5 Chapter Four.

An early morning with the sound of birds chirping and sun shining through the window it was the start of a new day. Jake and Hailey were still fast asleep, wrapped around each other as if they were each other’s blankets on a cold winters day. Diane had just finished preparing breakfast, unaware that Hailey was in the house she walked up to jakes room and barged in.

“Ja-.” As she opened the only to see the both of them fast asleep.

“Aahum” cleaing her throat trying to get the two’s attention.

Jake woke up and looked his mother standing at the doorway in her pyjamas and arms crossed.

“Mom” he yawned, still unaware of the situation that he is in.

He quickly noticed Hailey was still laying on his chest.

“Oh, it’s not what it looks like.” he said as he slightly raised his voice. “we just fell asleep out of the blue I don’t even remember wha –”

“No need to panic, I know nothing happened I’m just surprised that’s all. Anyways we are going over to take a few things to the house today, just to lighten the load before we officially move in on Monday. Maybe your girlfriend would like tag along” she said with a cheeky grin on her face.

“Ha-ha very funny mom” Jake replied.

“Anyways, there’s breakfast downstairs. Don’t take too long please, we leave in an hour.” she said as she walked out the room and closed the door on her way out.

She stood at the door for a few seconds and started asking herself if she had done the right thing. After all she did walk in on her son in bed with his girlfriend. Not that they did anything, well at least she hopped so, but she started to realise that she needed to talk to Jake about this, seeing that she is Jakes only parent. She eventually walked off and went to go take a shower.

30 minutes later she walked downstairs into the kitchen to find Jake already sitting at the counter eating his breakfast.

Curious as to where Hailey was, she asked, “Sweety, where’s Hailey?”

“She in the shower.” He responded with a mouth full of food.

“Oh, I’m surprised you didn’t join her.” She said in a joking manner.

Jake choked on his food and look at his mother.

“Oh come on now, I’m only joking. I’m just surprised she even let go of you. When I walked in she was clinging on to you as if she were a baby kangaroo in her mothers pouch.” She said once more in a joking manner.

“Aww, I love kangaroos” Hailey responded as she made her way down the stairs into the kitchen.

Jake choked on his food once more, completely nervous that Hailey might have heard what his mom was saying earlier on.

“So, what’s the topic about Kangaroos?” Hailey asked with a wide smile on her face as she dished up some food.

Jake Stared at his mom waiting for her to respond.

‘Uhm, we were just saying how we would uhm, like to have a pet Kangaroo because they’re extremely cute isn’t that right Jake?” Diane said as she cleared her throat.

“Y-yes, really cute, I’d love to have one someday.” Jake said hesitantly.

“Wow okay, I don’t think that’s really allowed but hey, who knows. Do you guys usually have awkward conversations?” Hailey asked with a slightly awkward look on her face as she stared at the both of them.

“Yes, yes we do.” Diane responded as she drowned out her voice by taking a sip of her coffee.

“Anyways, we’re taking a few things up to the house are you coming along?” Diane asked as she as she hesitantly changed the conversation.

“Oh, yes Jake told me about it when I woke up.” Hailey answered.

“Great." Diane said with a huge smile across her face. “well, you guys finish off your breakfast, I’m going to go start loading a few things into the car.”

“Me Too” Jake said nervously.

“Oh, uhm okay, do you guys need any help?” Hailey asked.

“No” the both of them said simultaneously.

They both walked off and left Hailey in the kitchen to finish of her food.

“Okay? That was awkward” Hailey said to herself.

Hailey finished the rest of her breakfast and went to the garage to help Jake and Diane pack. After last night she could not stop staring at Jake, every time she looked at him all she could think of was the kiss, and every time he made eye contact with her, she’d blush. Diane immediately noticed that something was different about the two, as if they were now shy of one another or something.

They finished packing the car and started getting ready for the drive ahead of them. It was not that long; it was about a 45-minute drive from where they currently stayed. Hailey Rushed to the car and dibbed the front seat. Jake laughed and got in the back without saying a single word. After 10- minutes of driving Diane broke the silence and entered what was probably the most awkward conversation ever between her and the two teenagers.

“Jake, Hailey” Diane said softly.

“Yeah?” they both responded and turned their attention to her.

“I know you two are getting old and I know over the years you both have developed feelings for each other and it’s okay. Its clear that you two are attracted to on another and possibly some kind of sexual attraction is growing between the both of you.”

“mom” Jake said as if he were embarrassed

“Jake darling let me finish. I just want you two to know that I’m here for you but please, I don’t want any of you making babies, well at least not now because I would like to have grandchildren someday, but that’s not the point. I know the both of you are responsible, you always have been, this is just a reminder for the both of you to continue being responsible and if you are going to have sex at least use protection, or go to the hospital and take a shot, I’m a nurse and I know everything about this, even I can give you the shot Hailey.

“Okay mom, please. We didn’t have sex last night” Jake said with a straight face.

“We could have” Hailey interjected as she turned around and looked at Jake with a slight smirk on her face.

“Wait what? Hailey, don’t entertain her.” Jake replied.

Hailey giggled, “I’m just messing with you babe. Jake! I mean Jake.” She said nervously as she quickly corrected herself.

“How about we listen to some music” Diane suggested, to try break the awkwardness that she had initially started.

She switched on the radio and continued driving. Everybody was probably silent for the rest of the drive until they actually arrived at the house. They got out the car and unpacked everything into the house, still leaving most of the of the stuff in their boxes. As soon as they were done Hailey stepped out the house and went to the back garden. Jake and Diane spotted her from the window of what was going to be Jake’s new bedroom.

“You’re going to miss her aren’t you” Diane said as she looked at him and smiled ever so slightly.

“She’ll visit” he said, as he continued to stare at her “but yeah, I will miss her.”

“You can go to her she said as she gave him a slight nudge with her shoulder “I’ll finish of whats left then we’ll head back home.”

“You sure?” he asked.

“Of course, now go” she said with a smile.

Jake rushed down to go spend some time with Hailey.

“Hailey” he said as he made his way towards her.

She did not respond, he called her name out once more but she still didn’t respond to him, let alone flinch. Jake got closer and put his arms around her.

“Hailey are you okay?” he asked.

“Jake!” she said as she got a little scare from his touch.

“Hey, are you okay?” Jake asked as he slowly turned her around to face him.

“Hailey, your nose is bleeding” Jake said, surprised that she did not even notice it. “Come on, tilt your head back, I’ll take you inside and get you cleaned up.”

Jake turned around as he walked towards the house with Hailey, curious to see what Hailey was staring at which had her so focused that she didn’t even hear him calling her. Let alone noticr that she was bleeding.

Through the thick and bushy woods, he got a slight glimpse of the house that he saw in the article.

“The Flints house” he said underneath his breath.

He knew it was close to where he stayed but he did not think it was that close. The photo in the article made seem like It was a lot further than it actually was. Jake and Hailey stepped in the house, with hailey's blood dripping all over the wooden floor. He picked her up and sat her on the countertop.

"I'll be right back he said" as she went to go look for some paper towels in one of the unpacked boxes. He returned with a few paper towels and handed them to Hailey.

“Mom!” Jake yelled.

“I’m okay Jake, no need to rush her” Hailey said as she held the paper towels underneath her nose.

“No, you’re not okay. We’re leaving.” He said to her.

“mom!” Jake yelled once more.

“What, what is it?” Diane responded worried as ever.

“Come on, we’re leaving.” He said with a straight face as he grabbed the car keys and his mothers purse off the kitchen counter.

“Wait, what do you mean we’re –” She gasped and rushed over towards Hailey

“darling, are you okay what happened, where’s all this blood coming from?” she asked worried as hell.

“We have to go.” Jake said.

“But –.”

“Mom, we’re leaving” he interrupted

"What about all the blood on the floor?" Hailey asked as she hopped off the kitchen counter.

"Don't worry about it," Jake responded, "plaese just hesd to the car."

Hailey went to the car while Diane and Jake locked up the house. She removed the paper towels to check if the bleeding had stopped and it did. Shortly after that Jake hopped in the car followed by his mother and they made their way back to the house. Diane still as curious as to why Hailey was bleeding, she asked what happened but none of them were able to give her clear answer, not because they did not want to but because they did not know either. Diane quickly let go of the topic and stopped worrying over it as she was aware that several things thing could cause nose bleeds naturally, she was nurse after all.

Everyone seemed silent and tense for the rest of the drive home. Diane drove up to Hailey’s house and stopped the car right outside. Hailey unplugged her seat belt and thanked Diane for having her the night before and the little outing they had, even though it seemed to end up in a bit of a disaster.

“I’ll text you later, just get some rest okay?” Jake said with a smile on his face as Hailey stepped out the car.

Hailey looked at him and smiled, “Thanks Jake, for everything.”

“Bye sweety” Diane said as he drove off and rolled up her window.

Hailey stood for a moment and took a deep breath as she watched them drive away. Her little sister Isabel saw her through the window and rushed out the house to giver her a big hug tight before they made their way into the house.
