7 Chapter 7

I cast a simper expression at Caeden's remark, and nodded, agreeing to the duel. Dany passed me the dagger she'd been wielding, now rebuilding itself up to its initial form before making contact with Caedens flesh just minutes earlier. Inok truly was a genius, and the weapons he created would rebuild themselves faster than ever before.

I positioned myself opposite of Caeden, taking an even, balanced stance. A bold look styled his delicate features, and he barreled towards me and chucked the dagger at my legs. I easily dodged it, and raised his thrown dagger behind my back, all while my hands were still in front of me. I released the dagger in my hand, and let both daggers float calmly behind my back. I then whipped both daggers with a mere thought, and flung them at his chest. Just before the connection to his body, the daggers melted into the floor as if they were made of liquid. As my eyes focused on the now melted daggers, I raised my gaze to an empty arena ahead of me. He was clever, but predictable.

I shut my eyes and felt the fragments of matter in the arena, placing where the heat of his body stood, and I pushed the air in front of him. The gust knocked him off of his feet, and Caeden flew into the wall directly behind him. I smiled coyly as he rose to his feet. It only took a few seconds before I realized the entire class had stopped what they were doing to watch our duel.

"You are truly an admiration." He grinned, tucking a stray piece of my dark locks behind my ear.

"And you are an excellent opponent." I beamed.

"Okay, that's enough for today," Kariah said. "I'll see you all on Monday, I expect everyone to be on time!" Her eyes met mine briefly, then danced to Dany's bright blue irises.

We scurried towards the exits of the training arena, and made our way to the food hall for dinner.

"There's a party in the west wing dorms tonight, and we're going." Dany said, and slumped onto one of the benches in the food hall. "But first, I am going to devour this meal."

"Another one? I'm still not completely recovered from the last one!" I joked, a giggle escaping me.

"You ladies have fun, I have some business to take care of with the Head Instructor." Caeden stated.

He gave me a quick kiss and left, most definitely on his way to the Instructors office. A sigh left my mouth, and Dany didn't hesitate one second - fixing on me with her 'there he goes again' look. I suddenly wasn't very excited about the party tonight.

"I'm telling you, his loyalty to that man is ridiculous. I mean, what does he get out of being Einar's puppet?" Dany scoffed.

Dany was the only student bold enough to use the Head Instructors full name without his title. My best friend truly was fearless. Or was she foolish? I admit I didn't fully trust Einar. But I wasn't the type to throw his name around like that either. And the fact that Caeden followed his every command like a lost puppy was disheartening to say the least.

After dinner, Dany and I headed back to the dormitories to prepare for tonight. The dorms were generally pretty empty, but they sure as hell wouldn't be tonight. We stayed in the dorms on the compounds main campus, although most of the other students stayed with their parents. Dany's parents were both doctors in the emergency ward, so they were rarely at home - but she was still lucky. My parents weren't even in the picture, so the dorms were my only option.

I scanned my hand on my dorms door, and it clicked open with ease. My dorm was large, and offered a living room, kitchen, reading room, a huge bathtub, and a walk in closet attached to my bedroom. I even had my own balcony that overlooked the lake, so I had no room to complain about my living situation.

Dany rushed to my closet and immediately picked out two dresses that had the least amount of fabric.

"Hm, I guess these will do. I'm going to take a shower quick, don't start pregaming without me!" Dany said.

I strolled over to the kitchen, and grabbed the aged red wine out from my cabinet. I poured myself a glass, and walked out to the balcony to wait for Dany.
