31. Midnight snack.

I opened the door, peeking into the house. I really didn't want to see anyone at the moment. (*cough*Lucas*cough*)

The only person I could spot was Elaina who was meditating. I shrugged. 'Good enough.'

I closed the door quietly, creeping past Elaina on my tippy toes.

"....What are you doing?"

"Uh.... nothing." I quickly say, returning to my natural posture. "Where are the others?"

"Isla is checking on your aunt and uncle and the others are doing.... whatever they're doing." Elaina shrugs, returning to her meditation.

"Alright, thanks." I goes to my aunt and uncle's room. I see Isla seated on the bed, transferring her energy to my only family left.

"How are they?" I ask, my eyes not moving away from them for a second. Isla doesn't respond immediately. She stops after a few seconds and turns to me.

"They'll be fine. They look better all ready." I move closer and study them. They DID look better. Their eye bags had disappeared and they had meat on their bones now. It almost looked like they were sleeping.

'Almost." I thought, sighing sadly. "Thanks for taking care of them, Isla."

"It's no trouble at all. Hey, listen, we still have something to talk about. But before I do, I'm really really sorry about what Lucas –"

"It's okay, Isla. Don't worry about it. That was probably Lucas' way of showing how much he cares. So, what do you want to talk about?"

"Well, we have to talk about leaving soon."

"Oh, um, well.....how about we leave after my exams? They're next week."

'Which gives me enough time to mentally prepare myself for what's about to happen....I hope.'

Isla nods and places a hand on her shoulder. "Alright. See you later?" She waves before walking out.

I took a deep breath and sit down on the bed, taking my aunt and uncle's hands in mine. "Hey aunt, uncle. I...had a fight with Lucas. Told me I was "selfish". Apparently he thinks I'm selfish just because I was thinking of leaving you guys." I roll my eyes in annoyance.

"I'm not shaken by him though. Miss Willow made it clear I have to worry about myself first and she's right. I hope you wake up soon. I miss you guys. " I smile sadly, kissing them on their foreheads before leaving.

Having nothing to do, I decide to go to the backyard to train my powers for a bit. I was in the middle of casting a spell when Isla came in with a ringing phone.

'Why is she holding my uncle's phone?'

"It's been ringing for for almost five minutes now. Maybe you should answer it?" She handed the phone to me before walking out. I nod and pick up the phone.

"Hello?"

"Tara, is that you?"

"Hey, Mrs Gina. Everything okay?" Mrs Gina is a close friend and colleague of my uncle. She's also a gossip friend of my aunt's.

"Yeah, I just called to ask about Caleb and Kathryn. I haven't seen them in a while, are they okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, they just.... they've been sick lately so they decided to take a few days off. I guess they forgot to tell someone."

"Really? Well, how are they now?"

"They're getting better now. I would have given them the phone but they just took their medicine and are asleep right now."

"No, no, it's fine. I just called to check up on them. I'll see you later,Tara. Send my regards to both of them."

"I will. Bye." I hung up the phone, placing it on the ground before continuing to train my powers. Evening came quickly and I had to stop. I scrunch my nose at the awful smell wafting from....

'Oh wait, it's me.'

I groan in disgust and go straight to my room. I take a quick hot shower and change into a tank top and sweatpants.

I go to the kitchen and spot Isla, as usual, making dinner. She spots me and smiles as she stirs a spot.

"Hey. How was training?"

I shrug my shoulders in response. "Eh... so so." I swipe an apple from the fruit bowl and bite into it.

Isla peers at me with a pout. "You're going to spoil your appetite"

"I'm not eating dinner"

Her pout turns to a concerned frown. "Why not?"

'I'm still mad at that asshole.'

"No reason. Good night." Throwing the apple core in a bin, I swiftly turn around and go to my room.

My eyes closed immediately as my head hit the pillow.

Growl...

Growl...

Groooowlll....

"Ugh...shut up, tummy." I turn to the other side, scolding my tummy for waking me up. "I'm too comfortable to eat."

.....

.....

....

"Well, that's –"

Grooooooowllll

I groan louder and slowly sit up. What was it that the others said? About angels not getting hungry and me being used to eating? I scoff and grumble under my breath as I shuffled out of bed and headed out to my favourite room, aside from my room of course;the kitchen.

I pass the living room, sighting Lucas on the couch – wait what?

I furrow my brows and retrace my steps, staring at him. What the heck was he doing? He looked like he was meditating....

I shrug. 'Eh whatever'

I resume my mission to the kitchen, in the mood for cereal. I pick up a random a cereal brand – they were all sweet anyway – and pour it in a bowl, adding milk. I take my .... midnight snack? to the living room.

'Uncle Caleb should really stop this.' I silently chuckle at the times we always spent eating on the couch when Aunt didn't know. I felt my shoulders sag at the cold reality...

'That's right, they're still asleep.' I close my eyes and let out a shaky breath, my cereal making a ripple as a tear dropped. Suddenly I didn't feel hungry anymore...but knowing my aunt and uncle, they would probably beg me to eat something.

So I took a bite, my appetite miraculously returning. The only sound in the living room was the sound of cereals being crunched and Lucas breathing.

A few minutes later, I heard Lucas silently grunt in annoyance. I raise a brow at this. What's his problem this time?

Is my chewing too loud for him? I scoff lightly at the thought, chewing louder. I smirk, sighting a forming frown on his features.

'Serves him right, that jerk...'

'I agree'

I widen my eyes in shock at Dalton's sudden comment. I choked on a piece of cereal, hitting my chest violently.

Lucas scrunches his nose in disgust as the piece of cereal went right back in the bowl. 'Disgusting' He thought, returning back to his meditation.

I sigh in relief as the cool water soothes my throat.

'That was a close one.'

'I'll say.'

My eyes twitch at his words. 'What is wrong with you??!?! I could've died!'

'You can't die, you're an angel'

I blink in realization. ' Oh yeah.'

I can imagine Dalton rolling his eyes as he sighed. 'Teenagers'

'I can hear you.'

'I know.'

I huff in annoyance. 'Well, aren't you a teenager?'

He chuckled. 'Not even close.'

I blink rapidly. 'Wait what? How old are you exactly?'

'...'

'.... Dalton?'

'.....'

'Aaaand he's gone. I swear, he comes and goes as if he lives in my mind or something.' I grumble under my breath and place my bowl in the sink, carrying a glass of water to my room.

'Great, now I know two jerks.'

Lucas stares at the back of my head with narrowed eyes. He felt something. Something dark....but what?
