Chapter 2: Being Jobless

Sabrina Dubois' POV

It has been 4 months since I have graduated from university. I have been applied too many jobs that are available in France and also overseas, but mostly in the United State of America. Since I was graduated with honors in Master of Science in Immunology and Cognitive, I was planning to get a job in a biotech company. Hoping that I will have that job in the States, I thought to myself.

It was on Sunday. The sun was out, and the weather was nice. I told my parents to get some lunch with my friends in the city. I took the train from Nice to Marseille with a TER train that leaves every 2 hours. I was looking outside the window when I was on the way to meet my friends. The train departed at 8 A.M and will arrive in Marseille at 11 A.M. I smiled at the thought of meeting my friends but mostly having to eat my favorite dish at Thai Express which is Orange Chicken.

I arrived a little bit early then my friends. We promised to meet at 12 P.M. so I still got time to get my order of Orange Chicken. I get the order and was waiting for my chicken. There were not so many people that were in that restaurant. When the receptionist was calling for orange chicken, I was about to get my order when some random, mysterious guy just passed me and took my order and quickly went out the door. I was confused as I looked at the receptionist and she was shrugged. I was furious as I went out to get my order.

When I was out the door, I scanned the sidewalk to see where that random, mysterious guy had gone. As I was scanning, I saw the silhouette of the random guy. I was making my way toward the guy. I can literally his back was muscular and lean in sort of way that makes my feet turned to jelly. I took a whiff of his perfume, it smells of musk, pine wood and a strong minty. I was in a trace. I stopped in my steps toward him. When I opened my eyes, he was crossing the road as the walking light turned to green.

I was chasing him down the streets before I took his hand into mine. The electricity that shot through my body when I touched him could fire up a whole city. I was amazed at our contact that I was forgetting the man that I hold in place. I looked at him when his mouth was talking something to me but my ears were so out of this world that I can't hear anything that he said to me. I looked into his face.

His eyes were grey like the silver slate. His brunette, wavy hair that was cascading his forehead like a model. His complexion was porcelain white and I can literally see his blood was running through his face. His high cheekbones were visible, and he has this 5 shadow feature with a strong jaw. From his height, compared to mine, was like 6 feet give or take. I looked at his lips, they were kissable, and I can see through them that he has nice teeth arrangement that made my feet turned to Jell-O again. The dirty thoughts that were running through my mind were being stopped when he was waving his hand in front of me.

"Miss, what are you doing?" he said with his intense slate eyes were eyeing me up and down. My body reacted under his gaze.

"Um, um, um, you took my order. The one that you have right now." I said before showing his order in front of his face.

"This is the one that you ordered, monsieur. I hope you don't mind making the exchange right now because I really need to go." I said while trying to make an effort to get my order back from his grip.

"Oh, yeah. I'm sorry about that. My mistake," he said before to give my order back to me and I gave her order to him. I bid goodbye before getting out of his hair. I can feel that he was gazing on my head. I scurried away from him, wishing that I will not see him again.

I ran back to the restaurant where I saw my friends were waiting for me. I kissed them on the cheeks and told the reason why I was running late. Then, we talked about what we have been doing for the past 4 months after we were graduating. Sherry was getting her first spotlight as a journalist in Africa. Momo was getting her first exhibition at the Louvre for being the best designer in furniture carpeting. Then, Solehah was having a gig for prosecuting a rich family that gets framed for the political issue. When I heard that they all had a great life in front of them, I was envious and wishing that I will get the job in the States very soon. I was dreaming when they asked about my life.

"So, Sabby, how's your life?" Solehah asked me.

"Yeah, it's being good. I helped around the house a lot and I was waiting for interviews for the jobs that I applied. So, yeah. I got more time spent with my family before I will be out of the house for a long time." I said, secretly hoping that they will drop the subject real soon.

They were looking at each other and made some eye contact that I knew so well. They were looking down on me for not having a great straight after graduating. I gripped my hands so tightly that I can feel my blood was cut from the circulation. I faked a smile at them before we were talking about something else. When it almost 3 hours that we spent together talking about our future life, marriage, and career, I literally hope for them to die before wishing them well on their journey.

I was waiting for the train to depart when I looked at my phone when the lock screen was a picture of me and my ex-boyfriend, Fayyad. I sighed before locking my phone again and looked out the window. The train took 3 hours before I need to take a taxi home. I was unlocking the door before entering the house. I saw my father was watching the telly, but more like the telly was watching them. I pulled a blanket on his body before kissing his cheeks. I went to put the orange chicken on to the counter when I recall the encounter with that random, mysterious man. Instantly, my feet turned to jelly before I went to the bedroom to get a good night sleep.

I literally hope that I can see him again...

Nathan White's POV

"hey, what are you thinking about?" My mother said as I was looking outside the window.

"what? Why you said that to me?" I said as I was smiling at my mother. She had been preparing my breakfast when I kept her company as I was reading the newspaper for today.

"I don't know, you seem distant like you want to be somewhere. You also like you were in deep thoughts. Have Alfred been making you uneasy this day?" My mother asked as she stopped doing her scrambled eggs.

"it's nothing. I think it just the jet lag. You know, I have been Latvia since forever. I think I need to get adjusted to the United States time now," I said as I took a sip of my coffee.

"Are you sure about this, honey?" My mother asked me. I smiled at her before I chuckled.

"How can I not be when you were at my side now," I said as I went to hug her from behind.

"oh, shut up, Nate. I know your father must be proud with you if he was here with us," she said as she took my hands into her soft, fragile ones.

"of course mum, I know. I get into this because of him, remember?" I said as I was giggling at her.

"I knew, that's why you lead a dangerous life. I don't know who will be accepting you as anyone's husband. oh, honey, I hope you will found the perfect one for you to be by your side," my mother said as she was caressing my cheeks.

"come on, mum. If they don't want me, I still have you," I said as I hugged her again.

"oh, hush. What is that smell?" She said before she looked at the stove.

"damn it, it burned," she said as she turned off the stove and her scrambled eggs were now burned.

"I think my stepdad will need to master his cooking skill," I said as I took a piece of the eggs. My mum stared at me before she patted me on the arms as I chuckled at her. But I could not help to think about the person that was chasing me the other day when I was in France before I was on my assignment in Latvia. I was wondering who she was.
