1 Part 1

It was a sunny day when he looked out his window to see a small rodent frolicking in the grass.

"Oh the moles are back," he said to his mother, but there was no response. "Mother?", still silent.

"Oh, she must have gone to the market. Silly woman never told me." He got up from the kitchen table where he saw the rodent. He walked up to the counter and put his empty coffee cup into the sink to soak.

"I might just go for a walk, I may see Mother on the way. How exciting." He walked to his room and opened his closet.

"I should read the news before I go for a walk. It is good to be informed about yesterday's events." He grabbed a light jacket and put it on. The dark color of the jacket concealed an unnoticeable stain on the cuffs. Only if someone was looking purposefully, they would see the scarlet splatter near the end of the cloth. He walked to his front porch to see the morning newspaper waiting just for him. He picked it up, eyes squinted from the sun's rays.

"Good morning sir!" said a young voice.

"Who is there? Who said that?" He questioned, no response. "Ugh, those neighborhood children need to learn manners, isn't that right Mother?" Again, there was no reply. He walked in and locked the red-stained door behind him.

"Missing Woman, No Suspects, One Eyewitness" He read the headlines on the front page.
