The One You Abandoned

On your way to the light, you begin to hear muffled cries echo through the darkness. At first, they were but a whisper but as you grew closer and closer, and the light grew brighter and brighter so did the cries grow louder.

At first, you ignored it, you thought it was just all in your head, you thought that the ominous darkness might be messing with your head.

But as the cries got louder there was no denying that it wasn't your mind playing tricks on you.

'Who the hell is crying, it sounds like a child but what the hell would a little kid be doing here...now that I think about it I don't even know where I am, I just woke up here after I blacked out.'

'Maybe this is purgatory it would make sense, I think I read that the mages who die will be judged in purgatory and that is where they decide if they are good or bad, hopefully, I'm wrong.'

(Nope you're wrong this isn't purgatory.)

The cries stopped as the voice once again spoke through muffled sobs.

"Thx, wait how can you hear me?"

You cautiously check your surroundings as you look for where the childlike voice was coming from.

(Mommy , I'm behind you!)

You turn around to see a little boy who doesn't even look half your age, his hair is a Dark black closely resembling yours, his eyes are very strange though it first appeared that one of his eyes were the same color as your's a dark emerald green while the other was a dark crimson red, though this quickly changed his eyes began switching colors, when one was green the other was red and when the other was red it too changed to green; one was never the same color as the other. His skin complexion mirrored your as did some of his facial features though somewhere, not your own and were completely unrecognizable.

"Did you just call me mom?"

(Yes what else would I call you?)

The child reached his arms up towards you as if beckoning you to pick him up.

(Mommy I wanna go up!)

You smile at the child as you pick him up and hold him close, you can barely control your emotions.

This is the first sign of human contact you have had in what felt like days.

His small warm body helped comfort you on your journey through the darkness.

"Hey!"

(Yes Mommy?)

"Earlier you said that this wasn't purgatory if this isn't purgatory where are we?"

The kid pause for a moment as he hums a cheerful tune as he nods his head side to side stroking his invisible beard.

(We are in your mana realm Mommy don't you remember though it is darker then it was last time you were here .)

"Do you know why it's dark?"

The boy shakes his head (No, but that light appeared a few weeks ago and ever since then it's been really dark.)

"So I guess we're heading for the Light then."

The boy smiles from ear to ear as you once again begin your walk towards the light.
