3 Second Chances Doesn’t Always Have Good Endings

Andrea was reborn as Euka, a fox spirit. Unlike her previous life though, where she was good at almost anything she does, Euka was the opposite. The fox spirits boasted their high aptitude for magic and strong magical abilities, but Euka couldn't use magic as well as her peers. Despite being born into the Fox Clan's royal family, her aptitude for magic was too low.

Euka was quite aware that it was useless focusing on what she was not good at, so she didn't bother mastering magical skills, instead she cultivated combat and medical skills. She just couldn't believe her knowledge as a surgeon in her previous life was so useful. She only had to learn to make medicine using herbs, and maybe even poison, and she was technically a healer.

Even though she lacked magical skills, her family didn't abandon her. They supported her in her endeavor of pursuing a medical career. Euka was quite glad at this. Her current parents were strict, after all they were rulers, but they still let their children stand in their own two feet and let them decide what they wanted in life, as long as it wasn't considered evil. Plus her current brothers, she had eight of them; six older brothers and one younger brother, were pretty good to be with.

When she was three thousand years old, while gathering herbs in the human realm, she met an old man that was living inside a cave. She wondered who the old man was but he looked pitiful and decided to help him.

The mysterious old man was named Lanez. He said he was some sort of guardian and had been inside the cave for hundreds of thousands of years.

"Isn't it lonely?" she asked.

Old man Lanez only smiled whenever she asked that question. She visited him quite often after that and the two slowly became friends.

"By the way Euka, your ability to process natural power and do magic seem a bit weak." Lanez suddenly asked one time.

Euka couldn't help but click her tongue in displeasure and Lanez noticed it. He only laughed which only irked her more.

"But you have a skill which you haven't awakened yet."

She paused. "What do you mean?"

"Let me ask you a question." she nodded. "What is magic?"

"Magic is the process where the user gathers the natural power around him and uses his body as the medium. Its product will be the spells they cast."

"That's right. Although, what most people misunderstand is that, increasing only one's aptitude to do that process is not enough to cast big spells."

"So?"

"But there are people who have no aptitude at all and are hopeless at it."

"Tch."

"But that doesn't mean they're entirely useless. I mean, you're cultivating to be a doctor right?"

"I am. It's the only thing I can do."

"But you have a strong body."

"I also practice combat."

"I see. Well, that's one. If a person cannot perform magic, then do combat and cultivate internal energy."

Euka couldn't help but pause a bit. She remembered a certain idea that resembled what Lanez was saying from her previous life.

"So, combat magic. It uses one's personal energy." she said.

"You can also call it that. But there are those who have a unique set of power, and it's a power they are born with." Lanez said, sounding a bit mysterious.

"What would that be?"

"There are those that are born with the ability to control natural power itself."

Euka was a bit confused. Somehow the topic was getting more complicated.

"What do you mean?"

"What I mean is, using the natural power around us itself instead of processing them using the body as a medium and using it as a source for a spell."

She somehow understood it.

"It's called spiritual power."

"That name sucks." she commented.

"Probably, we had no better ideas back in the day."

"You're pretty ancient if you tell me." Euka sighed but caught the knowing look Lanez was giving her. "Wait… Are you saying I have the ability to do that? I can control natural power?"

Lanez nodded.

"Has it never manifested before?" he asked.

"I don't think so. I mean, I, wait is that the reason I don't have the aptitude for magic?"

"Yes. You're born to control the natural power not process them. Plus, among everything in the world, natural power is the only thing that has no master. It's a free-flowing energy source almost everyone can use." he explained. "Even the gods depend on it to make their great feats. They only do it much better than other creatures since their processing speed and the amount they can process is much greater."

"This talk reminds me of gadgets." she muttered. "If that's the case, I should've paid attention to those technological mumbo-jumbos back then."

"What was that?"

"Nothing. By the way, you were able to identify my aptitude for it. Does that mean you can do it as well?"

"Definitely."

"Then teach me."

Lanez saw the determination of the young fox immortal's eyes. And he was sure that she could do great things in the future and maybe, help him in breaking his curse.

Euka began her training in cultivating her spiritual power and learn to control natural power. Both her and her mentor, Lanez, were surprised at the speed she was mastering the skills she was taught. After learning them, she realized that the biggest factor to manipulate the natural power was visualization. It was an advantage for her because she was good it.

The members of the fox clan and even other beings and creatures, just like the gods, were very surprised when Euka was suddenly wrapped in a powerful aura. Every time she returned from the human realm, she became stronger. Some were happy that she was finally able to have some sort of power. They were curious and asked her, but Euka promised Lanez that she would keep it a secret.

Of course, some also became fearful at Euka's growing potential, especially the King of the gods, Ceviuq, who found the power around her familiar.

"Send someone to Jade Mountain and check on Lanez." Ceviuq ordered.

A few days later…

"Your majesty, Lanez is still in the cave but his power is waning. I'm afraid the seal is weakening and Lyga might escape her prison soon."

"What?!"

Lyga was a primordial goddess that wreaked havoc in the world almost a million years ago. She was the first demon and the mother and goddess of all demons. Seven primordial gods did their best to seal her during their struggle all those years ago. Lanez, Lyga's son and was the first Demon King, was locked in Jade Mountain to serve as the seal of his own mother.

Ceviuq and the world were in a predicament, and somehow the fox clan princess, Euka, had something to do with it.
