3 Chapter 3

Callum and I sat down on the opposite side of his desk.

"Mr. Baltic, if I may begin by saying-," Callum was cut off by the hybrid who raised his hand.

"Just Kai, Mr. Baltic seems too formal now that we will be working side by side with one another." He said and Callum nodded before speaking.

"Alright Kai, who is the war against and why? Let me start by saying I don't do petty disagreements as a valid reason for an outbreak." Callum said nonchalantly as he waved his hand around. His eyes glued to the hybrid's.

"Before I tell you who it's against, I'd like to explain why we are at war in the first place." Kai cleared his throat and sat up, placing his elbows on top of the desk.

"Rumors have it that there's a creature chained by our enemy who was not born as a supernatural, but created. It is said to be the perfect killing machine and I'm not one for superstition or useless gossip but-,"

Callum eyes burned with a new flame.

"You're telling me that you called us here because of a rumor you heard? A rumor?" Callum spat. His entire body tensed with anger upon hearing the hybrid's words.

"Not exactly. You see, the source of the rumors are known for their lack of bluffing. I don't take the fact that I could be killed by something unheard of lightly." Kai's flaming orange eyes made their way to me and I just scoffed.

"Welcome to the real world Hybrid. That's a fear for every living being on the face of this planet." My hands flailed about, it amazed me to think he went his entire life without any fear of someone else killing him until now. Even I, the descendant of the first witch, had that fear.

"Well I haven't felt that fear. I'm a mix between creatures that were never meant to be mixed, a dangerous combination at the top of the food chain and now there's something out there that could possibly be my downfall." He continued, his hands moving about on the desk as he spoke. I couldn't help but trail his actions with my eyes, watching his hands correspond with his words.

"So who's your source." Callum tapped his finger against the wooden surface.

"To start, it's one of your kind."

At his words I felt my face scrunch up. My kind? There's no way a lower status witch would be able to create something of that sort. An entire being with the ability to take down a hybrid? No way.

As if he could see my doubt clouding my expression he spoke up again.

"Has either of you heard of The Ophelia Coven?"

My heart dropped to the floor at the name. The Ophelia Coven.

"Oh course we know the name, they ruled over the witches for decades. They still do in some parts of the world." I responded and Callum seemed like he could break the chair arm completely off with his tight grip.

"You honestly believe you can go against The Ophelia Coven?" Callum seethed through his clamped teeth and the hybrid just stared at him in question.

Kai's eyes fell on me with his eyebrows furrowed.

"Then you're more of an idiot than I thought," Callum stood up from the chair, creating a screeching sound.

"It's hardly anything to overreact about, I'm sure with my allies that it'll be taken care of a-," before the hybrid could finish Callum cut him off.

"If it's from The Ophelia Coven it's not an 'easy win' like you say. They are stronger, more powerful, and skilled in every aspect. They've kept witches like us under oppression for decades and not once was someone able to stop them. But you think you can? Tell me, what could you possibly do if one of them where to rip the air from your lungs huh? How could you survive them?"

Callum was breathing heavily as he awaited the hybrid's answer, but to my surprise, Kai's eyes fell onto me.

"That's why I asked for her." Kai stood to match Callum's figure but his eyes stayed pinned on me, creating a warmth in my body like a fire had egnited inside of me.

Oh this bastard had some nerve to use his vampiric tricks on me. High ranked vampires could make anyone feel what they wanted at anytime, and what higher rank was that of a hybrid? I narrowed my eyes at him before speaking.

"And why is that? I hope you don't expect me to place my life on the line for you. I'll happily fight against The Ophelia Coven but do not expect me to save your ass as well as mine at the same time." His plump lips turned up into a smirk and he looked me over with his burning eyes, I felt my skin tingle under his gaze.

"Hey," Callum said, snapping his fingers infront of his face, "right here my guy, she's not a piece of meat."

Kai instantly stood up slightly straighter before clearing his throat.

"Raven!" He raised his voice enough for her to hear him, shortly after the door creaked open.

"Yes?" Her stern but smooth voice answered.

"Show our guests to their rooms, would you?" His voice was gentle yet commanding. I looked back to see her nodding and turning towards the hallway so I stood up and prepared to follow her. Callum walked in front and as he exited the door the hybrid spoke up.

"Oh and Aria, if I may have a word." He stepped around his desk as Callum disappeared off into the hallway.

I felt my heart beat sped up erratically at his closeness when he stopped directly in front of me.

"I don't know how you expect me to trust you if you keep using mind tricks on me, but understand that I've noticed them and they won't work." His head tilted with a small smile on his lips and I felt my face coil up. My fist balled at my sides and my jaw clenched tight.

"Did you just accuse me of using my powers on you while you've been using your vampire tricks on me? Kind of hypocritical don't you think?" I spat and with that I turned away but not before I seen his face fall with an expression unknown to me.

He looked.... downright confused.

I sped down the hallway to catch up with Callum and Raven, finding them not far from the office.

Looking at their figures, I could only find myself shaking my head in disbelief. Mind tricks? How could he accuse me of such things when he's been using his tricks the entire time!
