56 Negligence

"Did you hear?" a gossipy nurse asked the employees that just arrived. All of them looked at each other before sighing.

"About Doctor Lu Huan?" one of them asked before nodding his head. "Of course, everyone here knows"

Yi Lan Hospital was now in chaos. All the television channels showed all sorts of news regarding Lu Huan. From his arrest, his crimes, the bodies found, the list of hospitals involved in his smuggling, and all sort of other things regarding him. His past and his background were all over the news. From which school he attended to the bars he frequented.

It was explosive news. He was arrested yesterday night and the news never died down since.

The women who were once drooling for him shivered in fright upon hearing the news yesterday. He was a good man with great sex appeal. Or so they thought. "Gosh, I can't believe he was such a man"

"That's why they always say never to judge a book by its cover" the man among the group said while shaking his head. They always go for the appeal that's why they get in trouble.

Knowing Lu Huan's family background, one of them can't help but ask about the Lu Family. They were prestigious and noble, how could they let Lu Huan run havoc?! "How did Lu Family react?"

"They were the ones who gave more evidence to the police!" one gossipy doctor said while nodding his head. He was satisfied with the outcome. Lu Huan always went around proclaiming his might using the Lu Family. Now, he was disowned by them.

"But I heard they had no involvement in this. The investigation said they had just recently found out" one nurse clarified.

After a good few seconds, an intern came running towards them, his forehead dripping in sweat. He halted in front of them while panting. "Some foreigners arrived"

"I guess they will begin investigating the hospital as well"

Lu Huan's crimes were big. All the involved parties must be investigated properly. Of course, Yi Lan will get investigated. After all, Lu Huan was a doctor in Yi Lan and he did something inappropriate even in the wall of their hospital.

"We're safe. I'm sure we're safe" one nurse assured. "Yi Lan Hospital didn't show up on the list of involved hospitals in the smuggling"

"Of course not. Yi Lan has an extremely strict protocol on medicines" another one defended. It was indeed true that Yi Lan wasn't involved, but Lu Huan was still their own. At most, they will only be investigated for Lu Huan's other crimes that may have happened in the hospital.

"Oh, Doctor Hou!" a woman said as Hou Wei Yan entered the buzzing hospital with Qiu Meixiu. Fang Tao wasn't by her side because he still had some unfinished business with Ye Zhe. Today, her only guard was Qiu Meixiu.

But that was okay, she was reliable and the threat was gone. Lu Huan is gone.

"Good morning" all of them who were flocked together said with a bow. Hou Wei Yan returned the gesture with a smile before she walked away. Despite all the racket of Lu Huan's arrest, they still have patients and they need to continue their operations. There was no time to waste.

She thought everyone would just leave her alone as they did after the rumors about her broke loose, but they surprised her with their sudden smile. They followed behind her, their eyes filled with curiosity. "We heard Doctor Lu was taken from your office. Did he do something?"

Hou Wei Yan looked at them for a moment before looking away. "I called him to send some papers"

"The police asked for cooperation, I simply agreed" she added making the gossipers look at each other.

"So you knew of it?"

"Just before he got arrested" Hou Wei Yan said before halting in front of an old woman waiting outside her office. She smiled at the lady before holding her hand. She then looked at her colleagues and bowed down. "Excuse me, I have a patient"

When Hou Wei Yan and Qiu Meixiu finally got inside, the group looked at each other while nodding their head. "I never believed the rumors about her"

"I can't see her as a conceited person at all" another one said as they walked away from Hou Wei Yan's office.

"Yeah"

"She's a devoted doctor. Whoever spread that rumor must have been envious of her" someone said without realizing the grating Xiong Shuchun on the sideline.

[ How lucky can this bitch get?! Why does she always get away?! ]

"What do you want to eat, Xie Na?" Hou Wei Yan asked as they lined up in the cafeteria. The server looked at her before giving her a smile. The lady became Hou Wei Yan's patient once. She felt really grateful for her that whenever she comes by, the old lady always prioritize her.

"Pork cutlet!" Xie Na yelled when she saw her food.

Qiu Meixiu shook her head upon seeing Xie Na's smile when accepting the food from the lady. "Again with the pork cutlet? Aren't you sick of it?"

"Nope"

Hou Wei Yan can only sigh in defeat. "Alright. Then I'll get the Salmon"

After receiving her food, a loud shout suddenly erupted in the room. One of the interns in the ER (A&E) came running toward her, his face displaying anxiety. "Doctor Hou! Doctor Hou, we need your help!"

"What's wrong?" Hou Wei Yan asked as she jogged towards him, leaving her food behind.

The intern halted and panted in front of her. There's no time to waste! He instantly grabbed hold of her hand. "Emergency! We need your help!"

Xie Na and Qiu Meixiu looked at each other before jogging toward her as well. Hou Wei Yan nodded her head and ran together with the intern. "Let's go"

Upon arrival, she instantly saw a small crowd forming in one of the patients. She walked towards them and gave the nurses a signal to scurry away and attend to the others. "What happened?"

"He has two stabbed wounds" the intern that guided her said with worry. The ER is always busy. Patients always come one after another.

It's been a while since she helped out in the ER. After Jiang Yanyan and the other doctors returned from the US, she didn't need to help anymore. At the thought of Jiang Yanyan, she immediately looked around.

"Where's Doctor Jiang?" she asked after noticing the other doctors attending to other patients except Jiang Yanyan. As she looked around, she saw a nurse with a swollen face, crying her eyes out on the side. "What's wrong with her?"

The intern scratched his head in annoyance. "Doctor Jiang tended to the patient, but she suddenly heard the news about Doctor Lu"

After hearing this from the intern, the three women looked at each other. This doesn't sound good.

"She ran away but Nurse Su stopped her. The next thing we knew, she was on the floor, groveling after Doctor Jiang slapped her" the intern finished reporting. He then looked at Hou Wei Yan and was taken aback by her frowning face.

"That woman!" she yelled in vexation. [ She left a patient for Lu Huan?! ]

Heavy breathing was suddenly heard from the patient. He was unconscious but was breathing harshly. Hou Wei Yan immediately went to check on him. "Scissors"

Qiu Meixiu handed her the scissors in a flash. Upon cutting his shirt, Hou Wei Yan saw he also has a huge bruise on his chest. It looked like he was beaten up before he got stabbed. She took out her stethoscope and nodded her head when she didn't pick out any sound waves. The air was blocking the sound. She then touched his neck and felt no pulse. "He's having tension pneumothorax"

Pneumothorax or collapsed lung occurs when air leaks into the space between your lung and chest wall. This air pushes on the outside of the lung and makes it collapse. In this man's case, the collapsed lung is pressuring the heart. It's a Tension Pneumothorax. "Give me a 16-gauge syringe and disinfectant"

"Hold the patient" she instructed while eyeing the intern. After receiving what she asked for, Hou Wei Yan immediately proceeded with the treatment. She needs to puncture and release the air. "Inserting needle"

Blood oozed out of the patient but Hou Wei Yan didn't show any sign of worry. She confidently handled the needle before performing a tube thoracostomy to release the air. She looked at Xie Na and Qiu Meixiu while nodding her head. "Prepare for surgery. We will close all the wounds"

"Get me a lot of RBC. He's losing too much blood" she said while looking at the intern. The intern immediately left to do what he was asked.

After a while, she turned on the nurses around and gave a seriously angry look. "Find Doctor Jiang. If you need to pull her by the hair just to let her come here then do it!"

"The room is ready, Doctor Hou" a nurse said making her halt her fury. She nodded her head and at her command, the four of them hurriedly went out of the ER, pushing the patient towards the Operating room.

After getting out of the surgery room and instructing the nurses to move the patient to the ICU, Hou Wei Yan was immediately called out again. She can only sigh as she walked toward the ER where a shouting intern calls for her. "Doctor Hou, a patient!"

"Details" she said as she saw the bloodied man on the stretcher.

"Male, 32 years old. Car Accident...his heartbeat is regular but he has an injury to his left hand. He said he can't feel the area around his thumb" the intern reported.

Hou Wei Yan touched the man's hand. "Do you feel this?"

"No"

She nodded her head at him and the intern. "It looks like he has broken something. His circulation is okay but his median nerve is most likely damaged"

"Get a hand splint. We'll perform a wrist series, x-ray the forearm anterior-posterior lateral view" she instructed which instantly sent the intern to scram for the hand splint.

"Hou Wei Yan!" a shout suddenly erupted outside the ER. It was so loud and full of rage that everyone inside can't help but stop. "Where is she? Where's that slut!"

Hou Wei Yan saw through the blurred door a figure of a nurse stopping a tall woman from entering further. "Doctor Jiang. Please stop"

It was Jiang Yanyan!

Xie Na and Qiu Meixiu looked at each other before gasping when they saw the nurse who tried to stop Jiang Yanyan, got shoved to the ground.

A sigh escaped from Hou Wei Yan's lips as she saw this commotion. She looked around and saw one of the residency doctors. "Doctor Mo! Take this patient" she instructed while giving her a nod.

"Hou Wei Yan!" the woman shouted again as she entered the emergency room. All eyes were now darted at her, but her eyes were locked on Hou Wei Yan who still had a little blood on her face from the surgery she did on Jiang Yanyan's neglected patient.

"You fucking slut!" she yelled before running towards Hou Wei Yan at full speed. She looked like a wild animal ready to gobble up her prey.
