Chapter 0 - Prologue

[Year 2020, October 21st]

A girl, laid in a hospital bed with a ventilator strapped on her face. Electric nodes attached around her body to monitor her unstable condition. The sound of the IV drip working its' magic, reverberating in a tiny room. Bandages wrapped from head to toe.

Her hair was smooth and a majestic white. Deep greenish eyes that can make one absorbed in them for a long time. The eyes devoid of any light, filled with sadness and regret. The girl's name was Cuojue Huang.

Outside the room, sounds of a conversation can be heard...

"Mr Wang, is she awake? Can I meet her?", her voice sound worried.

"She is awake and her condition is still unstable so I hope that Miss Jin would keep her hands to herself. You may speak with her, you only have 30 minutes to speak, we will be ending visiting hours soon." replied Mr Wang.

Hearing that, Jin Yi bowed and thanked the docter twice before sliding the door open and entering the solem room.

"Juejue, how are you?" asked Jin Yi, trying her best to hide the sadness in her eyes.

Feeling the presence of someone familiar on her right, Cuojue spoke in a tired and hoarse voice "I am fine...are your wounds healed?"

"Yes, my bullet wounds have healed and the organisation has sent me to check on you." a tinge of anger and sadness apparent in her voice.

"If only they didn't send us on that suicide mission, you woudn't have to be hospitalized and waiting for your death at all." tears started flowing down her cheeks. The saddened girl wanted to blame someone for their misfortune.

To shed some light, Cuojue and Jin Yi both worked in an organisation that did business in assasination. They were both friends and partners that made a living in killing big targets ranging from traitors, spies, publicly recognised magnates to some of the world's most dangerous criminal warlords.

This time, on the last mission they would accomplish together, the intel they received from HQ was wrong and they were ambushed. Somehow, the enemy got hold of their information and hired martial artists and assasins to kill the both of them. Although forced into a corner like beaten dogs, they fought their way through and managed to survive in the end.

But in the process, Jin Yi lucked out and was shot at 5 times, 3 hit her in non-vital parts while the last 2 was blocked by Cuojue. A bullet went into her skull from the left side of her head, rupturing her left eye before destroying the nerves connecting her eyes to the brain and the other hitting her left lung before fainting. Angered, Jin Yi struggled and held up her deagle, killing their final enemy.

Without being able to see and nearing her deathbed, Cuojue tried to sense her only friend that she could call a family. Slowly raising her right hand high up, she carressed Jin Yi's face and wiped her tears away. Her lips were parched, saliva filling up her mouth. She spoke "Jin Yi...don't blame them...and don't blame yourself. We are assasins and we know the risks involved the moment we stained our hands. Jin Yi, I am very tired of killing, risking my life everyday and having to worry about what to do everytime, Im tired.... Im sorry Jin Yi, I can no longer accompany you-"

Suddenly, Jin Yi raised her voice, quivering, tears streaming down her face endlessly. Perhaps, she coudn't accept that another important person would leave her alone.

"No! Don't say that! You mean alot to me...*hic *hic... without you...I...*hic...please...don't leave me. I'm sure there is a way to save you!", tears staining the bedsheet. A truly heartfelt confession. Alas, there is no solution.

Silence lasted for awhile, crying echoed in the room. Feeling that her end is near, Cuojue spoke one-last-time.

"Jin Yi, be a good girl, don't upset the organisation, you still have other relatives to take care of, promise me. I miss my dad very much and I also miss all my friends. I don't have anything to lose anymore. My only regret is that I can't see a beautifully married Jin Yi. Bury me in a nice and cozy place, ok? I'll be going first.", struggling to keep her eyelids open. Cuojue had nothing left to keep her in this world, she was glad to leave this world while having to save a single life, she wasn't fond of killing but it was the only thing she knew. Perhaps her death may help Jin Yi lead a better life. Afterall, Jin Yi became an assassin because of her.

Jin Yi reacted, tears gushed out harder, her eyes reddened. She knew that Cuojue was nearing her final moments. She quickly hugged Cuojue and accepted her wishes. To help ease her friend's pain and regrets.

"I promise to be a good girl, I promise to bury you in your favourite spot and I promise to marry-" Before she could finish her promise, the sound of a flatline filled the room. Jin Yi cried the loudest in her life, a pool of mucus drenched the floor. Mr Wang rushed in with a squad of nurses.

"Shes gone, Amen." he sighed.

Cuojue lost her consciousness, leaving for the afterlife.
