looked at her with her big blue eyes slowly watering up.

“It’s okay Hailey, I understand, and you don’t need to apologise. I’m fairly sure I would’ve done the same thing. Friends?” she said with a smile on her face and arms wide open as she waited for Hailey to come in for a Hug.”

“Yeah, We’re friends.” She replied as she hugged her back.

“Okay, I really don’t mean to ruin your moment, but can someone help me open this, it’s actually really heavy.” Jake said as he looked at the two girls.

Hailey bent down beside him and grabbed onto the handle.

“Okay, on the count of three. One, Two, Three.”

They lifted the latch and a cloud of dust rose into the air. They coughed a bit and waited for the dust to clear as they looked down into the basement. The lights were on, which was most probably because Amelia got the electricity bill paid the day before.

“I guess they didn’t switch off the lights.” Jake said as he looked down the steep staircase.

Jake started walking down the wooden staircase. Hailey grabbed his hand before he got any further.

“Jake, What if there’s something down there.” she said to him with a look of worry all over her face.

“Don’t worry, I’m sure there’s nothing down there.” Jake replied. “Just stay behind me and everything will be okay.”

The three of them slowly made their way into the basement. It was full of dust and to their surprise it was filled with strange sculptures, books and symbols that they had never seen before.

“What is all of this.” Amelia said to herself.

She took a look around, and it was probably the scariest room she has ever been in, and her house was pretty scary, but nothing could compare to what was in front of her at that very moment. Books in glass cases were wrapped in chains, ancient scrolls were on the shelves and what was most probably the scariest thing she had ever seen was the steel bed in the center of the room covered in blood. It had chains on each corner, it looked like it was used to hold someone down.

“What is this place?” Hailey said as she walked towards a stand that had a big book on it. She got closer and stared at it. It was impossible to read the writing though, it was some funny language that no one knew. She flipped the pages and noticed that each page had some kind of weird symbol on it.

“This has to be Ancient texts.” Jake said as he walked up towards Hailey with an old scroll in his hand.

Amelia walked up to a table that was stacked at the end of the room. Sharp and weird objects that looked like they were used to torture someone were placed on the table on top of what seemed to be an old red cloth. In fact, the cloth seemed to be white, it looked like it was used to clean up someone’s blood, as some of the tools that were on it seemed to still have some blood stains all over them, at least it looked like blood. She picked up one of the sharp knives and stared at it, her hands were shaking and her brain was failing to process what she was seeing around her.

The room proved to her that her whole life has been built on a lie, literally. A house that had so much peace and love as she grew up was built on top of all the horrors she could think of, and they were all in this one little basement. She dropped to her knees and tears rushed out of her eye’s. The pain of not knowing who her parents were or what they did was devastating.

Hailey rushed towards Amelia and held her tight, trying to calm her down but it was no use. Jake on the other hand saw a piece of paper which was covered in blood on the table. He walked over towards it and grabbed it, with the intention to read what was written on it. The first thing he noticed was that it was a letter, A letter written to Amelia. It read:

"Dear Amelia

I hope you never get to see this. For my heart aches for what you are about to read. If you are reading this, then just know that something has happened to me and we will probably never meet again, but please understand that how I raised and loved you was never a lie my angel.

You see, your father and I have always been interested in the unreal and supernatural. It was a childhood obsession to be honest, at first it was just about trying to prove that there is more than just the world we live in. Until one day we came across, ‘The books Of the Undead’. Your father found this book in the library one day, it was in a dark and old storage room, covered in dust. He got drawn to it the moment that he saw it and brought it home. He learned the language of the dead and practiced it’s beliefs. We grew obsessed with it until it changed from a habit into a lifestyle.

The book possesses many secrets that our world is not ready to hear. It can grant you anything you could ever desire, it can attain beyond limits of any human capabilities and do miraculous things. It was proof that we do not live alone in this dark, cold and empty universe. However, happiness comes at a great expense, for each request that we made from the book it required a sacrifice. Little did we know that the killings were to sustain the same creature that created the book itself.

A demon that longs to rule our world, and her name is Sarathna. She is a mistress of the dark and ruler of the underworld, she feeds off of the blood of the innocent to regain her strength, where one day she will be able to return the world in which we claim as ours. She is said to return when there is a solar eclipse, also known as the blood moon, but she will be unable to walk into our world unless she is given a passageway through. Her spirit also requires a body for her to be able to walk the earth.

I did not want you to find this out, but you also have a younger sister, her name was Ariana. You were too young to remember this, but your father and I were about to have our second child, however, things changed. You see, the demon demanded that we sacrifice her, but we could not. We could not kill her Amelia. So we decided to leave her at the hospital, hoping that someone else would care for her. We tried to get rid of the book, but it was just impossible. Once you serve the book it latches on to you for eternity. Noting we tried worked until one day we decided to lock it up down here. We promised to never read the book ever again but that made things worse, after a while the demon started to haunt us, it started off as dreams but soon it turned into visions. Nightmares become a reality and we would see her everywhere we would go. We were not safe anymore; our lives were at risk and so was yours.

That is why we did what we did, we had to protect you as she was getting too close to you and the only way to stop her was to detach the book books vitality from us. The only way to do that was give our very souls to her. We are terribly sorry for everything Amelia; we really did not mean for this to happen, but it was the only way.

Just promise me that, when you find the book you shall not to read it, immediately take it and burn it to ashes my Amelia. Not a single page must be left. for she has sent out demons which possess human souls, they use our bodies to hide amongst us while they search for the book. No one can find this book Amelia, for it shall bring sheer destruction at the cost of millions of lives. Just promise me to burn the book and let no one see it. Do not trust Anyone Amelia.

We love you my Angel.

Mom & Dad."
