32 The Envoy

In one of the rooms of Arc Tower, a meeting between two people took place.

"I've called you here to tell you of an important mission." An elegant looking woman said with deep worry imprinted in her face as she continued to talk with the young man standing in front of him. The young man had black hair that handsomely matched his thick brows and black eyes.

"Recently, there has been unusual disturbances in the magic leylines. Lord Magistrate Juron has personally instructed us to send someone to investigate on the matter. I know everyone is busy with their own research and breakthroughs, but l chose you for this mission because I believe in your abilities. This is a highly confidential matter thus I require you to work on it discreetly."

"Understood, High Magistrate Kiri." the man said in his deep voice as he nodded his head.

"Don't worry Alamid, after this mission I will help you reach your own breakthrough."

Hearing this Alamid couldn't contain his happiness and his eyes opened wide for a second but calmed down immediately in the next.

"Thank you High Magistrate Kiri.", admiration evident on his eyes.

In the Arcane Watch, going up the ranks requires magicians to have achievements and breakthroughs. As one goes up the ranks, achieving this is certainly difficult especially without proper guidance. Alamid, has been a Magus (Rank 2) for a long time already as is one of the promising candidates for the promotion to Magistrate. He only needs one more breakthrough and has been working on it ever since but he kept failing all the time. The High Magistrates are busy people and a single guidance from them are very beneficial to those in the lower ranks. For one such as High Magistrate Kiri to offer him guidance, Alamid couldn't stop himself from getting excited.

'After this mission, I would definitely be one of the few Magistrates in the country.' he thought.

High Magistrate Kiri, no matter how Alamid tried to hide it from her, noticed this so she reminded him,

"Sometimes an incident is just a tip of an iceberg, a sign of a much larger problem below the surface." She looked at the young man's eyes trying her best to warn him of what is ahead of him. She couldn't shake the feeling that something grim might happen. She even tried to dissuade the Lord Magistrate of this mission but she also knew that it had to happen. Time was already running out.

Alamid understood what his Senior wanted to say. His expression immediately changed from excitement to grit. Given all the warnings High Magistrate Kiri had been hinting him, he knows this mission isn't as easy as it seems.

-----------------------------------------------------

It was already getting dark outside the Arc Tower, but a silhouette could be seen standing within its shadow. Alamid just stood there staring intently at the majestic building. Once upon a time he had only wished to become a part of this highly esteemed occupation but soon he would be one of those whom people would be looking up to.

Out of all the missions he did, this was the most crucial one. Giving the Arc Tower a final look, he mumbled a few words and started flying. Overlooking the peaceful surroundings, he started to look around the vast lands and thought of where he could start.

'This will be a long one.' he thought and sighed.

He was about to dart off the Magistrate Sanctum when his magic tracker suddenly alarmed, sensing a powerful magic disturbance nearby. Before he could look for a sign for the source, it faded away in an instant. He closed his eyes and focused his energy but the disturbance was gone.

He opened his eyes in confusion, his brows furrowed together. He originally planned to start his search at the far ends of Stormfall, thinking these disturbances could be caused by some renegade magicians practicing illegal magic. But his tracker was triggered right at the heart of City 21.

'This could only mean that the source of the disturbance is within the Magistrate Sanctum.' he thought with his face starting to turn grim.

Magicians were allowed to live in this district because they were known to be the most disciplined citizens. It's impossible that a member of the Arcane Watch was defying the very laws they were taught to uphold.

'This only means there might be a breach within our ranks.' Alamid reasoned, trying to block out the negative thoughts forming in his mind.

Unsure about all of this, he popped out a thumb-sized capsule and activated it. A green screen flashed in front of him, and the communication device started recording. He narrated what had happened and sent it to High Magistrate Kiri.

After making sure his message had been delivered, he decided to walk around the vicinity and scan the area for anything amiss. He perfectly landed on his feet as he ended the levitation spell, and started to pave his way along the houses.
