37 For the Meantime

As soon as Fang Tao entered the car, Ji Li Zhao immediately took hold of his beloved wife. She was so red right now that his brows began to knit together in anger.

"Get every detail of those men and this bar" he said as he gently wrapped Hou Wei Yan in a blanket as the weather was getting colder. His heart ached as he watched how her breathing hitched at the uncomfortable feeling in her system.

He looked at Fang Tao who already had an apologetic look on his face and frowned. "Don't look at me like that, I feel no remorse towards you. You did your part of the job and even took hold of protecting her when it's my duty as her husband. This incident is not caused by your negligence, but by her classmates' evil intentions for which none of you can be blamed. However, remember not to let your guard down at anyone around her. I don't want anything to take advantage of her in any way"

Fang who had a dejected face on earlier felt a little bit relieved. He slowly nodded his head at his boss who was holding Hou Wei Yan in his arms so gently. "I understand, boss"

Ji Li Zhao immediately pulled Wei Yan closer to him. "Summon Doctor Mao to Li Wei Mansion. I can't be rest assured until I hear his diagnosis"

A simple nod was all Fang can give right now as he saw how much his boss' forehead continued to wrinkle in worry. He was about to close the door to give his boss the privacy and peace he needed when he was suddenly stopped by another order. "Take care of Xie Na in the meantime. If her brother finds out about her drunken state, she'll get punished for it. I can't allow my wife to go to trouble pulling her out of their mansion again"

Fang took a side glance at the car behind them where Xie Na was in and was clearly a bit confused. [ Punish? But isn't she already old enough to drink and even live alone? ]

His boss, of course, knows he was confused. "Wei Wei considers her a sister, so she's basically family. She's quite independent and outgoing but her brother is quite strict when it comes to drinking and only puts his trust in Wei Wei"

Xie Zhong is a very protective brother, especially when he was younger and single. He accumulated his muscles for his desire to protect his baby sister from men and up until now, he still held grudges for Yao He and detests her current boyfriend. He knows Xie Na is a troublemaker and is always going around looking for her man, but since he got married and is now a father he has much less time to keep a close watch on her unlike before when he can stick around like her guard.

The reason for his strictness is a little bit complicated as it came from a tragedy that befell their family. There are four Xie offsprings, and he was only the third child. Their eldest brother, Xie Zedong, is a dignified man who now takes full control of Xie Corp., and their older sister, Xie Manni, had long passed the world. She was his idol and had been with her since his toddler days, however, she was taken away from them.

It was supposed to be a happy day at their class reunion when she was forced to drink and got drunk. Her other drunken classmates had no idea that while they were partying, she was left alone on the corner. She had already lost her senses and died at the hands of filthy men who harassed, abused, raped, and killed her after getting the pleasure that they needed. Xie Zhong who was supposed to accompany her at that time felt his world shatter with the news of her death. He temporarily lost sanity and had to take psychological sessions to bring him back to normal. After that, the family lost their soul.

Xie Na's arrival to the world was a miracle to them, that's why she was pampered and had always been treasured by Xie Zhong as he felt it was his retribution. His negligence to Xie Manni caused her death which he always felt was his fault. So he wanted to do anything to protect his baby sister from suffering such a fate. He banned her from liquor...but somehow, Xie Na grew differently despite all their pampering.

She was wild and a bit chaotic. She enjoys adventures, and quarrels, and even wants to cause trouble all the time. Even though she was banned she still found ways to sneak a drink and the one who gets stuck to regulate and take care of her when she's drunk is none other than Hou Wei Yan. Somehow she had taken on the responsibility to take Xie Na out of their mansion by begging her family whenever she gets punished for her behavior.

Fang who only knows her basic information knew nothing of this, however, he felt that Xie Zhong was a great man for being strict with Xie Na when it comes to drinking. He thinks it's dangerous for a woman to get drunk especially in such public places. Unlike men, women can be easily targeted when someone feels the desire to do something evil and it gets much worse when they get drunk since they mostly lose the power to fight back. Even though they came from wealthy families, they can't be exempted from such rampant crime. If he was not there, both of them could have been placed in a really sticky and perilous situation.

"You know her address. She was red earlier, so her allergies must have acted up again. Give her the medicine, it's probably in her bag. Don't allow her to go to work tomorrow, Huang Xun will handle everything" he said and slowly closed the door before Fang could even refute or refuse her arrangements. Afterward, he ordered his driver to get a move on, leaving behind a confused wolf.

Somehow, he felt that he's been set up. He felt his boss was pushing him somewhere he shouldn't be.

However, it was an order and he really can't disobey a reasonable order such as this. The Xie Family can't find out, and coincidentally, most of his men today are married ones who had always been given not to take up a night shift for the sake of their family. He can only sigh as he walked toward the car and get inside.

He found her curled up like a furball and thus looked at Shin with a frown. The driver shook his head and smiled.

"It's your job to look after her" he said as he adjusted the mirror. When he saw Fang just casually sitting without a care, he slightly frowned. [ This man, seriously? ]

"The road might get a little bumpy. If the miss gets bumped, won't it be dangerous?"

Another sigh escaped from Fang as he glared at Shin. "You're talking too much today"

Shin didn't smile as he started the car's engine. "Just caring" he answered as he drove away. If it wasn't because his boss learned Hou Wei Yan liked these two together, he won't talk much and would just mind his business.

Fang looked at the young lady who looked as red as a tomato and felt bad for her position. She looked so uncomfortable today that he frowned just by watching her. Shin who was observing cannot help but sigh. He wants to push this block of ice towards Xie Na right now. It felt slightly off since Xie Na has a boyfriend, but he had never really seen Fang associate himself with a woman aside from Xie Na as Hou Wei Yan was obviously an exception, so he wanted this man to learn compassion.

When he saw a slightly bumpy road, Shin smirked and looked behind. Fang was still staring at Xie Na and was obviously contemplating whether it was wise to follow his suggestion. Without hesitation nor warning, he took that path. The car bounced slightly up and down causing Xie Na to nearly collide with the car door.

Fang's eyes widened in horror. What the---

"Damn it!" he said after he got Xie Na in his arms. His reflexes were agile enough to get her in his arms before anything could happen. Now she was wrapped in a blanket under his arms much like how Hou Wei Yan looked in Ji Li Zhao's embrace, only that they looked less loving.

He immediately glared at Shin after this. "Watch it!"

"My apologies. Is she okay?" he asked with a worried tone making Fang look at the woman in his arms once more. She looked so cute right now, and he felt embarrassed for thinking about such a description. The grip on his arms slightly tightened as the car shifted back to the cemented road. In his arms was a woman who fit perfectly in his embrace.

"The roads are no longer bumpy" Shin said all of a sudden causing Fang to look away. He slightly smiled at this as he coughed with Xie Na still in his arms.

"I don't trust you" he said and continued holding her.

The man can only laugh internally at how things turned out. He never expected the cold Fang Tao that they knew would react like this and had this quality of being slightly cute under such circumstances.
