The Fairy-Tale Hero

In my life, i've lived, i've learned, and i've grown, but there is something that I will always regret. I didn't see it before, but after fighting those who try to bring me harm or harm to those I love, I finally realized… what everything meant. Those cherished moments we shared, the good, the bad, and the ugly, it was never meant to be hidden away inside me. It was to be held and brought to life, like the wonderful soul you have. You have harmed me in ways you don't understand, but I cannot stay mad at you forever. In my darkest moments, in my brightest, you have always been by my side like a guardian angel. And in the one moment, you needed me most, I left you to suffer alone. I don't deserve your love, but living the life I had if I had to spend my last moments with someone i'm glad it was you. Leaving you behind to face this hardship is something I can't help but hope you'll get over it. But I know that as you step forward in your life, nothing will be able to hold you back. I was so upset at myself for ever loving you, I was upset at not knowing who I really am, but now that i've figured it out, it is too late. The lessons we learned as we grew from children to adults, i've only realized now, that tomorrow isn't always promised. Now as I take my last breath, the burden that is on my chest is washed away. I can happily say this with no other intentions, that i'm happy to know you, to love you, to fall in your arms. Tomorrow may not be promised, but I promise that forever and always even in death, I will always love you.

  Those words he spoke to her were not the ones she wanted to hear. She wanted him to tell her that everything would be alright, it would be just fine. She wanted him to tell her, that he would live. Yet in that final moment, he told her not what she wanted to hear, but what must be said.

  Praying at his grave was a young woman. She couldn't stop the tears from flowing down her cheeks as she wished he lived. She promised herself countless times that this would be the final moment, the last time she returned here. Yet every time she thought of him, she found herself here at his grave once more. It has already been over a year since then but she still could not get over him. Over the love they shared. If the story of their love was put into a novel, she was sure it would be a best seller.

  She ran her hand over his tombstone as she said, "Sorry." Before she took her fifth step away from the grave, she turned around once more. The tombstone read, Clayton Smart Jr.

  The memories they hold together, the love they shared, if told to another would be a tragic tale.
