2 The First Sunlight

Anxiously wait for the man to come. I scrapped the brick wall of my cell. It's dark, full of hopeless and sadness. But the choice I made also bring me a future that I'm certain of. I sleep so well last night, thinking of the moment I got the freedom and meet my beloved family. The hope that lost for a long time came back. I know this is a big risk since I don't know what I'll be facing but I have nothing to lost, I have nothing to be afraid of. I took out my scrape book and write.

"I feel so alive. The news of a possible freedom has watered my wilted soul with joys. I'm eager to feeling the burn from the blazing sun, the wind, and my bared feet against the wet grass. Smell the flower and of course run to the arm of my beloved family. I want to live. I don't want to die anymore'

The bar of cell cracked open, the guard come in on me and look at me. No mockery, nothing.

"Sir, please come with us. Your cooperation will be appreciated."

I stood up and smiled at them.

"Yes." I said as I followed them in silent.

The dark and cold alley gave of the feeling of hell. After almost 50 minutes of walking in silent, I've reached outside. The sunlight hits my eyes, it burns so bad I have to close them. After 10 seconds of adjusting them, I open my eyes again to welcome the sunlight.

"How long have it been?"

I questioned myself. The guard told me to go out for fresh air. So I did. I ran on the grass bared feet, feeling the tangling feeling under my feet. The scorching sun burns my skins, but I like it. I saw 4 more people in this area with me also. No one really talk to each other, each one of us just walking around enjoying the sense of outside in our own way. Soon a team of men with white coats approached us.

"I believe everyone agreed to our conditions."

A man with white beard and is seems to be over 70 but someone still strong and energetic asked.

We all nod.

"For today, we'll be preparing you guys for the experiment, so please follow me."

They took us out on a bus. Not knowing where I go or what will happen, I silently stared out of the window. A man sat next to me, wearing the same outfit as me. He looks like he's in his mid-twenties, well-built and strong. He looks at me and smile.

"What's your name?" He asked.

"Adam, yours?"

"Jason."

After that, we just kind of stop interacting and lost in our own thoughts. After what seems like a long ride, we've reached an isolated area. The road was bumpy with tall, creepy tree looming around like an endless route. If I escape from the lap there's seems like 0 chances that I would survive.

The bus stopped and a big tall man starts to come to us and search us one by one. After a strict search, they took us inside the building.

The smell of medicine and the bright setting. Everyone was rushing like their time is limited; the overwhelming feeling of anxiety hits me.

"Will I survive?"

I look back to the people that were brought along with me. Everyone looks so fragile but in their eyes is filled with hope.

I breathe in deeply and calm myself.

'My last chance to get out.'

We were told that the experiment will begin tomorrow, so for today we'll get food and prepared us for tomorrow.

I got into a hot shower. The pleasant feeling of water, dripping down my body, cleaning the dirt and the rough smell. I feel purified.

Then they got us shaved. We're all look like a new person. Everyone looks so fresh and clean.

The man yesterday entered the room and brought everyone food.

"Everyone is doing great, I assume?"

He looks at us. Those pair of blue eyes is so calming and emotionless that it brings you fear and despair.

We're all nod.

"Ok, let gets straight to the point."

He brought out a projector and process to show us the data of the experiment.

"This so called experiment is just a test of our new type of drug and methods. We aim to create an elite group of soldier."

"What's type of drug?" A guy stood up and asked.

"We haven't named it yet, but it's a type of drug that makes you feel energetic and won't need sleep at all."

Everyone stares in confusions. It's unusual for people not to sleep at all. Although, I didn't sleep sometime but the longest was only 2 sleepless night.

"For how long?" I asked

"15 days only" He replied.

"Now you can't back down from the experiment. For tonight, we will make you sure you have a good night sleep, because this is going to be your last sleep for the rest of the experiment."

Everyone got up and leave to their assigned destination. I look back to the man, and he stares at me too. I still feel uncomfortable when he said the last sleep. I shake away the bad feeling and following along the order.

Stood along in the big room, the tall man looks at the stack of paper in his arms. His cold face shows nothing at all. On the page of his paper there's a line that say

Safety Unknown, Might cause hallucination, paranoid and behavior changes.

Will this experiment succeed or not? And why did they create this to fight against the nature of human? Who knows? Because human beings are greedy and will do everything to win against the odd of Mother Nature.
