3 1.2 Rage, Rage against the Dying of the light

For those who are super RWBY fans, yes this will not follow the plot. As well, this is a slight AU, as Maria should have been ambushed several years before summer rose or lie Ren and Nora's village was attacked. But I will try to keep the main plot of RWBY the same. (That's a lie)

POV Maria Calavera (The Grimm Reaper)

She wasn't supposed to die like this. She remembered now why Huntsman traveled in teams. In the case they come across a situation they could not handle on their own. Sure, you have to split the rewards with them, but what she wouldn't give for a teammate right now. Truly, Hindsight is 20/20.

She knew they were here for her eyes. Growing up, she hid her silver eyes based on the advice of her father. He spent many hours trying to research what they were and where they came from, but too no avail. They were either extremely rare, or someone didn't want information on them being spread. In any case, she hid them behind her skull mask.

It was a rather simple mission in principle. They had received a distress signal that a village was under attack by a single Grimm. Based on the description, they identified as the rare and elusive Grimm known as the Nuckelavee.

But while she was traveling through a mountain range, she was ambushed by an Alpha Nevermore, and forced to use her silver eyes to finish the fight. A prolonged battle with an aerial Grimm in the mountain range was a recipe for disaster. She also needed to get to the village as quickly as possible.

But little did she know that they were waiting for her. They waited till after she was recovering from the fight, before jumping her. There were three grunts, while trained, they possessed no aura. They were lead by an unknown Faunus, who bested her in combat. "You will be dead in 60 seconds." they told her. They were almost right. The Faunus woman was extremely strong, fast and agile, biting through her weapon and shrugging of all of her attacks.

She thought it was over, after all, the Faunus woman standing over her, was swinging for what she assumed was her neck, and while normally she should be able to block the attack, she was caught off-balance. She closed her eyes expecting death, Ironic for her name, but it never came.

She opened her eyes to see a new person standing over her. She wore beautiful Green robes, and had blond hair and green eyes. She was insanely beautiful. She looked and saw the Faunus a few meters away, panting heavily. The woman was staring at her.

She heard the woman speak. Her voice was creepy, as though multiple people where speaking at once, though she could only make out two.

The Faunus Growled at her, before lunging desperately in the hopes to take out her new opponent. Maria realized why. 'Her semblance was timed.' Why else would she where a clock on here pants, and the grunts specifically said, 'You will be dead in 60 seconds.' She originally thought nothing of it, simply them being confidant in their leader, but it was oddly specific.

Thus, the Faunus woman had to act quickly before it ran out. Her two swords posed to strike, the woman simply sidestepped the attack, before reaching out a hand. The Faunus woman did nothing to stop it. If she was reaching out a hand, it would simply be blocked by her aura, and give her an opportunity to strike.

He hand touched her aura, and simply passed through. She could see her hand touch the woman's green skin, before simply stopping. And the figure dropped dead. Like a puppet with its strings cut, she collapsed, with no sign of breathing or movement.

She looked at her savior in wonder. She looked impassively at the body, Seemingly studying it. Was that her semblance? One touch and the victim was dead?

'Such a frightening semblance'. If it worked on Grimm as well, it could be a truly world changing power.

Though she gained massive respect for the person in front of her. She collected herself, and stood up.

"Excuse me?" she asked. The person turned to her. Now that she could she their features more clearly, she was about the same age as her.

[Ah, Thanatos, Saved from meeting the Judges of the Dead.] She spoke to her.

'Thanatos?' She had never heard that name before, though it seemed oddly specific to give her. After all, she was quite famous. Perhaps they thought of her as someone else.

"My name is Maria, and I am deeply grateful for your help. You saved my life." She spoke to the woman gratefully.

[Thanatos, truly you try to reach the heavens once again? Why else would you climb so high to reach the peak of Olympus?]

She blinked. Was this girl hard of hearing? And what was all this nonsense she was speaking?

"Uh, My name is Maria. I was on my way to a distress call received about a Grimm called the Nuckelavee. If their is anything I can do to repay you, please tell me." She spoke again.

[Yes, Yes, Your cries do reach the Garden of the fey. If you will grant me one wish, The imitation of the Pale rider is my hunt beneath this blood-soaked moon.]

Maria Blinked again. Perhaps it was just the way she talked? In riddles and confusing words? She assumed the 'Imitation of the Pale Rider' was meant to be the Nuckelavee. So this woman was hunting it too? Well, she saved her life, she might as well accept the help they offered her. After all, who knows when a mysterious girl who could kill a person with just a touch could come in handy?

"Then lets go. We can talk more on they way there. If that woman was smart, she would have a person stay behind to report to a higher up if she failed. Who knows if they had a back-up plan of some sort." She spoke. "We also must hurry, who knows if the Nuckelavee is still there or has moved on to another village.

Normally, she would head back to a city after being ambushed during a mission, but if she did, she would not reach the distress signal before the Grimm moved on to another village and caused more damage than it already has.

[Yes, let us venture on our great Odyssey.] She replied.

Maria took it as a sign of agreement.

POV Ulaine

[Received -

Spector - Tock

A crocodile Faunus who worked under the Evil Witch Salem, who possessed the Semblance Invulnerability. It would give the user 60 seconds of invulnerability, at the cost that once the 60 seconds had passed, all aura would immediately be shattered, and the user would be exhausted.]

Ulaine could only think of one word for this.

'Disappointing.' She couldn't think of any time she would use this power instead of Grey Boy's, especially with its drawback. While she was reading the text box, which looked to an outsider as if she was staring at Tocks body, the Grimm Reaper spoke to her.

The reason she talked like she did was for a few reasons. One, it was how many of her memories where her talking in this way, thus it was second nature to her. 2nd she was a huge mythology fan and troll, and confusing people and having them decipher what she is saying was amusing.

She was also pleased knowing she completed one of the 3 main objectives in her quest. She didn't know that Maria Calavera was the Grimm Reaper, thus it was nice to already have 1 less major target to worry about.

As both of them descended the mountain, Maria asked her some questions.

"So, What's your name?" She asked.

[I am Queen of the Fairies.] She answered after some thought.

"Fairies?" Maria looked at her strangely. "So what do I call you then, Your Highness?" She asked sarcastically. Though she secretly was impressed. Maybe this woman was royalty of some kind, maybe a leader of a tribe who called themselves fairies?

[You may refer to me a 'Your Highness, or 'Your Majesty'] she answered.

Maria didn't know how to feel about that. She decided to just ignore it for the time being. "So, how did you come across me?" She asked curiously.

[A Fate-Weaver Informed me of Thanatos's peril, and sought to see you keep your eyes.] She informed.

This made Maria stiffen. How did she know about her eyes? Did she watch her battle with the Nevermore, or something else? She decided to bait out some information.

"What do my eyes have to do with anything?" She asked suspiciously.

[Imitations of the Tragic Gorgon Medusa's own, gifted by the God of Light upon Humanity.] She answered, after a few moments of hesitation. This was of course because she was reading the description of the panels that were opening each time she was asked a question, which then she translated into her mysterious riddles.

"What?" Maria questioned. Gifted by the God of Light, What does that mean?

[I know no more, and shall speak no more than the Muse allows.] she answered.

Maria wanted to know more, after all, this was one of the biggest mysteries in her life, but decided not to push. After all, she did save her life. But that did bring up more questions.

"Who was this person that told you about me?" she asked.

[A future-teller, and destiny-watcher.] she answered slowly.

That surprised Maria. Someone who could tell the future trough their semblance? Or she assumed through their semblance.

"What about your semblance?" She wondered. "I've never seen a semblance that could kill a person with a touch."

[Their souls have been chained to my eternal will, with one touch a god will fall.]

Maria Blinked. "Does that mean you could kill any Grimm with one touch?" She asked excitedly. "If so, this could be revolutionary!"

On the way to the village, she asked several more questions, that Uaine tried to answer as vaguely as possible. As they traveled, Maria gained a deep respect for her.

Maria led the way to were the village from which the distress call emerged, while Uaine followed her Mini-map. While traveling, Uaine pondered several questions she had about this whole mission.

Mainly, Why? These powerful being could have simply given her an OP instant win power and told her to save the world, But instead they weakened her by taking away most of her 'Faeries', and most of the missions seemed geared to helping this world indirectly. As if they didn't want her to directly interfere with this world, but instead indirectly help people who would go on to be important.

But why would they take such an approach? As she thought about this, she looked at the sky, to see smoke rising from the horizon. Her eyes widened, before she quickly broke into a sprint towards the burning village.

This startled Maria, who looked towards where she was looking a second before, and spotted the smoke. Her eyes winded, before muttering "Oh Sh*t", and rushing after her companion/Travelling partner.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Uaine reached the ruined village first. It was completely in flames. Corpses were scattered throughout the roads, and the wrecked buildings collapsed as they burned.

She rushed through the roads towards were she could her screams. Maria caught up to see her figure disappear around a corner.

As Uaine reached where the screams were coming from, she hid around a collapsed pillar. She peered over it to see the Grimm. Its appearance was a horse, with a 'man' ridding on it. The 'man' on the horse had no legs, but was attached to the horse. The ;'Man' was skinny and lanky.

Maria finally caught up to her. She ducked down behind the pillar as well, taking in its appearance. The screams had stopped.

"It looks more frightening in person." She whispered.

Dozens of corpses were laying around the Grimm, all dead. As they both shifted, they heard a noise. They both froze, and the Nuckelavee's head snapped around to look for the source of the noise. As its head panned around the area, they held their breath. While they could take it on,. they wanted a chance to look for survivors so they wouldn't get caught up in the fight with the Grimm. The Grimm's head froze on something across from them.

They followed its line of sight to see 2 young kids. A young boy with pink eyes and a green shirt, and a young girl with orange hair, green eyes, and was wearing a black hoodie.

The Nuckelavee released a disorienting scream that stunned them for a few seconds,, before the top part twisted sideways, and its arm extended towards them. Both Uaine's and Maria's eyes widened simultaneously. It extended unnaturally long, tipped with 2 clawed fingers, intent to skewer the children.

Uaine sprung into action. She rushed towards the children, intent to save them first. While she could have attempted to go for the Grimm, killing in one touch, her first priority was protecting the children. Their was a chance that something could happen to them even if she killed the Grimm. She didn't even know if her ability worked on Grimm, as they were soulless constructs created by the God of darkness. Either way, she wouldn't risk the lives of two children to test it.

But as she rushed towards them, she knew she wouldn't reach them in time. The Grimm was ancient, having lived for countless years, and had survived many battles. She saw in the corner of her eye the Horse part of the Grimm, staring at her. It was making neighing noises, as if it was laughing at her.

She swore to herself. She wasn't fast enough. She came up with a plan, she raised her hand, and called out to her power. She had never done this before, but it was now or never. She could feel her soul inside her, and she coaxed it to the surface. At first it fought her, angry at her death, but she showed her what was happening. She could feel it hesitate. She pushed harder as the arm reached closer to the children. It finally made a choice, as it was dead, it no longer had any ties to this life. It would help her only to protect the children. She outstretched her arm towards the Grimm's own, and out of it, and ethereal ghost sprung. The Spector of Tock rushed towards the Grimm's arm, while she rushed towards the children.

The Grimm was not laughing any more. Tock's Spector Opened her mouth to reveal her teeth. Crocodiles were renowned for having the strongest bite of all animals. As she reached the Grimm's arm, she bit down with all her strength, It cut through its arm like a knife through butter. It couldn't cut all the way through, as her mouth wasn't big enough. The Grimm screamed, disorienting Tock, causing her to let go of the arm.

Within a few seconds, its arm regenerated, and out of rage and spite, decided to swing its other arm to attack the children, while its newly regenerated one, swept Tock's Spector away, before it oriented itself, and lunged at the Grimm's arms. As she bit into it again, she tried to reach out and grab the other arm, but the Grimm swung its top part so it's other arm was on the other side of its body. As it swung its arm around, it continued to try and kill the children.

Just as it was about to connect with the kids bodies, who were hugging each other and crying, Uaine appeared in front of them. She stretched her arms out to block the two children. Its arm continued to stretchy, content with piecing through her heart and the kids in one motion, Ulaine activated Tock's Semblance.

As its arm hit her now-invulnerable body, it folded like a spring. Its arm bent as the kinetic force traveled along its arm from having hit an immeasurably hard object.

As its main body stumbled, Uaine reached forward and grasped its arm.

[Die.] She spoke before grasping it.

2.8k Words this time. For those who think Uaine is OP, your right. She is literally the most powerful person in worm in my opinion. On another note, there is depressingly little Worm fanfiction on Webnovel. (That I could find.) Uaine will probably be disappearing soon, and we will get to see her influence on the world as the legends of the Faerie Queen spread. What do you think on romance between Lei Ren and Nora And Uaine when they grow Up? The Problem of Uaine aging can be solved with Grey Boys power, as well see in future chapters.
