5 Chapter 5

-----(Ariel's POV)

As soon as Ariel is out of sight, she changes directions, heading towards a small luxurious building on the outskirts of the school. The small building is built in the style of a small ranch, but has a seven foot tall stone wall surrounding it.

Next to the only gate in the wall are two stout men wearing tanned leather armor with an insignia of a star surrounded by mist.

Weirdly enough, this building is the only building in the entire school that seems to be guarded. Even so, the guards bow deeply to Ariel. "Welcome Guardian!" Both guards hurriedly exclaim as Ariel casually walks through the iron gate.

Walking right into the house, Ariel sits in the foyer on a small armchair opposite to a man wearing black jeans and a white t-shirt with the same insignia as the guards outside, but in color. The star is a shade of purple, resembling a nighshade flower. And the mist surrounding it seems to be almost moving both behind and in front of the flower.

"I see you've brought yet another potential candidate, though I'm surprised hes been hiding right under our noses this entire time..." The man simply states "Keep an eye on this one for now. Being able to hide, even if he was awakened before, shows that there is something special about him."

"Either that, or you put too much trust into the seers." Ariel mockingly adds, "Seers aren't omniscient, they do misinterpret many things."

The man sighs as he stands and starts walking to the door behind him, "In any case, he seems to possibly have some talent in spellcraft, seeing as he easily learned mana manipulation in only a couple hours, when most people take at least weeks. We could use such a talented caster within our ranks."

Without paying Ariel any more attention, the man walks into the back room and shuts the door. Ariel seemingly used to such treatments just leaves the house, heading back towards the school.

------(Jaylen's POV)

As soon as I enter the Administrative building, the clerk at the front desk warmly greets me.

"Welcome. You must be Jaylen Frost? I heard Ariel brought a newly awakened in."

"That would be me. What do I need to do to register?"

"I'm glad you decided to join us. Our world is dangerous on your own, but with our help you'll easily carve a place for yourself." The clerk happily replies as she grabs some forms from a small filing cabinet "Our registration process is rather simple. First we would like you to fill out these forms. There's basic information, a small moral evaluation, and an agreement to perform some basic duties to earn your keep here. Fill each one out and I'll help you finish the registration after."

"Why is the moral evaluation necessary? I'm not sure anyone who was brought into this world would necessarily be sound of mind this early."

"Don't worry, it's just to test some of your morals to make sure they dont go against our normal ideals." The clerk happily clarifies. "Dont worry about your recent experiences affecting the evaluation."

I guess these aren't too hard to fill out. I take the forms and a pen, and sit down in one of the nearby chairs.

Name, Jaylen Frost. Date of birth, Feb. 15 2002. Age, 17. Ethnicity, Caucasian. Education level, High school Junior.

The form seems to be a normal personal information form, until it gets to the magic. Magic capabilities, I guess my only magic is [Mana Manipulation]. Prefered Combat Method(Pick Two), It looks like I can choose from Melee, Ranged, Magical Melee, Magical Ranged, Stealth, or Support Magic.

My answer to this will likely change what classes I take, so I should probably think this one through. My physical stats are too bad for any physical attack styles, and I've never learned to sneak around correctly, so that rules out stealth. This leaves me with me with Magical Melee, Magical Ranged, and Support Magic.

Magical Melee sounds like it would border on both physical and magical attacks while Support Magic would probably weaken my combat abilities while alone, but make my team stronger as a whole. Again my physical stats are horrible, so I should probably rule out Magical Melee. I circle Support Magic and Magical Ranged.

Well, looks like it affect more than just my classes here. I wonder if that's on purpose or just unknown to them.

That looks like the end of the first form. The next one is the psych evaluation. I dont understand how anyone would be expected to pass a normal moral evaluation in this type of situation, let alone one made by a magical organization. Hell, I have trouble passing normal moral evaluations in normal situations. Let's just get this over with before I lose hope.

Okay, First question, In a world where the strong rule, would you be able to put yourself in danger to protect the weak, ignore the weak, or push them further down to raise yourself up?

Straight to the hard questions. I guess I would honestly ignore them, I believe if you're weak, it's because you didnt put the effort in to not be so, so why should I help you. It doesn't mean I would push them down, but there will always be people in need, and I'm not omnipotent.

Second question, If you were put into a situation where a strong man and a beautiful woman were about to be put into slavery, and you had the choice of saving one and killing the other, or letting them both be put into slavery for the rest of your lives, what choice would you make?

I guess it would depend on the reasons of them being put into slavery. If I didn't know, I'd probably ignore them. If one committed evil deeds and the other had a good heart, I'd save the good one and let the other die.

-----

After about 30 minutes of answering similar questions, I finish the evaluation and move onto the agreement.

After reading through it, it mostly seems to be saying I'll share any discoveries, creations, or loot from monsters with the school to further the schools abilities to sustain itself and teach others. Nothing too bad that anyone would really see as going overboard.

I walk back to the clerk with all the filled out forms and hand them to her. She takes them and casts what looks like a simple spell on them and smiles.

" Looks like everything's in order, if you'd follow me, I'll take you to finish the registration." The clerk states and then walks to a door to the side of the room. "The only part left is for you to receive your ID. The ID will be bound to you and will allow us to track you, and know when you're in danger. At any point, if you feel you're strong enough without our protection, you can unbind it, but be warned, we wont bind another to you, so think carefully before you do so. When unbound it will still allow you into the school, and will act as a communication device but that's it."

"Wait, so you'll always be monitoring me?" I ask hesitantly.

"Oh dont worry, we wont be monitoring your location unless you're in danger, otherwise it wont send an active signal." The clerk calmly clarifies.

The clerk walks through the door, leading me into a small room with one of those beds you commonly see in doctors offices.

"Please just lay down, and relax." The clerk orders, "It will hurt at first, but it's for your own protection and well being."

Thinking that it will probably hurt just as much as a shot at a doctors office, I ignore that warning and lay down on the bed.
