1 Prologue: The Demise of the Black Sovereign

In the world of Vastia, there was a very powerful and cruel villainess; the Black Sovereign.

The Black Sovereign, Euka, was a fallen fox goddess that led the demons into war against the gods and the humans. She was cruel and heartless, and according to those that had seen her in action, a total psychopath. She would kill anyone in her way, whether they were mortals or immortals. Not even the demons that served under her could get away. She was branded as the worst villainess in both the mortal and celestial realms.

It was the ninety-seventh year of the Imperial Calendar. The six champions of the humans led by the Hero chosen by the gods faced off against the Black Sovereign in a decisive battle.

The Black Sovereign, together with her six generals, faced off the champions sent by the humans and the gods.

This fearsome battle would decide the future of Vastia; would it be ruled by the demons and be plunged into darkness? Or will the champions and the Hero defeat the villain and restore the peace that was robbed from them?

Unfortunately, for the sake of their leader and their cause, the six generals of the Black Sovereign perished in the hands of the human champions. Meanwhile, the Black Sovereign was weakened due to clashing with the Hero who wielded the power of divine light.

The champions surrounded the weakened monarch. She wasn't even grieving by the death of her army and her generals. She definitely looked like a being with no feeling of remorse.

"Do you really think you can destroy me that easily?" she asked in a mocking tone. "You're delusional."

"You're the one being delusional Black Sovereign." retorted one of the champions, the mage.

The Black Sovereign just laughed heartily. With a burst of power, her black nine-tails with white tips, emerged from behind her and her power grew.

"You weren't even fighting me at your full power?" asked the Hero in disbelief.

"Just because you were chosen by the gods and has somehow become crazily strong, that doesn't mean everything." she sneered. "Do you know what the gods will do if you succeed? They will wipe you guys out for they fear your power. And if you fail, they're going to cause the apocalypse and collapse the world anyway."

"You're lying!" exclaimed the youngest looking who was wielding a bow.

"Hahaha!!! Never believe in deities, humans. They have a different agenda than you guys."

The one in full armor and a long sword immediately lunged at the Black Sovereign. She parried his attack with her own twin swords and pushed him off. He skidded a few meters before he regained his footing. The champions started attacking her at the same time and she did really well in deflecting their attacks.

The Black Sovereign Euka leaped up and used a levitating spell to stay afloat. Using her own mysterious ability, the mystic arts, she formed a ball of energy and launched it on the champions.

The champions braced themselves, but the mage immediately created a barrier which was then strengthened by the caster of the group. The two protected the rest of the champions and the hero, at the cost of their lives. Taking advantage at the stupor, the Black Sovereign took the opportunity to kill the other champions. She coated her swords with energy and launched herself to the group.

A large explosion happened which blew off a chunk of the land. The nearby seawater rolled to the newly created bank where only the Black Sovereign and the Hero remained. Nobody else could be seen, not even the corpses of the other champions remained.

"You killed them." stated the Hero in disbelief. "How could you-"

"Either kill or be killed. You know that Celan."

"You used to be a goddess that loved humans."

"And it was also the humans that made me fall." she said with gritted teeth.

The Black Sovereign knew she was even weaker at the moment since the attack she just made took a toll on her body and power. She immediately made a stance in front of the Hero, ready to attack.

"If only we met at a different situation. Even at a different life." she said.

"Alas, this is how it's supposed to end." replied the Hero.

The Hero was suddenly engulfed in bright light and a powerful energy. The two lunged at the same time and crossed swords for a few moments. In the blink of an eye, with one last powerful attack, the Hero's sword pierced the heart of the Black Sovereign. She fell to the ground with blood dribbling from her mouth. But even with that, there was a smile on her face.

"So… it's a draw." she said.

The Hero glanced at his abdomen where one of her swords pierced through. He also fell to the ground in the same situation.

"Euka… I-"

"Don't bother. We're not going to survive this anyway. And I'm pretty sure this is the result they were hoping." she snorted. "How annoying. That guy probably has that annoying smile on his face right now."

"This is-"

"Hn! Maybe somewhere out there, in another world or in another life, we lived differently and happily." she paused. "No, I'm pretty sure we did."

"Maybe."

With her remaining strength, the Black Sovereign sighed and light left her eyes. Her body turned into small orbs of light and drifted into the skies. The Hero also took his last breath…

Reminder: Even though I have published six chapters already, I won't be updating this story regularly anytime soon. I still have to finish up my other story. I'm just testing the waters with this attempt. Still, I hope you'll find it a good story and interesting too.
