Prologue.

"Captain?"

"Yeah."

"Damn."

It was desolate, in the early hours.

No one knew what to think.

But they knew what it was, on the other side of that gallant wall.

"All hands. Ready."

His voice rode the smoke, an unnerving calm.

It wasn't the first night.

But it may be the last.

But last night, could have been their last, as well.

"Cannons."

"Ready."

"Aim."

The moon peaked in the sky.

It's light was like a weak flare, over the field.

Eyes gleamed in that serene glow.

Everyone waited in utter calm, for the first that dared step into range.

His hand remained raised, their eyes remained peering afar.

"Fire."

A cacophony of noise burst the otherwise pindrop silence on the wall.

Dust flew and men buckled under the stress of the cannons.

The creatures had stepped past the boundary, closing fast, their eyes like torches, were their only targets.

"Guardsmen."

"Ready."

The grim looks of the Guardsmen of Karlan, reflected eerily calm, against the fires on the wall.

The sounds of untold countless moving, rang like a cavalries charge, fighting with the cannons.

The captain lowered his hand.

"Die."

The creatures had reached the wall.

They scaled it, like a monkey would a tree.

"Mages."

"Ready."

"Kill."

A squadron of mages, faces pale, but without hesitation, let loose lightning.

It chained again and again through the Guardsmens armors, linking into the creatures.

Each Guardsmen that fell, was followed by the death throes of several creatures.

Like bombs of electricity they fell from the walls, seeking to maximize damage.

They had heeded his command, and died, for Karlan.

"Captain!"

Something stood on the wall.

A cannon was crushed under it's foot.

A pair of gleaming eyes were growing larger.

"Fire."

Lightning struck his armor in a sea of ice blue.

The top of the wall grew far as they fell.

Good Evening.

This is a story made in collaboration with the worst parts of my mind.

Tread with care.

Enjoy.
