Prolouge

Men in armored suits surrounded a small house, they seemed to be prepared for a battle of some sort but there was one man who was only in a nice suit. The man in the suit gave the others their orders to surround the house and make sure no living beings got out of it. When they were all prepared they kicked down the door and stormed into the house searching for something.

"Remember we are looking for a high-ranking ghoul, so make sure to stay alert of your surroundings." The man said. "If you find anything suspicious alert everyone else in the surrounding area, and stay in groups."

The men looked around the house and walk into each room looking for anything suspicious, then they entered the last room there was blood all over the floor and walls. A small girl is sitting in the middle of the floor mumbling to herself while rocking back and forth. She doesn't seem to have noticed that the men have entered the house in general.

"Sir, there is a little girl in this room," one of the men shouts. "She seems to be in shock, what should we do?" The man in the suit walks into the room and looks down at the little girl. He walks closer to her, then he taps on her shoulder to get her attention. The little girl looks up at him and that is when he notices that one of her eyes is the eye of a ghoul, but her other eye is normal. He looks at her in shock and takes a step back for a moment.

"We should talk to a higher-up first to ask about this issue, she does not seem to pose a threat at the moment but we should still keep an eye on her." The man replies while grabbing his phone. "I will contact the headquarters to see what we should do with her, four men need to search the premises for any clues about the ghoul that should have been here."

Four of the armored men leave the room to search the premises, meanwhile, the man in the suit makes a phone call and walks away from the group. The little girl looks back down at the ground, she starts to mumble again but it is so quiet that nobody else can hear it. After a few minutes, the man walks back over to the girl and sighs.

"They want us to bring her with us when we leave, want to do some experiments or something." He says as he crouches next down to the girl. "Hey there, do you think you can come with us when we leave?" She doesn't reply and stares at him blankly, then she shakes her head saying no to his question. He sighs again and looks over at one of the men. "You have the tranquilizers, right?"

"Yes sir, I have them, do you need one?" The armored man asks. The man in the suit nods and the little girl stands up to run away. One of the men ends up catching her though and the man in the suit then uses the tranquilizer on her to make sure she doesn't hurt anyone. After the group of four men return they leave the house and head back to headquarters while keeping an eye and the half-ghoul girl.

Once they arrive at the headquarters they bring the girl into a secluded room and lay her down on the bed in there. They lock the door once they are out of it and watch the girl with security cameras. It takes a few hours for the girl to wake up but they call a doctor who specializes in ghoul research to check on her when she is awake. Some researchers looked into her history to try and find a reason as to why she was a half-ghoul.

During their research they found out that she had been in an accident a month ago and was still recovering, her wounds had healed up quickly but she still had some internal injuries and a few broken bones that were still healing. She was only eight years old, and it had just passed her birthday. They don't know what exactly happened but they plan to try to ask her once she is awake.

When she finally woke up they sent the doctor into the room with a small group of people to make sure they were safe. She quickly moved away from them and curled into a ball. She felt vulnerable and alone after witnessing her parents die right in front of her. Despite the way they treated her after the incident she still loved them and wanted them to love her back despite all that had happened.

Once they found out she was a half-ghoul they completely neglected her so she was stuck fending for herself. She was never given proper food so she rarely left her room from being constantly weak. She tried to have conversations with her parents but they never acknowledged her or they threw things at her to get her away from them. They were scared of her and called her a monster and after the accident, she lost all of her memories including her name.

So when she was asked what her name was her response would be "I don't know". When the doctor came into the room the man wearing a suit the day she was found came into the room with him. The man looks down at the girl and she looks back up at him.

"We brought a doctor who specializes in ghoul research so he will know how to do a proper assessment on you." The man says with a small smile, hoping to not scare her too much. The little girl still looks tense though and doesn't move from the corner so he takes a small step forward and crouches down next to the bed.

"My name is Audric, what is yours?" The man in the suit asks while looking at her. She doesn't reply for a moment and looks as if she is trying to remember what her name is.

"I don't know what my name is… I lost my memories after the accident and my Mama and Papa just always called me a monster." She whispers softly. Audric's smile fades and he stands up.

"We should give you a name then, how would you like that?" he asks while holding out his hand for her. She then smiles and places her hand in his.

"I would love that," She says. They have the doctor check her out and they find out that despite being a ghoul she has not consumed even the smallest bit of a human. Because of that, she is extremely malnourished which causes her healing to be slowed down extremely. They attempt to get her to eat but she refuses so they end up having to use a feeding tube so she can get the nutrients she needs.

"So sweetheart, how does the name Mable sound to you?" Audric asks with a smile after sitting next to her. She nods showing that she likes the name despite being upset about being forced to consume parts of humans. Audric decides to take her in as a daughter in a way and raise her.

He trains her in self-defense and battle so that if it came to it she would be able to protect herself. He knew that he would be able to help her because he was a half-ghoul himself so they weren't too different. He made sure she ate enough but struggled with her at times.

She hated eating because she did not want to harm humans and be seen as even more of a monster than people already consider her to be. She hated the way people looked at her when finding out she is half-ghoul. So she typically never told anybody about it unless they somehow found out. Mable also tended to avoid people so she wouldn't hurt them, and for this reason, she was homeschooled by people close to Audric.

Once she was able to leave Audric took her to his house and set up a room for her there. The next morning he was cooking breakfast in the kitchen and it looked like normal food, but it had small bits of humans in them, the humans for them were the ones executed for committing horrible crimes.

"By the way Mable, when you turn eighteen you will be joining a group of kids your age to help get rid of dangerous ghouls who are constantly causing harm to humans," Audric informs her while setting down a plate of food for her.

"Will the other kids be ghouls like me?" Mable asks and he shakes his head.

"Unfortunately no, most ghouls end up going after humans constantly, not being able to resist the temptation of human flesh," Audric says. "So we have very few ghouls in our forces, and none of them are your age, so unless we find more who are like you it is very unlikely."

"Oh," She says sounding a little disappointed. They then eat in silence not saying a word to each other, Days go by and their routine never changes, eat breakfast, Audric goes to work, Mable starts school work, then they eat dinner together, watch some television, and finally they go to sleep. Over the next few years, they stuck to their schedules but still make time to hang out together.
