3 “What just happened?”

The morning had come. "Urgh, what happened…" Azrael woke up, furrowing his brows as his forehead suddenly ached, but it all went away as he heard his sister giggling beside him on the bed. "Ashy, Ashy!" The infant exclaimed.

"What took you so long?" A small, feminine voice was heard from the other side of his bed. He watched as Lucy crawled into the arms of the girl that was beside him.

"Who are y—"

"Did you hear what I said?" The young girl interrupted with a curious look, holding Lucy in her arms. Her voice seemed to echo in Azrael's ears. Once again, confusion had overtaken his mind.

"Uh...I don't know?" He shrugged. He didn't really know what to say. He had just woken up and is still trying to recollect what happened yesterday.

"Urgh, it's so bright…" He couldn't clearly see the young girl's figure. The sunlight was beaming; He squinted his eyes as he raised one hand to stop the light from invading his field of vision.

"But, who are you exactly?" He rubbed his eyes with his free hand, a soft yawn escaping from his mouth.

Now that he could see her clearly, he took a swift moment to focus on what she really looked like. She had fair skin, brown hair that reached her shoulders, and a curious gaze that seemed to be stuck on her face. But she looked a little irritated. "Ah…" Maybe, It's because he didn't answer her question properly.

"Well, I don't really remember what happened." He scratched the back of his head.

She looked less annoyed now and gave a slight nod. "I'm Kayla!" She cheerfully replied, holding Lucy gently in her arms. "Ahem, Kayla Denysse Lucidis, pardon. It's nice to meet you." She seemed to have suddenly shifted to a sort of elegant behaviour as she cleared her throat.

"Likewise, I'm Azrael." He moved to set himself upright before nodding politely in return. "Azrael Raven." He smiled.

"And that girl over there is my sister, Lucy Raven." He added. "It seems like you've met her already."

"Oh yes, I have." She smiled back, although her jolly smile seemed to contrast from her refined speech pattern.

"Miss Lucidis, would you mind if I asked a question?"

"Yeah su— I mean, yes, certainly." She cleared her throat once again.

"How long was I out for, and what is magic?" He questioned. "Oh, and could I have my sister?" He beckoned to the baby with open arms.

Kayla slowly stood up to hand over the baby to Azrael, who had just woken up. "Here, and don't move too much, you'd fainted not too long ago!" She was very serious about what she said but looked more worried than upset.

Kayla sat back down on the chair, looking at Azrael and his baby sister Lucy. "Azrael...… your mom used some magic earlier to cast a fire spell. What that means is, your mom is an arcanus and the spell she used was made up of energy. That energy you saw is present everywhere, and in everything, even in our communication devices and our bodies." Making gestures to accommodate her explanation, Kayla decided to present a demonstration of what she had meant.

"Users like your parents have a more 'abundant' energy in their bodies like you and me. Everyone is born with energy. It's what helps us move our body and helps our brains function" She sat there looking domineering, but with no faul looks.

"Some people can get the blessings of the system to increase the amount of standard energy in their body. People like you, who decide to raise their stats, can increase how much energy they exert and how much they store." Kayla enjoyed explaining so much that a smile started forming on her face, unbeknown to her. She certainly looked like she enjoyed playing teacher. She had gone on for about 30 more minutes, and in between, tried to grab Azrael's attention even though he was amazed by everything she had said.

"..... that's why your mom could cast a magic spell and your dad couldn't. It's because your mom's an arcanus that uses mana stored in the dantian, and your dad's a Vigor who stores Ki in his bone marrow and muscles."

"Well that's as much as I can say about magic." she smiled in a childish manner as she fell back into her seat, she was out of breath after explaining for 40 minutes straight. She knew that she was no expert in teaching or magic theory, but she had some knowledge from her home studies. As they were finishing off their conversation, silence had gone and the voice of the parents and guards downstairs could be heard. They seemed to be discussing something rather important, some of the bodyguards' faces frowning at Jack as they talked in a manner where you wouldn't be able to hear anything but their whispers. From Azrael and Kayla's point of view, all you could see was lips moving but no distinct noises.

Azrael hid Lucy in her coat as they tried to sneak closer to the adults.

"Psssst..." Kayla tried whispering to Azrael next to her. He seemed to have ignored her attempt to grab his attention, instead, he was trying to read the lips of people in the lounge to see what they had been saying, but it all seemed hopeless. "Pssssst…. Hey, you wanna hear what they're saying?" she had used her elbow to nudge Azrael a few times and smirked in a way that made her seem like she knew exactly what was being said.

Azrael looked uneasy, as he had this feeling of curiosity to know what the conversion was about. He slightly bit his bottom lip then sighed, and said "Ummm... Well, fine…." as the words came through his mouth he nodded, still unsure of his decision to intrude in the adults' company. Azrael and Kayla decided to move slowly and quietly, hoping it would mask their presence and that the parents wouldn't notice the two eavesdropping on their conversation.

"... What? I can't believe how high your stats are! How did you manage not to get snatched by a guild or by a royal family!?" one of the men blurted out. Azrael didn't understand, so he formed a frown from confusion. On the other hand, Kayla's face shifted and looked a little more serious, as she seemed to know more about what had been said.

*I wonder what stats they are talking about, It sounds pretty interesting.* The thought crossed Azrael's mind, but for some unknown reason, he didn't seem to follow that thought. Instead, he had been more focused on what was being said.

Both Azrael and Kayla had moved a bit closer to the group of adults until one of them tripped clumsily over the other and hit the floor with a thud. "Ouch… ugh, are you okay Mrs Lucidis?" Azrael had almost tripped over Kayla, but instead, fell right next to the royal. "Hmmmm, you almost fell on me. you should realize that and watch where you are walking! we will be courted." She had also fallen on the floor. But as she yelled, Kayla had shifted from her position on the floor and sat with her legs slightly curled and one hand supporting her body, while the other was rubbing her head.

One of the adults decided to sneak onto the kids who had just fallen. "Boo!"

"AHHH…." both of the children had shouted, while the hair on the back of their heads shook at the surprise.

"Hahahahaha!" All of them couldn't hold back their laughter at what had happened. Azrael and Kayla both looked back, except he was smiling while she was sulking at what had just occurred. The person who surprised them had been Jack, Azrael's father, and he seemed to be the one laughing the hardest.

"We are sorry, m'lady..." The guards had also laughed, which was quite out of character as they were usually quiet and non-responsive to silly situations. "Ma'am, Sir, Thank you for your hospitality. if we ever come here again, we will visit you. but I need to take the young Mistress home, or her family will get too worried." The head guard said, after deciding to break into the conversion.

"Wait, really?" Kayla looked surprised but a bit disappointed at his words. "Urg, but anyways Azrael, we didn't get to play today. So, how about we make a rain check and plan for another playdate? I might even bring my brother." The young Mrs said, as she picked herself up from the floor and pulled up her thumb up with a huge smile stamped on her face.

"Fine, it's a deal."
