11 The End Of The War

Once we made it to our assigned room, I began staring at the roof blankly, thinking about just how much longer I had left to live and exactly under what condition my family was living in, after all the media hadn't covered anything related to Peruvian living conditions, so the media still left me in the dark like everyone else.

As for the comment that Josue had made to try and alleviate my stress, although I didn't believe a word he said, and I'm pretty sure he didn't either, I was still really grateful that despite the situation, he still went out of his way to make sure that I was ok, especially considering that he had had it worse than me as from what he had told me he didn't have anyone to help him the second he entered the battlefield.

Despite how nice he was, though, he wasn't naive; in fact, I was pretty sure that he was some sort of super genius as he never seemed to be surprised by anything that happened around him.

He seemed to know everything that would happen before it did almost to a T and could use it to his advantage.

But unlike what one would expect, he actually used it to help people out; for example, when we were on our way to the room, he knew that I really needed to hear some words of encouragement and some sort of confirmation that there was a chance that we would make it out of the complex and go back home.

He managed to word everything I had heard from the TV broadcast in such a way where it seemed that there was actually hope.

Even if we did manage to make it back home though there was no point in thinking of it as paradise as the government would still be as corrupt, if not more corrupt than it was before the war, the US would still control the water coming from the Amazon river, and the quantity of drinkable water in the world would still inevitable continue to diminish.

Plus, although the war had not yet had the usage of weapons as strong or stronger than nukes, the amount of coal that was being produced not only to obtain the electricity to keep the machinery going but also the smoke created when enemies destroyed them was still taking a rather heavy toll on the ozone layer.

June 8th, 2032:

A lot of things happened since more than a month ago, with the scale clearly typing undeniably to the US' favor as the two communist powers had run out of steam long ago by now and had been getting pushed back at a rapid pace, with everything beginning with the day that the US was finally able to establish complete air superiority over Russia.

From there, the US focused heavily on blocking the influx of Chinese puppet state reinforcements that Russia had been receiving in mass, basically cutting off the only real source of power Russia still held onto excluding nuclear weapons, and so with a Russia starved from supplies, the troops of the European and Siberian front pushed into Russian territory until they were forced to surrender.

As for why they didn't use their nukes in a last-ditch attempt to try and get the US to negotiate peace, it was because they knew that at worst, all that would happen would be that the US would intercept the nukes, and the fallout would descent into Russian and Chinese land, making it pointless even to try.

Regarding the middle east, more specifically Turkey, although it had not been reported as much as the war, Turkey had actually slightly expanded its territory and also improved its economy by leaps and bounds mainly because European oil reserves had begun to run dry and Turkey was more than willing to supply.

As for China, its economy had gone to hell just like its industry as no one was really willing to buy the things they produced and Chinese industry still heavily relied on water to function, meaning that once the US destroyed its dams and its water supplies hit critical levels its factories were no longer able to produce as much as before.

Things were going well, so well in fact, that I was beginning to suspect that I would actually get to survive; I was still doubtful, of course, as it would be tough for the US to conceal everything they did if we were to be allowed out of the front lines. Still, it didn't hurt to have a smidgen of hope, especially when it came to surviving.

From there, the day went on as normal with me and the others who had not been sent to the front lines and had been ordered to stay here, basically just doing normal chores and being held under heavy surveillance; it didn't matter much to me though as I had begun to daydream about possibly making in out of the complex.

Before the day ended, though, the entire building began to shake, and all of our communication methods became useless as they would not even turn on anymore, and at first, I assumed that it was just an earthquake and an EMP. But once we were finally able to use our devices again, we could connect to a transmission, claiming that the end of times had come.

Despite all common sense and logic, China decided to unleash its nuclear warheads to kill people in the front lines and even targeted European countries. In other words, China basically decided that if it was going down, it was taking everyone else with it just because of its pride.

Needless to say, despite everything that the guards tried to do to keep us calm and obedient, nothing worked. After all, what was the point in listening to the people that put your lives at risk when you had basically received news that the world was coming to an end? It only took half an hour for the base to decent into an all-out brawl.
