4 1.3 Rage, Rage against the dying of the light

Hello. :) Just found out that her name in Worm is Uaine, not Ulaine. I suck for not being able to read.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Die] She said. And it did. Unlike humans, Grimm disintegrated after they are defeated. This causes many issues in the world of Remnent because scientists and professors could not study Grimm corpses or experiment on them. This, they have to be conducted on living Grimm, which are much harder to obtain and more dangerous to study.

The Grimm Screeched. The Children's behind her covered their ears and cried out at the loud noise. The top part of the Grimm, the Human-Like figure screamed in pain before it melted into a dark pool.

Interestingly enough, the Horse-Part of the Grimm remained unaffected. It screeched, before two flying scythes cut it into pieces. Maria, ran over to Uaine, a strange look in her eyes. Uaine, crouched down, and the two children pulled ran into her chest, hugging and crying into her arms.

They sat like that for several minutes, their crying and sobbing slowly diminishing, before they collapsed into her arms out of exhaustion.

"Let me help." Maria offered, taking the young boy and standing up. "Let's head to the town hall. We can rest their for the night." She suggested. Uaine offered a nod, before following her.

The town hall was mostly destroyed, but they were able to scavenge in the nearby houses for food and blankets. Once they laid the children down on makeshift beds, they both headed out into the village to search for survivors.

They searched in silence. Maria obviously wanted to ask something, but didn't know how. Uaine noticed this and spoke.

[Questions unasked go unanswered.] She simply stated, as they dug through a broken house.

Maria paused for a moment before asking what was on her mind. "How . . How did you do that?" she asked.

[I have done many things.] she simply refuted.

"How did you, summon that girl back? Was it your semblance?"

[I never did tell you my power fully did I? I can kill anything with a touch, and their souls are trapped within me. I steal their power, and can summon them from the fields of Hades to serve me again.]

"You can . . Summon their souls, and use their powers after you kill them?" She asked in a disbelieving voice. What kind of Semblance was that? She doubted a more overpowered Semblance could exist! Instant death, stealing powers, and summoning minions to help all in one? The scientists that preside in Atlas would be foaming at the mouth if they ever find out.

Uaine simply nodded. They conducted the rest of the search in silence, with Maria thinking over the implications of such a power existing, and Uaine planning her next move.

Such a power would completely change the way huntsman and huntresses operated. Their statuses in society would completely change if it was found out that semblances could be this strong.

Once they headed back to the town hall, they found the children still asleep.

"How cute." Maria cooed, as the children unconsciously hugged each other in their sleep. It was a cute scene, Uaine agreed.

Maria set up a small campfire, before setting some canned soup on a pan they found in a destroyed house, and pulled up a log to sit on. Uaine had no experience camping, so she sat down and watched.

They sat in comfortable silence, before Maria asked a question.

"So, what are you planning to do after this?" She asked.

Uaine pondered that as well. She had received a message saying these two children where the ones she was tasked to save in the mission, Nora and Lie Ren, but she had no further instruction of where to go to save the last. She could probably venture to the city, asking around and searching for this "Summer Rose", but that would take time, and she didn't want to travel through a Post-Apocalyptic world on a goose chase for one person.

But no sooner than she had thought that, a prompt appeared.

[Thus Kindly, I Scatter]

[Summer roses destined death draws close. She is fated to perish facing an unknown enemy. You must journey far into the unknown parts of Remnent to save her.

Save Summer Rose.

Penalty for failure: Death]

Well, that answer's that. She seemed to be simply thinking of what to say to Maria on the outside, but she was internally screaming. 'Death !?!' she moaned internally. 'Why death ?!?'

While she internally came to the realization that it was more likely she would die from her system rather than from combat, she was also thinking about why it was only threatening her with death now. Were the other people she saved not as important? Were they not as important in the future?

Either way, she had to complete this mission. Thus, she answered Maria.

[I have received another vision from the Tower.]

Maria blinked. A vision, like the one that led to her being saved? But she thought it was a person with a Future-Telling Semblance? And she still hasn't asked about that person, has she? Or was it another person she killed, and she gained their future telling Semblance?

"So you had another vision?" she asked, excited. What kind of vision was it? If she could see the future, could she see certain peoples destiny? Did she know her future already?

[No. The Tower had Another vision of an important piece. A Queen-Piece of utmost importance. The Mindseer simply showed me it.] Of course, this was just Uaine making BS up. It kept people in the dark of her true connection to the Multiverse and the system, and as long as it kept people in power going crazy with theories, she was all for it. Plus, it was fun.

Maria on the other hand digested what she said carefully. So she was working with 2 other individuals, one who could see the future, and one who could use a form of telepathy? Or were they ghosts like the Faunus Girl who ambushed her was?

This presented a dilemma. If she was going to leave to help this person in the vision,, it would be only right to help her. But that presented another problem. The children.

They couldn't just leave them here in the middle of a ruined village. And no way in hell would they be going on a dangerous rescue mission. And even if they could survive by themselves, it was a risk they both weren't willing to take. So one of them would have to stay behind and take care of the children. The nearest town was a ways away, and would take time to reach.

Maria frowned as she came to this conclusion.

Uaine stood up, and put her hood up.

[We shall leave before the sundial turns.] she spoke. Maria looked at her companion, feeling a great deal of respect and gratitude for this person she only met yesterday. Though she didn't know her, they were willing to save her from an ambush, and put her life on the life for a few children. It reminded her of what made her become a huntress in the first place. Going around saving people in need.

"Thank you, for saving me." She spoke honestly.

Uaine turned to face her and gave her a smile, before turning and walking off into the night.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uaine was unhappy as she traversed through the land. It was quite slow, and she had to take several break after walking for several hours. How the heck was she supposed to get to where she was meant to go? She needed a way to get there faster. Suddenly, another window popped up.

[Thus Kindley, I Scatter.]

[Save Summer Rose. Time left: 7 hours 39 minutes

Penalty for Failure: Death]

[According to current calculations, you will not be able to complete the objective within the givin parameters.

Thus, you will be given your reward early, but you will sacrifice any rewards or the next 3 missions.

Do you accept? Y/N?]

Uaine choked. The image of mysterious god-like figures that puppet the strings from the shadows quickly transformed into several smiling men in suits, pointing a gun to her head with a pen in one hand and a contract in the other.

Even the mysterious people who ran the system were not exempt from the yoke of capitalism.

Her inner greed cried at the thought of lost rewards and powers, but she shakily pressed yes on the prompt, trying not to cry.

[Specter gained: Eidolon]

Eidolon, real name David, was one of the founding members of the Protectorate, and one of the triumvirate. He was one of the strongest Hero's alive, and was recognized as such. His power was mysterious and constantly changing. His power allows him to use any power from a large pool of powers. He can wield up to three powers at a time, but he could not use any 1 power for a prolonged period. After using a specific power, it would be "Drained" of all its energy and could no longer be used. Another effect is that when he first gains a power, he does not know how to use it, but after some use, he automictically becomes better at using the power. Another limit to his power was that he could not control his own power. He gains powers that are useful and helpful to the situation he is in, but his own power chose the powers to give him, and he cannot control which powers he got.

The user is able to replenish, depleted powers by absorbing energy or power from their surroundings, though the energy required in astronomical, so it is likely the user can only ever recharge a few powers. ]

Uaine sighed. Though she wouldn't be receiving rewards for 3 missions, this rewards was extremely good. A power that adapted and gave her powers to face any situation? Its as an extremely strong power, but it had a few obvious limits and weaknesses. The fact that you couldn't control which powers you got, and that you could only use them for a certain amount of time.

She was still extremely excited about this power. Because she noticed one thing when she tested Grey Boy's while walking. She was extremely bored! So she decided to conduct some tests while doing nothing. One thing she noticed, is that the power was limited. It had a large store of energy, but it quickly drained with use. But, when she wasn't using it, it naturally recharged, unlike Eidolons power.

She also was testing because she wasn't all that comfortable with using it. It was a power used by a mass murdering sociopath, and was known for being used to condemn innocent victims to a fate much worse than death. This was why she didn't use it against the Nuckelavee on those children. She could have used it on those children to rewind them to before when they died but condemning children to dying? It simply wasn't something she was willing to do, even if they would be fine afterwards.

Thus, she decided to only use the power only when necessary.

It terms of power, she now was one of the strongest in her world. Invincibility, though timed, was a useful defensive power. A insta-kill touch-based power was an extremely useful trump card, as was her ability to summon specters. Grey Boys power was another Last-Resort Trump-Card, but the option was always there to use it. And Eidolon's power could account for most of anything else she could need. Transportation, movement, and offensive capabilities all in one. As well as other Defensive powers should she need them.

She could feel her new connection to Eidolon's power. It felt like a bottomless void. While Grey Boys power felt like tapping into an endless time loop that never ceases, and applying its power to something, Eidolon's was a void full of potential and infinite possibilities.

She felt a connection to three new powers.

She felt her heart drop. She new that they were powers that her power decided were necessary to the situation.

The mission said that Summer was being ambushed by an unknown enemy. Who was this enemy? And why had her power decided that they were dangerous enough to give her such strong and OP powers?

The first was a simple transport power to reach her destination in time. It created a tunnel/wormhole to any desired location.

The Second was a Defensive power. It created a green bubble that surrounded her and absorbed any attack. She could also manipulate the bubble, trapping her enemies in similar bubbles. They also floated, and she could roughly control them, allowing semi-levitation and flight. But their main purpose was that they were nigh impenetrable.

The Third was what worried her. It was famous for being on of the strongest Eidolon has ever used in his career, and for the sheer power of it. It was known as a ANTI-ENDBRINGER power for god's sake! Matter Eraser was its name. Its purpose was also simple. It allowed her to fire beams from her hands that eradicated anything it touched at the atomic level. Nothing could block it, and it was not effected by physics. It was an Insta-Kill attack in the truest sense of the word.

What could possibly exist in this world that her power deemed as dangerous as an Endbringer!?

Either way, she was dreading to find out. 'Why Me?' She lamented.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I'm not Dead! :) 2.3k Words this time. For those who haven't read Worm, terms like Protectorate, Triumvirate, and Endbringer will be explained later. Was taking forever to decided where I wanted to go next in this story, and have decided to probably go to DXD next. Leave you suggestions for where the MC should go! As always, Constructive Criticism, Suggestions, Idea's, pointing out mistakes, or just yelling at me to Work faster are always welcome. Uaine sounds a bit weirder than Ulaine. Don't know how to feel about it or whether to change it. :/ Feed me power stones for motivation and to show support~!
