Special Treatment

After the crow explained the reason for my resurrection, I found myself even more confused. It seemed that, for him, my actions were merely a form of entertainment. Perhaps, being non-human, he couldn't fully grasp the depth of what I was fighting for. Nevertheless, I was okay with that. The important thing was that he had given me another chance at life and bestowed upon me a unique ability to challenge and reform the societal system.

The next day was the weekend, so we had no work in our office. Somehow, we were given a break every Saturday and Sunday, allowing us to rest for two days.

Usually, I just take advantage of this break by playing any online game on my PC. However, for now, I am more interested in the ability I acquired. I turned on the TV, and at that time, there wasn't much news being broadcast about Joseph and his father.

While watching the live news on TV, I thought of an experiment I could do with my newfound ability. I took the card and tried to focus my gaze on the reporter speaking on TV. I was hoping I could control his thoughts, even if only through the television.

However, my experiment failed. Perhaps it would only work if I could actually see the person I wanted to control.

Sigh. I let out a deep sigh because I was excited about the possibility of the ability working even just on TV. Well, I accepted it since maybe my ability shouldn't be too overpowering.

Shortly after, there was a new report on TV. A man who massacred an entire family has been caught and is now in police custody. They are avoiding showing and interviewing him on TV. The remaining grandmother was also shown, crying uncontrollably due to the loss of her entire family.

The police are on TV again, boasting as if they made a significant contribution to the suspect's capture. I can't help but notice how they are going all out to protect the suspect. They even mentioned that the legal process will still go through the court for this case.

"Legal process?" I exclaimed loudly out of frustration as I watched. I searched on social media for videos circulating, claiming to be CCTV footage showing the drugged man mercilessly killing the elderly person's entire family just because he was high on drugs.

"You law enforcers are really a bunch of jerks!" I angrily shouted at the TV in front of me while watching.

And since it's the weekend, I have plenty of time for some unconventional activities. Instead of playing games on my PC all day, I thought of doing something more interesting, marked by a mischievous smile.

I opened my cabinet and put on my thick black jacket. I covered my head and wore a face mask to ensure that my identity isn't easily recognizable. "Hmm," I murmured while looking in the mirror, making sure my appearance was alright. I took the tarot card and placed it in the pocket of my jacket.

"Okay, it's time to reduce the number of bad people in the world again. But this time, I'll make sure the whole world knows that I exist. I will correct the broken laws in the society."

I walked out of my apartment and headed to a nearby bus station in our area. Shortly after, a bus arrived that would pass through an area close to the prison and police station.

While on the bus, I put on my earphones, calming myself by listening to music from my playlist. "What I've Done" by Linkin Park played. "No matter how long this song has been around, it still resonates with me more than the new songs nowadays that seem to lack meaningful lyrics," I sighed.

While peacefully listening to my music, the bus stopped, and a mother with two seemingly mischievous and unruly kids boarded. I tried to ignore them, looking out the window, but the kids were so bothersome. They happened to be sitting in front of me, peeking over the seat and repeatedly kicking it to disturb me.

I was getting increasingly annoyed, but I restrained myself from engaging with them. They were just kids, and I knew I'd attract attention if I confronted them. Then, an idea struck me, and I grinned maliciously.

I locked eyes with one of the kids, and with a sinister smile, I focused on trying to control his body. Soon enough, I found myself closing my eyes and leaning back, inhabiting the body of the troublesome child.

I first checked on my own body to ensure everything was fine; I appeared to be sleeping in my seat. While controlling the unruly kid's body, I gave a strong smack to his sibling's head, causing them to burst into tears.

While in the child's body, I laughed at his sibling who cried and got scolded by their mother. It didn't take long before I regained control over my own body.

Observing the scene, I couldn't help but find satisfaction in seeing a spoiled child cry. The mother was reprimanding the mischievous kid, who was sobbing loudly. I chuckled at the situation, thinking that disciplining such children early on would save their parents from significant problems as they grew older.

I got too absorbed in my mischievous act with the unruly child on the bus, and it wasn't until I looked out the window that I realized it was my stop.

Upon disembarking, I saw the police station, my intended destination. I donned my jacket and walked slowly until I reached the front of the police station.

A police officer guarding the entrance approached me, asked for my ID, and inquired about my purpose at the station. Without further ado, I utilized one of the effects of my tarot card.

"Crows Count: 1 Effect: You can control anyone's brain for three minutes." I manipulated the guard's mind and asked him about the name of the man involved in the recent massacre case at their precinct.

Due to the immediate effect of my ability, he answered promptly, providing the name, "Red Scaver."

With the immediate acquisition of the name of the individual behind the gruesome family massacre, Red Scaver, I also inquired about the location of the prison where I could find him. The police pointed me in the right direction, and as a final request, I instructed the guard that if anyone asked why I was there, he should say I was one of Red's lawyers. The police, having fooled the others into thinking I was a lawyer, allowed me to proceed directly to the precinct area where the prisoners were held.

When the guard returned to his post, precisely three minutes had passed since the effect of my ability on him. The guard was surprised, pondering why his position in guarding seemed different, but he chose to dismiss it. As for me, I continued walking inside the precinct.

Upon entering, two police officers were standing guard in front of the cell, treating the notorious Red as if he were a VIP. "They really treat people with money differently."

Meanwhile, other prisoners were crowded inside the cell, sweating profusely, helpless in their situation. A guard asked me why I was there and what my reason was. I told them I was Red's lawyer and had come to speak with him. The guard requested that I remove my face mask, but I refused to do so, fearing they might remember my face. Fortunately, a police officer on radio duty vouched for me, saying, "That's Boss Red's lawyer. Let him in; we might get into trouble." The guarding police immediately opened the door for me. In my thoughts, "Boss Red?" It seemed even the police called these worthless individuals 'boss.'

Finally, I entered his VIP cell. I was quite nervous earlier because I didn't expect my plan to infiltrate the precinct to work. But I also couldn't believe how smoothly everything went in the process of invading this precinct. The security of the police is indeed lax when it comes to those they treat as special, especially worthless rich people like Red.

As we faced each other, I was seething with anger and irritation at the sight of his circumstances. He was just sitting on his bed provided by the police, holding a vape and blowing smoke. There was also a woman beside him, both of them wrapped in towels, staring at me. My blood was already boiling at the special treatment they were receiving, especially considering he heartlessly killed an entire family, and yet here he was in such a situation, seemingly without a trace of remorse for his actions.

"What do you need? Are you the lawyer my dad sent?" were his first words to me. He was instructing the woman beside him to leave for a while. The woman stood up, seemingly indifferent, and walked past me on her way out of the precinct.

"What? Speak up!" Red demanded in a raised tone, eager to know why I was there. I just laughed—a laughter mixed with irritation and a hint of malicious satisfaction, as if I had some sinister plan in mind. I looked him in the eyes, adding, "Make the most of your remaining time."
