A brief history of Arcology-1

Over a hundred and fifty years ago, the Final War broke out. All manners of weapon, from nuclear, atomic to biological and chemical were unleashed upon the Earth and rendered most of its surface uninhabitable for human beings. What was left of Earth was referred to as the Great Wasteland.

While untold numbers of wildlife were destroyed, the rest was transformed and twisted into horrifying monstrosities. They roamed the Great Wasteland, preying on each other and any unlucky soul who encountered them.

During humanity's darkest hour, people heard words of a sanctuary, Arcology-1. Built by people who foresee the eventual fate of the Earth but powerless to stop it, Arcology-1 was a remarkable feat of engineering and architecture, the brainchild of the world's most brilliant minds. Survivors flocked to it and called it their home.

During the first eighty years, the megacity was governed by The First Council, people who shared the same vision. For a while, all was well.

As the First Council members succumbed to old age one by one, they were replaced with the younger generation. Before long, each person began to have their own vision for the future. They picked sides and they quarreled. Arguments became conflicts. Then came the assassinations and the riots. For a while, it seemed that humanity's fate was sealed with Arcology-1 as well.

When tension was at an all-time high and Arcology-1 was on the brink of a civil war, Noah, a self-aware Artificial Intelligence, entered the scene. Within a year, Noah completely subdued all the resistance and converted everyone else to its cause, to unite humanity.

Noah surrounded itself with the most competent people among the populace and gave them tasks befitting their abilities. Eventually, that treatment was extended to everyone. Every citizen was given aptitude tests to figure out what tasks they were suited for and was assigned to them. Everyone had a job, everyone was pulling their weight. Bigger, sturdier walls were built as the living space was expanded. Better, more efficient types of food were discovered. Better, cleaner fuels were created. Under a brilliant and incorruptible leader, Arcology-1 began expanding at an unprecedented pace.

Over time, even physical and mental abilities were no longer the limit for citizens to achieve their potential. Countless technological advancement from muscle mass injection, cybernetic augmentation to knowledge transmission had been introduced and greatly enriched people's life, and in turn, they had been able to give back much more to the megacity.
