1 Awakening

Vladimir's eyes suddenly opened. The place was pitch-black, and a normal human could not see more than one palm. But for Vladimir, everything was as clear as day.

All of his memories were blurry, but it did not take long for him to understand what had happened. The church managed to perform some ritual, putting him to sleep inside a stone tumb.

One thing was amiss. Everything looked old, and spider webs were everywhere. Vladimir's first thought was that he had spent a lot of time locked in that place. Which was, unfortunately, a fact.

Once he got up from the harsh stone tumb, he noticed something, frowning his eyebrows, visibly angry.

'Why is my body so weak? It is like I'm a vampire fledgling again. Don't tell me the church also took my powers away? Damn it,' thought Vladimir as he stood up, barely. The only reason he was still alive after so long was due to his immense powers. Normal vampires would resist for a long time without blood, but eventually, they would die.

Stumbling up at each step, Vladimir tried his best to find the way out of that place. That did not prove to be an easy task. It seemed that something else was built above it, which made Vladimir wonder who would build something above a church.

The tiny corridor made Vladimir uncomfortable, but at least a staircase stood at the end of it, and that was possibly the way out of that place. Going upstairs, a door made of a gray material stood in his way. He had never seen anything like that. Vladimir assumed some blacksmith created a door made of steel, but that was something he never thought would work.

The door had a handle on it, but it was locked with chains. Vladimir concentrated all of his remaining power to bust that thing open, leaving the abandoned church. He thought about many places that would stand behind that door, but what he saw was something peculiar.

Another staircase, and after that, multiple doors with numbers on it. Everything looked strange to him, and at that moment he was sure that a long time had passed since he was attacked by the church.

With his supernatural hearing, multiple voices could be heard. He knew that behind each door were humans, and they could be a threat to him in this weakened state.

Vladimir walked through the halls, choosing a door that had no voice behind it. The reason for that was that if no one was talking, it meant they lived alone, which would make everything easier for him.

Three knocks. It did not take long for someone to answer it. Vladimir noticed that the clothes the human was using were entirely different from the ones back in his day. For him, that was a good thing, as clothes at that time weren't particularly good-looking.

The person who answered was a beautiful woman, with a well-proportioned body, and soft black hair. Vladimir got stunned for a moment seeing how beautiful the lady was, but he soon recomposed himself.

Well, the lady on the other hand, found the clothes Vladimir was wearing somewhat strange, but she remembered all the crazy stuff she had seen on television lately that she did not even ask.

"Can I help you?" she asked.

Vampires could not enter places they were not invited. Vladimir did not know how he could walk in the halls of that place, maybe he somehow found a loophole, anyway. She would not let him enter as they both did not know each other, so the best plan of action was to simply use his mind powers and force her to let him in.

Vladimir was still weak as he had not fed, but performing these basic vampire powers was something he could do at any stage. She quickly let him in, closing the doors behind them.

The things inside the apartment were completely strange to Vladimir. He knew some things like the furniture, but the electronic stuff was all unknown to him. The mind control proved to be efficient, as his sharp fangs pierced through the neck of that young lady.

Blood dripped, and Vladimir sucked in a lot of blood. The woman moaned in pleasure. She liked that, and if Vladimir had x-ray vision, he would notice something peculiar down there...

After feeding, he waited for her to bandage that biting mark before asking more questions. She obediently asked everything and spilled a lot of information to him. Vladimir was an intelligent man, and being a vampire also increased all of his capabilities, so he understood most of the things about this new era. The woman was called Vanessa, and she proved to be efficient in teaching Vladimir how to use these new devices, such as cellphone, laptops, microwaves, and everything else.

The thing that got the most of his attention was the fact that humans now had superpowers, and strange beasts roamed the Earth. Vanessa was not someone with a superpower, as not every human mutated to have one, but still, she saw a lot about that on television.

Adjusting to everything would take some time, at least a week, so Vladimir decided to stay with her for that time being, and roam not too far from the apartment. Vanessa seemed like a good person, and Vladimir felt bad for controlling her mind. Hopefully, she would understand why he had to do that in the future, but it was unlikely.

"So, Vladimir. Why do you know so little about this world? Are you an alien? With all of these superhumans roaming around I don't think being an alien would be impossible," Vanessa asked, as they both sat on the couch.

"Alien? What's that? Anyway, I'm from here. The reason for my lack of information is that I'm a vampire that got locked by the church for who knows how long," Vladimir did not mind telling her that, as he could wipe her memories at any time.

"You're joking right?" Vanessa asked, and when she noticed that Vladimir was serious about that, she burst into excitement.

"Like those vampires from the movies? Can you walk during the day? Can you turn into a bat? Can you show me your teeth? How does garlic taste to you? Can you..."

'Well, this is going to take a while...'
