2 Chapter 2- Nine Tail

"Did you hear about the fight this morning?" "I heard Jayden got his ass beat!" "Wolf didn't even have to look to know he was coming at him!" The sounds of the hallway flooded my enhanced senses as I opened my locker door with the fingerprint scanner hidden within the fake lock.

"So I heard you got in another fight today Wolf." Fuck. It was Dwight. That asshole had continued to bug me and try to bully me ever since I started going here last year. "Fuck off Dwight. You know I have a class I need to attend."

Now Dwight was a regular human so he didn't know what class exactly I needed to get to. However, he had been following me around lately trying to find new ways of making my life miserable. In reality, I had been holding back the urge to punch him in the face and send his nose caving through his skull.

"Oh come on, bud! I'm just having a bit of fun with you. You did break a kid's nose after all." If he didn't get that smug look off his face he was gonna have a broken nose in a few minutes. "And even after that you still think it's a good idea to mess with me right now?" My eyes turned to glare at him while I placed my books into the locker. They weren't really for studying in my case. Just more of a way to keep my cover in place while I went through my unusual courses.

"Now, I suggest you back off before I break your nose too, " I said as I closed the locker door and discreetly checked to see if the lock was showing. I was certain that it was hidden the way it needed to be so that humans couldn't realize the lock, in fact, had a small area around the tumbler mechanism that was glass instead of plastic. That allowed the small fingerprint scanner to unlock the locked for us mutants while keeping humans out.

"Tch! You're just jealous cause people like me a whole lot more than you, Wolf." He drawled my nickname out sarcastically in order to mock me as I turned to face him. "Why do they even call you that anyway? I don't see the reason behind calling someone like you a Wolf."

That's it. This fucker wants to think he can just shit on me without any consequences! My eyes turned an orange amber, quite the contrast from my normal blue eyes, and my teeth slowly began to elongate. That is... until suddenly I felt a presence behind me I had never felt before. A sweet perfume reached my nose and immediately I had this calming feel wash over me, my eyes returning to normal while my teeth shrank. I turned around to spot a beautiful girl. She was 4'11", was wearing baggy sweatpants with a matching sweatshirt, and displayed a bright indigo streak through her blonde hair that reached down her back.

'Wow, ' I thought immediately as I stared at her for a moment. She had the locker right next to mine and began to open it before I realized Dwight was still standing there. Quickly, I turned to him and gave him my best glare. Apparently, it wasn't needed. He looked at me with such a look of fear already that he seemed to be pissing his pants. Shit! Did he see my transformations before I got ahold of myself?

Before I could say anything he had already ran off and left me alone in the hallway with the girl. Wait. Alone? Shit! I must have missed the bell like she did.

"You just gonna stand there or are you gonna head to class?" A voice from behind as sweet as honey reached my ears and made me feel warm inside. I turned to look at the girl and gave a soft smile towards her as I leaned against the lockers.

"Sorry. I was just captivated by your perfume for a moment. I thought I had smelt it before. Heh, silly me." She had soft features around her face that gave her a smooth complexion and complimented her slim frame. Obviously, I kept my eyes away from her body as best I could but, well, I am part animal after all. I couldn't help but notice the nice curves that her body accentuated even through the sweatpants and sweatshirt.

"So I haven't seen you around here before. You just move here? My name is Garrett, but most people call me Wolf." She didn't seem amused by me. If anything she seemed annoyed by my presence. Ouch. First time that's happened. "Nora. Just came here for the medical courses. And that's not perfume you smell. Down boy." I was surprised by her overconfidence, but most of all I was confused by what she said. She wasn't wearing perfume? And did she just say 'down boy'?

I took another sniff of the air and realized that she wasn't wearing any perfume after all. Matter of fact that was her natural scent.

"So you're a mutant too?" I said quietly as I realized how she knew what I was. She must be another variant with heightened smell or detection abilities as well. New mutants at the school weren't necessarily a rare thing but it was uncommon for new mutants to just appear in town out of nowhere.

"Got that right. Now I gotta get to my class. The instructor would be livid if a Nine-Tail of all people was late to her medical class."

Nine-Tail!? That was like a freight train to the gut. Nine-Tail mutants were extremely powerful healers that had secondary power sets that allowed them heightened senses as well as minor pyromancy. They were rare due to the healing abilities they wielded and we're considered to be gifts in the medical field.

I turned around to say something to her but she was already gone, down the hallway turning to head to her class. Well then, that was interesting. Although one thing did trouble me. Nine-Tails usually had tails that hung out of their clothing that The Principal could mask with his illusion abilities. She didn't have any though. There was only a singular outline down her leg that could have been a singular tail but not nine. 'What happened to you?' I thought to myself. This was going to be an interesting year.

Readjusting the backpack on my shoulders, I turned and started heading for the combat rooms with more questions than answers.
