24 His Wife But Ultimately a Doctor

There were no words to describe how terrible her feelings are right now. She felt like puking and her sight was blurry from all the spinning their car had to make. She was still not in her peaceful mind when a loud piercing shout was heard.

Like a dumb man not fully aware of his surroundings, Hou Wei Yan looked for the source of the voice, her mind muddled by the impact of the car. She blinked her eyes, trying to make out her surroundings. It took her a long time to regain her focus and saw that she was no longer in the car, but in the arms of Fang Tao.

"Fang" she weakly said.

Fang glanced down at her and frowned. "Don't talk, we will bring you home"

Another cry of help echoed not too far. By now, Hou Wei Yan had regained her complete hearing. She listened intently as the shouting and screaming and begging for help intensified. Its longing effect and misery made her open her eyes in surprise.

[ There was an accident! And we aren't just the victims! ]

Realizing this, Hou Wei Yan wiggled out of Fang Tao's arms. His grip on her was careful yet strong enough to keep her still.

"What the hell are you doing!?" he yelled as she broke free of his grasp. Or more like he allowed her to break free. He was under strict instruction not to hurt Hou Wei Yan.

"They need help!" she said as she ran towards the source of the voice. She took a glance at the truck that had blown up and slowly, she walked towards it to look for survivors.

But before she could go near it, Fang had pulled her away from it. His eyes were cold and had displayed another layer of expression—anger. He was so angry right now. "Bloody hell! Do you know how dangerous it is here!"

"There's someone in there!" she said as she took a glance at the truck but Fang blocked her vision. The smell of burning flesh soon reached the area where they stood.

Hou Wei Yan's eyes displayed horror as she realized she was too late. Not wanting her to see more of it, Fang pulled her away from the scene and posted his men to block it from Wei Yan.

He looked at her angrily once more. "There is nothing more to see here. Get back to the car so we can bring you home"

Hou Wei Yan turned around to the truck and closed her eyes, ready to leave when her ears picked up shouts of help again. This time, she knew she needed to do something. "Get the medical kit"

"We will take you home, Madame" Ye Zhe butted in which was only replied with Hou Wei Yan's unwavering stare.

Bring her home? At a time like this did they forget what her occupation was? She looked at Ye Zhe and Fang Tao before turning to the bulky men.

"I don't know what's lying ahead, but I need your help to get all those people out from harm" she said as she ran towards the source of the voice.

All the dizziness she felt earlier subsided as she ran away from her guards. She understood they were there for her safety but since she is safe, their bulky body should be used on something else. From the voices she had picked up, there were likely a lot of people caught in this accident. Dear Lord, she just hopes it wasn't too much.

She turned around the road and stopped running as her face contorted in surprise and horror. It was a bloody mess!

There was a total of five cars that collided with one another, some of them flipped and another truck collided with a utility pole. She gasped as an old woman crawled out of her flipped car, her head bleeding and her face filled with tears.

"Help!"

Without hesitation nor worry about any possible dangers, Hou Wei Yan ran towards the lady and tried to help her up. "Grandma, let's go to a safer place"

The old woman cried and threw away her arms. She didn't accept Hou Wei Yan's hands and instead was stretching her hands inside the car, her tears not failing to drop. "My Husband! My husband is inside!"

Hou Wei Yan's heart wrenched as she saw the groveling woman on the ground, trying her best to help her husband despite her old age, injuries, and low immune system.

"Honey! Honey! Talk to me!" she cried out to the top of her lungs.

"Grandma, move aside and let me see. I'm a doctor, I will help your husband, okay?" she said as she took hold of her shoulders and slowly, very carefully moved the old woman aside. The woman cried out as Hou Wei Yan face-planted herself on the cement to see clearly. "Sir? Can you hear me? Please make a noise if you are conscious. Sir?"

She focused her sight on the man upside down and was only held back by his seat belt. "Sir!"

A groan was heard on the man's side making Hou Wei Yan breathe out a slight sigh of relief before looking at the old lady. "Grandma, let me accompany you on the side first so I can do something to get your husband out"

The woman obliged without hesitation in order for the woman to do what she needed to do without hindrance. Hou Wei Yan took out a paper bag and handed it to the old lady. "You may have trouble breathing, please hold on to this and breathe in and out once your breathing starts to get shallow. I will try to get your husband out"

After receiving the woman's nod, Hou Wei Yan immediately ran toward the car and tried opening the door. However, just as she was going to do more, a hand grabbed her arms and pulled her away from the car.

Anger surged in her veins as she was displayed with Fang Tao's disapproving gaze again. "You will follow us back to the Mansion. You need to be safe"

"These people need my help! I am not heartless as to abandon these people to secure my own safety" she refuted and pulled her hands away from his grasp.

Fang shook his head at her. He was told to prioritize her safety and that order will be done properly by him. He was a soldier trained to follow orders not follow what his conscience is saying. "You will follow us, Madame. You are our boss' wife and your safety is our priority, the very reason why we are here"

Hou Wei Yan grated her teeth in vexation. As his wife, her safety is their priority? If that makes them abandon other people whom they can surely save for her sake, then her husband certainly doesn't deserve too much praise.

She pushed him away and turned back from him. "I am his wife but remember that I am a doctor. Before I married him, I am a doctor. After I married your boss, I am still ultimately a doctor. So don't give me all that bullshits about prioritizing my safety or I will certainly find out who my husband is and shove my doctor's license at his face!"

Fang Tao was left speechless by this. [ This stubborn woman! ]

He walked closer to her, ready to carry her forcefully in his shoulders when Ye Zhe's hand stopped his. He turned around and was greeted by Ye Zhe's dangerous gaze. "Let's do as she says. We cannot get her angry towards us or boss"

"Remember, she's not someone we can easily trifle with. Madame is stubborn when it comes to her principles and she can certainly find out his identity if she does her very best" he added before motioning one of the guards towards him.

"Get the medicine kit on both cars" he ordered which the guard immediately obeyed. Afterward, he took hold of his phone and dialed for an ambulance.

Fang Tao shook his head at everything that was going on. [ Damn it! Am I to abandon my duty for this?! ]

"You!" Hou Wei Yan shouted at one of the guards.

"Help me get this man out" she ordered, her eyes no longer holding kindness but seriousness. She was devoted to her job and she's not someone who does things half-heartedly.

The guard followed her and slowly made it possible for Hou Wei Yan to reach for the man. Fang Tao clicked his tongue at the sight of her bloodied clothes and struggling figure.

[ This woman is making me crazy! ]

"Grandpa" she called out as she tried to unbuckle the old man's seat belt. She had almost completed her task when she got grabbed away once more.

"Fang Tao!"

He silenced her with his glare. "Your hands will break. Go and tend on your patients"

He immediately gestured for the guard to hold up the car. Fang Tao's movement was swift and precise. It didn't take him long to rescue the man from the car and carry his weak figure to where his weeping wife was staying.

When he went back and still saw Hou Wei Yan on her spot, he clicked his tongue once more. "What are you waiting for, Doctor?"

Hou Wei Yan nodded her head at him and ran toward the couple. The guard who was ordered to get the medicine kit arrived shortly after which made Wei Yan feel thankful.

"Go and help the others rescue the injured" she ordered as she placed portable oxygen on the old lady. She then turned toward the old man and examined his eyes.

He was conscious and was thankfully displaying no sign of a concussion. He only had some wounds on his arms and glasses stuck on his skin. She immediately took control of the situation skillfully.

As she was tending to the old man, a sudden cry for her name was heard. She turned around and saw Ye Zhe carrying a female kid in his arms. "What's wrong?"

He stopped by her and worriedly looked at the kid. "I saw her crawl out of their car and suddenly fainted"

Hou Wei Yan instantly ran towards his place and grab hold of the kid's wrist. Her face contorted. "She has no pulse"

She grabbed hold of the child and placed the kid on her back on the road. She placed her ear on the child's chest.

"She's not breathing" she added before kneeling next to her neck and shoulders.

Hou Wei Yan placed the heel of one of her hands over the center of the child's chest, between the nipples. She then proceeded and place her other hand on top of the first hand. Sweats began dripping down her forehead as she began compression. She pushed hard at a rate of 100 to 120 compression a minute.

When the kid showed no sign of movement, she proceeded and opened the child's airway using the head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver. With the airway open, she pinched the nostrils shut for mouth-to-mouth breathing and covered the child's mouth with hers, making a seal. She gave two rescue breaths to the child. The first rescue breath lasted for a second. She stopped and watched to see if the chest rises. When it didn't Hou Wei Yan gave a second breath.

"Come on, kiddo" she said as she made another round of compressions followed by another two rescue breaths. "Come on"

She watched carefully for any sign of movement and was appalled when there was none. After a second, she remembered the kit and ran towards it for the Automated External Defibrillator. When she saw it, she went back to the child. She used a pediatric pad and administered one shock.

"Kid" she called out but got no reply.

She then resumed CPR, starting with chest compressions, for two more minutes before administering a second shock. After administering the shock, the kid's chest heaved high and low before she opened her eyes in surprise.

Hou Wei Yan breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the kid alive. She sighed and looked at Ye Zhe. But then her eyes caught something from afar. She stood up in shock as Fang Tao and the other guards helped a woman out of a car, her stomach round and big, and her legs covered in both blood and water.
