Day 362 (Pt 4): The Promise

Maria opened her eyes as she yawned. She looked around her and saw John and Alice, both asleep. With her peripheral vision, she could see a photograph with a note beside it on the dresser and noticed that the window was open. Maria carefully stood up and got off the bed, hoping she wouldn't wake anyone else up. Completely ignoring the open window and the rope swaying in the wind, she carefully walked towards Alice's dresser and read the note before first.

She promptly put the note down and looked around and searched in all the drawers for an extra Post-it Note. Once she found one, she hastily wrote on it, stuck it on the dresser, and turned around. "AAA-!!!"

John quickly put his hand over Maria's mouth and told her to be quiet. "Shhh, she might hear us! C'mon, she's sleeping! You could have the decency to scream a little quieter, you know."

Maria smacked John's hand away and slapped him, "You scared me, so I screamed! Is that so hard to understand?! How did you even wake up anyway?"

"I think it's pretty obvious how I woke up." John stared at Maria with a face that said (Isn't it obvious?) "Wait, what is that?" John pointed at the note. "Is that what you were reading earlier?" He walked up to the note and picked it up. Once he finished reading it, he put it down and looked at Alice.

"C'mon, we should go downstairs. Alice's father is waiting for us." As John was walking out the door, he waved for Maria to follow. He waited for Maria to pass and walk down the stairs to walk back into the room and wrote down a couple of words before exiting the room again.

When John and Maria got to the bottom of the stairs, they saw Boris sitting down on the couch watching TV. "C'mon. We need to talk."

"So, did you sleep well up there?" John chuckled.

"Yeah, I think." Alice groaned as she rubbed her eyes.

"Wait, did you read the note that I left?" Maria questioned.

"Or the note from your dad?" John quickly waved his hand over his mouth once he began to yawn.

"We took a quick peek at what he said and-"

Alice yawned loudly and smacked her lips. She stared at John as if nothing had happened. "What?"

"As I was saying, we took a quick peek at what he said and I think that you should read it too because it-."

"Wait, does the note have anything to do with the photograph?" Alice asked.

"So that answers my question, I guess," John muttered. He turned around and saw Boris cooking something: he couldn't tell what exactly.

"Yeah, I guess it technically does have something to do with the picture. Now that you're awake, we can go look at it together!"

"I don't know. I feel like there's something I should do before I go back up there, but I don't know what." Alice pondered.

"Maybe it's eating breakfast!" Mr. Boris shouted from across the room. "It's already ready!"

"Wait, Dad, shouldn't Blyke eat with us?" Alice said as she walked over to the kitchen. "He'd be pretty mad, knowing him, if we left him out like that."

"No, he's asleep right now. Plus, he only ever eats cereal, and I'm pretty sure he can make that without my amazing cooking skills."

"You mean, lack thereof? Because that would make a lot more sense." Alice remarked. John and Maria laughed a little as they got ready to sit down.

"Ha, ha, very funny," Boris said sarcastically. Before he could make a comeback, they all heard a clamorous shout from upstairs.

*****************************************************************************************************

The only thing Blyke could hear was "I promise" repeating over and over again in his head. Slowly, the voice saying those words changed. To Blyke, the voice sounded like a distant yet somewhat familiar memory. He couldn't place his finger on it, but he knew that he'd heard this voice before.

The words then began to change along with the voice. No longer did the voice say, "I promise." The voice had now said, "I'll be back soon, I promise."

Suddenly, Blyke saw a bright white light flash in front of his eyes; however, he couldn't move: he could not scream, he could not struggle, he could not do anything. All he could do was see.

He now saw from the viewpoint of a young lady, and from that viewpoint, he saw his father, but younger. Boris was holding a baby boy in his arms and was begging for the young lady to stay. "I can't stay here, I must go now, I'm really sorry."

"No, please!" Blyke's father had cried out. "I can't do this on my own, I can't do things without you!"

"Things will be okay. You can do this on your own, I know you can. I believe in you." She walked over to Boris and gave him a quick kiss on the forehead. Boris's eyes quickly flashed white before going back to normal.

He quickly stuttered as he walked towards her. "B-Bu-But I don't! I can't!-"

She put her hand up and smiled. "Shh, shh, shh. It's okay. Everything is going to be okay. I will be back soon, I promise."

He sniffled, and then he managed to quietly spout. "Promise?"

She chuckled as she backed away and turned around. "I promise."

Things went white as his vision returned to normal. He blinked a couple of times, and Blyke couldn't believe what he had seen. He knew for a fact the people hugging him wouldn't believe what he thinks he had seen, least of all his sister. Even though he was surrounded by people, he still felt lonely.

Afterwards, Blyke was still pretty shaken up about his vision. From TV shows he had seen, visions were usually of the future, not from what had to be the past, about 9 or 10 years ago. He had no idea if it had any meaning or what even caused it. All he knew is that there was one person he could confide in.

This chapter is a little confusing so I used a layer of asterisks to show where the time skips were. Also, thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving!
