3 The Laws of the Forest

"I have to be more quite, or the prey will notice me" thought the welp as he used is sharp claws to perch on top of a tree. To the little welps dismay however over the past three days it had failed time and time again to find and kill an prey, having to scavenge from Scar's kills the leopard like magic beast he had met on his first day named so by the welp on account for all the marks found on its body. The strength coming from Scar deeply frightened him, just one glance and he could tell that a fight with Scar would be over within seconds if it ever took place not to mention what would happen if Scar snuck up on him when he had his guard down.

"I got to spread my wait evenly on this branch or else its going to alert them by creating noise putting them them on guard. I'm to close now to fail Scar's also noticing his foods being eaten can't risk stealing any more." As he was thinking this one of the dear started to walk toward his tree, this was not by chance ether as the welp had noticed that the bushes around this tree were displaying bright and succulent fruit naturally attracting any potential prey right below him and into the killing zone.

"Now!" the welp screamed within his head as he jumped down from his branch landing on the poor animal attracted to the nutritious food the welp had used as bate. "dam it is hide is so hard, what is this stuff made of" the welp though as he was desperately trying to hold onto the deer's back just missing his true target the neck while it tried bucking him off. "Almost their just got to get closer to this things neck" the welp continued the inch closer to the neck off the deer his weight helping to exhaust the deers strength as it put up less of a fight as time progressed. Of course the welp was no longer just three feet long during the time he spent within the cave he had grown rapidly and was now four and a half from head to tail. "Yes this things neck is so soft just gotta keep clamping down on it and i finally win" joy was speeding through the welp as he stuck to the dear like his life depended on it.

As the deer drew its last breath the welp delighted in his harvest, "Scar really is a glutton he almost never leaves any meat after he's done eating, there only ever a few scrapes." the welp said to himself as he rapidly started to devour the feast that lay before him. He was so focused on his feast that he let his guard down, all he could think about was stuffing his belly with as much food as it could take in. He was so preoccupied that he never notice a sinister aura approaching him until it was to late.

Crack, a sudden hit to the back of the welps head sent him flying towards the trunk of a massive tree, temporally stunning him and leaving him wide open for attack. But then their was nothing as the welp lay there helplessly frightened to death. There was nothing except complete silence as nothing could be heard but the crunching of bones and the ripping of flesh as his attacker left him there holding him in no regard as if he didn't even register on its radar and went to reap the rewards of the welps hard work.

" Shit what was that, I can't move my head right now to see what ever hit me! Its even ignoring me and eating my food, dam it that was the only time i was able to kill my prey before it noticed my and ran away. Now all my hard work is being eaten by whatever that thing is, I didn't even notice it approaching it left no sounds or smells for me to pick up until it was right on top of me." Many thoughts kept spiralling through the welps head as it lay there defenceless praying that its attacker would be satisfied with his kill and not turn its eyes onto him before he could recover from his stun and flee away from the seen.

Luckily for the welp dragons had powerful defences along with frightening constitutions, with there scales even without the assistance of their magic could absorb large amounts of damage so he suffered so real damage but this encounter left a deep impression within his heart. Sadly for the welp the world liked to balance things out, for all the blessing the dragon races had they would gain tremendous appetites where if a young welp didn't consume enough meat its growth would be stunted and they would rapidly waste away. This was also true for adults to but to a lesser extent as they grew much slower in their later years until they finally died.

His own biology working agents him the welp eventually got up with his monstrous constitution helping him recover much faster than a normal beast with the same strength and rank as him would take. " That glutton, there isn't even a scrap left from my kill even the bones have been cracked leaving no marrow for me!" It was pretty ironic for this welp to call that beat a glutton, because if he had his way he would like to eat three of those dear fur, meat, bones and any thing else edible on them.

The little welp shamelessly decided to eat the few bones and pieces of hide that were left after his attacker was finished with his meal. "Well then if i remember correctly the rest of group went south better hurry up before they get to far away." With his hopes still up the welp made his way deeper into the forest constantly sticking to the tree tops using his tiny wings to glide from brach to branch. " I got to be more quiet and keep my guard up don't want another repeat of last time, that group of prey couldn't have gotten far when i was watching them they seemed so weak with their only defence being that tough hide of their's."

As he approached another herd of prey he noticed one of them was having trouble walking. " Hmm might have broken its leg, that will make a perfect target! Its practically serving its self for me with it having no way to run away." The welp used its tiny wings to glide from brach to brach like a tiny little reaper closing in on the weakened animal growing more exited as he smelled the blood seeping from the wound. His wings had grown quite a bit these past few days each being about a foot and a half long, they were still to weak to help him fly but they still helped with his mobility atop the tree canopy where he felt especially safe.

"This should be close enough for me to drop down on it." The welp guessed the trajectory as he distributed his weight evenly on the branch as to not make a sound when he leaped. Luckily for the welp he was able to each onto the neck of the deer this time without it noticing, with the help of gravity and the mass of a four and a half for baby welp nearly fractured the neck of the dear as it wasn't even a rank one magic beast but a normal animal. With the deer traumatized by the impact of the welp the follow up for him was extremely easy and the welp made quick work of the helpless dear.

"Its not safe down hear maybe I should take my food up into the trees so I'm safer from that thing that attacked me earlier." The welp found it surprisingly easy to cary the deer into the tree with his claws dining into the wood and his powerful legs assisting him to cary the corps. " this should be high enough for me to star eating" the welp though as he prepared to stuff his gaping maw with the succulent and tender flesh of the deer.

"crack" Suddenly the welp herd a sound coming from the bushes near the spot he had killed the deer a large beast came out of them it had two giant fangs protruding from its mouth and a dark brown body, pointed ears and retractable claws on all four of its legs it looked similar to Scar but was smaller, different colour and seemed to be much weaker. "Its attracted by the the sent of blood on the ground where I made the kill" the welp anxiously though trying to be as quiet as possible not wanting to give away his location and the location of his precious diner.

"It seems to be going away" the welp was overjoyed at the though of being able to finally eat his food till he him self was full and not just living off scraps. "This place is really dangerous it hasn't been a minute and something already came to check out the smell of a kill." The welp couldn't help but have cold sweat run down his back as he finally enjoyed his full meal as the sun set.
