20 Recovery

After pawning off all the chests and the objects inside they now had entire backpack filled with nothing but food. Yet Sionna quickly realized it wasn't going to last them very long because Caith eats probably five times more food than her. And when they stopped in a restaurant for the 3rd time in the day the sun was still high in the sky and she had more then her share of food for the day. And she caught her self thinking. 'Does this man ever stop eating?'

Which made Caith give her a look, his mouth still full of steak.

"I have never seen anyone eat as much as you. And my Papa had a friend that was half water giant." She said recalling the large man that would come over for dinner and could barely fit through the doorway.

"You mean an Ogre," he said after swallowing his piece of steak. His eyes carefully watching the way she reacted to his comment.

"You know they don't like being called that." She said narrowing her eyes at him. She could see her Papa lecturing her about the Water giant's nick name while she sat by the fire in their little cottage.

"Did your Papa ever tell you about reincarnation?" He said ignoring her comment and taking another bite of steak.

"Not really," she said and was about to make another comment when he cut her off.

"Giants believe in reincarnation, and the reason that ice giants can control all magical elements is because they were once a water, earth, and fire giant in there past lives."

She looked at him her green eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Ice giants mediate a lot, when they do that they reach into their past lives. This allows them to pull knowledge from them their past lives. And in my time as a ogre I never did mine the nick name, but I remembered my peers would often get very angry about it." He gave her a smile before taking another bite.

"If ice giants were once every other giant, what do they become in their next life?" She watched him finish his bite of food preparing his answer.

"I don't know," he shrugged, "my father never told me, but maybe he will tell you."

"Why wouldn't he tell you?" She asked.

"He said I need to learn on my own. That's what every ice giant needs to discover for themselves." He quickly ate the last few bites of steak and took some gold out of his pockets and set it on the table.

"Are you sure you don't want anything? We probably won't be able going to restaurants once Umuriro finishes our weapons."

"When do you think he will finish them?" When we dropped on the chest he was thinking possibly another day."

"Oh, when can you start teaching me how to control my thoughts so you can't read them?"

"Right now," Caith said standing and after saying goodbye to the restaurant owner she followed him into the woods.

A shorter woman with grey greenish skin walked from one side of the court yard to the other. She held a walking stick in one hand which helped her maintain her balance. It was clear from the strained expression on her face that the task was not easy. She paused halfway through the court yard to catch her breath.

"Ciall," said a cold smooth voice and a woman in a black cloak appeared from the castle wall.

"Glad to see you are recovering quickly." Said the woman approaching her.

"Thank you Keeper," she said lowering her head in a sort of half bow.

"I was able to make this because of your quick thinking, it's better then what Sullen was using to track the fox." She said pulling a compass from her cloak.

"I want to put you in charge of finding the wolf and the fox. I will prepare a larger party for you to lead. Even when you barely escaped with your life you managed to not come back empty handed. I am impressed as always." She said pulling her hands back into her cloak. Ciall gave another bow to the best of her ability with the walking stick.

'If would be a shame for her to die in this quest.' The Keeper thought to herself looking at Caill rather crippled and weak.

"The party will leave tomorrow morning. Will that be sufficient rest for you?"

"Yes, of course. I will need to take some healing potions with me so that I can heal along the way." Ciall said now looking up the Keeper who's red eyes looked pleased with her reply.

"It will be arranged, now go back and rest." She said turning away and walking back the way she came.

Once she was far out of sight Ciall sighed, her body exhausted. As she stumbled back to the infirmary.

When she arrived a short man with yellow cat like eyes and pointed ears was sitting on her bed.

"What are you doing here Demarcus?" She asked glaring at the man.

"Came to bring the best commander of the Keeper's army company." He said with a devious simile.

"Go away." She said shortly shuffling over to her bed.

"That's why you aren't in your private chamber right? You must be itching for someone to talk to." He said still sitting on the end of the bed that she was struggling to get into.

"Actually, it's because I was paralyzed and poisoned. This might come as a shock but it takes more then a few days for me to recover from that." She said pulling the covers up so that she could slip into the bed. And tried to give him a firm kick from under the sheets but her legs were still too weak.

"Awh, boss why are you in such a rotten mood? Maybe you would feel better if you were in your own room. I could carry you to it?" His smile was wide as he spoke.

"I need sleep, we leave first thing tomorrow morning. So do something useful and get a healing potion from the nurse." At her words Demarcus let out a dramatic sigh and left to go get a potion. Ciall watched him leave and thought to herself.

'Maybe if had some alone time with him it will help me relax.' She thought, recalling the memory of the monstrous wolf she would have to face. She wished the Keeper would send someone else and she could just spend her time healing, but she knew the amount of gold she could earn from the pair would last her for the rest of her life.

When Demarcus returned she took the potion and took a sip.

"Perhaps you could help me take a bath," she said and Demarcus smiled.

"I will get one ready right away," he said with a wink before taking off. She sipped the potion until the cup was empty. A small smile graced her lips as she set the cup down.
