1 Unnatural

Jason stared at his palm which was sparkling with an otherworldly energy. It was colored red and pink, rushing around his hand in an excited manner.

The power had manifested about an hour ago while he was doing his homework.

At first, he had small headache then it faded away after around a minute and came back again. The headache kept reappearing and disappearing at random, becoming worse each time it started again.

Soon it got so bad that Jason passed out from pain, screaming bloody murder. Fortunately, no one was at home at the moment, thus no one heard his cries. His mother had left to buy groceries.

In any case, when Jason came to, the headache had faded away permanently and instead what he felt was something odd within his body.

It felt as if he could feel something flowing within him, beating in tandem with the score of his heart but... it wasn't blood. It felt... different, almost otherworldly.

Confused at the phenomenon, he tried sensing that weird feeling again. He then discovered that he could interact with whatever that thing was.

Curious, he brought the weird feeling to the palm of his hand and saw that his hand started glowing. Scared at first, he lost control of the ability and the glow faded away.

After calming down, he tried once again, to bring the weird energy to his hand. It glowed the same way, once again.

Excited at the prospect, he wondered if he was simply hallucinating due to the headache or if he truly had some type of superpower.

He willed the energy to exit his hand and it appeared around his in a glow of red and pink energy, circling around his hand like electricity, and tingling the same but having none of the problems that came with interacting with electricity.

"I almost cant believe it." Jason commented, his eyes drinking in every detail of the energy.

Curious at the energy's capabilities, he willed it to shoot forward to his pencil. It hit the piece of wood and turned it into splinters.

Astounded at the implications of his weird ability, he grinned almost ferally.

Jason had superpowers and he was so going to explore the limits of his new capabilities.

Snapping out of his excited reverie, he inspected the broken pieces of his shattered pencil. He wanted to discover the properties of his energy.

His energy , when he shot it at his pencil, manifested itself as a small laser beam. He needed to know if the laser beam was using heat to destroy or if it was only concussive force.

Looking at the slightly blackened remains, he concluded it was a mixture of both heat and kinetic force.

Jason cupped his chin in thought before calling forth his power once more to his hand. This time, instead of destroying stuff, he was curious to see if he could manifest the red energy in anywhere else besides his hands.

He revolved the energy towards his elbow then he pushed it to his legs, watching in abject fascination as his legs started glowing with red sparking electric-like energy.

Jason then kept revolving the energy to different parts of his body, making his body glow like a light bulb in his slightly dim room.

Jason thought for a moment then pushed the energy to every part of his body in an equal manner. The glow of the energy bust around his like an aura of power. Electrical energy rushed around it in a veritable tornado of power.

The light in his room dimmed and flickered out, leaving his power the only source of light in the dark of his room.

Jason felt amazing. His muscles automatically devoured the energy and strengthened themselves. He felt an explosive force of energy surging through his limbs as well as a sense of power that he knew was practically unheard of.

But all of sudden, the energy faded away, leaving him in the dark of his room.

He felt slightly lightheaded and empty.

Panicking slightly, Jason wondered what had happened to his ability. He quickly tried calling the power back out but found nothing within himself except a small sense of exhaustion that didn't stem from stamina.

He realized that the energy he was controlling was not infinite. It had a certain amount that Jason hadn't noticed was decreasing, the more he used it.

He theorized that it would have to build its reserves back up before he could use it once again.

He calmed down slightly as he analyzed what he had learned from his ability.

Firstly, it had both heat energy as well as kinetic energy. Concussive force + heat = Super Laser beams. In addition to that, it seemed to give him an odd rush of energy to his muscles.

Stretching slightly, Jason tested his muscles out slightly. It might have been his imagination but they seemed slightly more dense than before.

He frowned, thinking carefully about his ability. What had been the cause of the ability manifesting. The headaches was already a given but what was the reason.

Perhaps it was due to something he ate?

Unlikely.

If it was, then people all across the globe would be manifesting superpowers as well-

No.

It wasn't something he ate. Instead it might have been due to that global phenomenon that happened about two weeks ago. The massive shock wave of energy that had hit the entire planet at the same time.

It functioned as both an Electro Magnetic Pulse as well as releasing certain undetectable and foreign substances in the air which scientists weren't sure about.

Although people weren't sure what caused the global phenomenon that was now dubbed, The Pulse, it was concluded as a Natural Disaster.

Fortunately, governments regulated the damages and fixed up communications as fast as they could and thus was able to avoid a tragedy from happening.

Well, except for the fact that at least 1 million people dying.

Jason theorized that The Pulse might have been the cause of his gaining of this power. He paused his thoughts for a moment, thinking about something.

Jason grinned.

He had to name his superpower.

"What would be a cool name?" He cupped his chin and thought of many different names. "Mana? Chi? Chakra? World Energy? Nah, seems too generic."

Jason paced around his room slightly.

"How about... Flux Energy?" He tilted his head, tasting the name on his tongue, swirling it around to see if it sounded cool enough to use.

"I like it. Flux Energy? The name fits perfectly as well. My energy keeps fluctuating between an electricity-like state and a glowing light-like state. Flux Energy is perfect."

Jason nodded to himself and grinned when he felt the smallest bits of his Flux Energy regenerating in his core.

He played with the energy within his body and started wondering.

"Am I the only one with power?"
