7 The Great Counsel's Uproar

Aleklec positioned his floating throne close enough to look directly at Slagar's features. Yet despite Slagar having to look up at Aleklec due to his throne, he was not intimidated. He had just spent the past 5 years with a being beyond comprehension and now that he has come back, the impact is not as great.

"Honored One, I have important news for the Great Counsel. I must ask for a meeting with the members immediately. And for your question, I am Slagar, the project lead of the Pyramid Gate project." Slagar answered calmly.

Aleklec watched Slagar's every movement and body language with psychic technique, coming to a strange conclusion. Slagar was not in awe of him, nor any of the Great Counsel. This was quite odd at this point in time since it had been ingrained in Old One culture for hatchlings since birth about the importance of the Honored One in their society. He wondered about what could possibly make Slagar's body language and subconscious thought, think that he was at an equal standing to them.

"Interesting. I can call a meeting immediately" Aleklec expressed his agreement.

He motioned for the nearby scientists and guards to bring over a chair for Slagar to sit in, while he prepared for an emergency psychic meeting in an Immaterium subspace. He quickly received a response from the other members of the Great Counsel and linked Slagar's mind to the meeting subspace.

Slagar's vision darkened before he reappeared inside a small bubble-like room made of bronze energies. He recognized the swirling energies as the same ones he had been familiar with for the last 5 years, they were the energy of the Immaterium.

Five other mental projections appeared in this small subspace, each outlining in bronze-red colored silhouettes. The five of them nodded to each other and spoke some simple greetings, before focusing on Slagar.

"Impossible! You should be dead." Gorvor stood up from his mentally projected throne at the sight of Slagar.

"Indeed, I should be." Slagar agreed with a smile.

"But here I am." He said, playfully.

He realized he might have picked up some of his teacher's playful habits over the years.

"So, you... how did you survive?" Gorvor asked the question all the members of the Great Counsel were thinking.

Slagar then went on to explain his meeting with the Great Spirit Arlow, who took him in as a student due to loneliness. He sustained him from being eroded by the Immaterium and taught him many technologies that were far beyond their current understanding. The Great Counsel reacted considerably to all this news.

First, they had to approach what Slagar said with caution, suspecting mental hallucinations or issues that could have prevented an accurate recall of his situation. But when Slagar spoke about the technologies he learned under Arlow's tutilage, they had no reason not to believe him. The methods and arts of Immaterium manipulation were far more refined than their current ones, perhaps multiple centuries advanced.

When Slagar mentioned how Arlow was impressed by their race's title technology, Gorvor was excited about meeting Arlow as well. And when Slagar mentioned the Quantum-matter technology, the members of the Great Counsel were all hissing and jumping around in agitation. Gorvor was the most excited out of them all, since the Great Spirit who had praised his own title technology, could be considered a respected peer.

The topic moved then onward to the Great Counsel prodding for details about the Great Spirit Arlow's motives. But the answer left most of them at a loss of how to respond, and they wouldn't believe it. Slagar had told them that Arlow didn't need anything from them. He said he had watched them for a long time and wanted to meet them. When he saw that Slagar was a likable company, he taught him as a student.

"What kind of noble character is this?! Ridiculous! He must have some motive." Aleklec voiced his concerns.

"No, Teacher is very pure-hearted," Slagar said in Arlow's defense.

"Well, continue your debriefing," Gorvor said, motioning for him to continue, not caring too much about Arlow's motives.

Slagar then talked about the seemingly endless silver seas of Quantum-Matter Arlow created over a long period. He also mentioned the time he visited the crystalized star-like titles of the Honored Ones among the sands and the suppression of their psychic energies. This caused many of the Counsel members to frown and remain silent, while Gorvor frowned the most deeply. He had always felt that the psychic title technology was accumulating too slowly, and now he understood the reason.

"Will the Great Spirit release the suppression after some time?" Gorvor asked with confusion.

"Yes, when I asked him why it was necessary, he mentioned that it was to support a healthy psyche of a growing civilization. So many of the evil thoughts do not affect ourselves in a feedback loop." Slagar answered Gorvor's question.

"That... makes a lot of sense," Gorvor said, sighing in understanding.

"We might have made a fool of ourselves without limiting unrestrained belief and its effects on ourselves. Thankfully, the Great Spirit suppressed our 'growing pains' of civilization." Gorvor commented.

"I thought the same thing," Slagar commented, smiling at Gorvor.

Others perhaps had some questions about why exactly this suppression was necessary, but seeing Gorvor's attitude they couldn't bring themselves to ask them. Meanwhile, Slagar found Gorvor was quite knowledgeable and accepting of his explanations. He thought he might get along with him quite well in the future.

"What is the Great Spirit doing now then? Still watching us?" Aleklec asked, with some uneasiness in his voice.

"I'm not sure. He mentioned there were unwanted beings he needed to take care of." Slagar answered, with uncertainty.

"Hmm. Let's end this meeting and reconvene after this." Gorvor prompted.

With a few murmurs of agreement, the projections ended one at a time. Slagar's vision faced the familiar blackness before he awoke in front of Aleklec inside the Pyramid of Alintor.
